This order really keeps the momentum of the album at a steady pace. going from navigating to next semester, keeping not only the genre but also because you can hear the ending of navigating at the beginning of the next semester music video. And then the ukulele outro going into the craving works so well. it feels so much more natural. definitely will be using this order next listen.
TRACKLIST: Overcompensate Vingette Routines in the Night Backslide Snap Back Lavish Midwest Indigo At the Risk of Feeling Dumb Navigating Next Semester The Craving (Jenna's version) Oldies Station Paladin Strait
a couple critiques: 1. i don't think backslide and snap back should be next to each other, they're too similar in theme 2. having all of the slower paced songs at the end kind of means the energy of the album fizzles out. I can definitely see what you're going for and I think definitely The Craving should be next to Oldie's Station, or another slower song because it is a little bit jarring in the middle between Vignette and Lavish. But personally I don't think putting most of the slow songs at the end is the solution both of those are personal taste though, and people may like the decisions you've made for the exact same reasons I dislike them. I do like that people are exploring different track orders
@subtogalactoons yeaah, I think that they realize too so I'm guessing it's has to be intentional. The way it is now Clancy it's a roller-coaster with energy episodes episodes relapses. Yk trying to breake the cicle
I did my own re-order of the track list trying to make it flow better while still keeping the general order of things and also getting rid of a few. Overcompensate (radio edit) Backslide Next semester Vignette Routines in the night Navigating Oldies station The craving (Jenna’s version) At the risk of feeling dumb Paladin strait
This is great!! I personally listen to it like this: (Gonna give an explanation for each one lol) 1. Overcompensate (Why wouldn't it be?) 2. Lavish (This continues that confidence that Clancy has in Overcompensate) 3. Midwest Indigo (Idk this just feels like it belongs in the front half as more "filler") 4. Routines In The Night (Same goes for this) 5. Navigating (After all that "filler", this is basically Clancy calling it out and getting into the real shit lol) 6. Next Semester (Idk they just belong together after rewatching the MV) 7. The Craving (Single Version cause I'm personally not a fan of Jenna's) (After everything, this is kinda like the calm before the storm) 8. Vignette (Now we begin the decline of Clancy's mental state 💖) 9. Backslide (Further leaning into that) 10. Snap Back (These literally belong together don't @ me) 11. At The Risk Of Feeling Dumb (This SHOULD NOT be the second to last song imo) 12. Oldies Station (This should've always been the second to last song) 13. Paladin Strait (Ofc it's always gonna be the closer lol)
i much prefer your one, putting The Craving after Next Semester solves the issue of The Craving being surrounded by faster songs in the official version, but doesn't lump all of the slow songs at the end like in this video. The only part I'd personally disagree with is I don't think Snap Back and Backslide should be next to each other. I like that in the official track list, the 'backslide' reference in Snap Back is more of a throwback, which wouldn't have the same effect if they were next to each other.
I think most of their albums are consistent, especially trench and sai, and their arrangements work really well sonically. clancy is just all over the place
Using the ukulele ending of Last Semester to lead into The Craving was a cool move, but I would personally replace Jenna's version with the single version
Next Semester needs to be second because it is a huge part of the themes and emotion of the album. It is a flashback to Tyler’s attempt and that dark place he was in, which then continues to haunt him throughout the album. Backslide, Routines in the Night, and Snap Back wouldn’t make as much sense without the context of Next Semester before them.
@@JonnyO514that’s what I’ve been thinking too. The entire way the album is set up Botha tells a story of how Tyler is and also how clancy is emotionally, with the songs lining up really well thematically with his final character arc.
@@paladinGay it’s equally as important though, as the story is a major part of the music. Plus, it really isn’t that much of a drastic change per song. Idk bro you just don’t seem to really understand the album entirely

I agree but it’s so hard to put it somewhere that makes sense, that’s the only one that sounded out of place when I listened. I was thinking after oldies station but oldies into paladin works to well

God everything about this tracklist outdoes the original by a lot. I always thought it was an odd choice to put the singles in order at the start of the album. And the actual order of clancy makes every vibe on it feel overdone after you get past a certain number of songs. This one makes each one feel knew and different after hearing the last one but its a smooth enough transition that it doesn't feel too jarring. Paladin and Overcompensate still work great in first and last place so I'm glad you kept them there. Now I'm starting to feel like the track listing is the thing thats felt missing for me on clancy.
Myself I like Snap Back Overcompensate Lavish Midwest Indigo Vignette Backslide Routines In The Night Navigating Next Semester At The Risk Of Feeling Dumb Paladin Strait The Craving (Jenna's Version) Oldies Station I feel like it tells a story that way
True, the only reason I placed it so low was so that it could help with the transition into rock since the second half of the song kinda takes on more of a rock sound
This was my biggest gripe with the album. The sequencing was completely off, nothing flowed together and it lost some of the 'epic-scale' the boys were going for. Rearranging the song like this fixes both of those issues.
@@sygil yeah, but you can also just loop the album as is and you get the same effect. And in the context of Clancy's story, Paladin Strait still makes no sense coming before the events of Overcompensate.

Oldie's station picks up though in the song. But you could say the same for paladin straight.
