- Florianópolis is the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, in the southern region of the country. The municipality is made up of the main island, the island of Santa Catarina, the mainland and some surrounding small islands. The city has a population of 500,973 inhabitants, according to estimates for 2019. It is the second most populous municipality in the state (after Joinville) and the 48th in Brazil. The metropolitan region has an estimated population of 1,209,818 inhabitants, the 21st largest in the country. The city is known for having a high quality of life, being the Brazilian capital with the highest score on the Human Development Index (HDI), calculated by the UNDP, of the United Nations.
Name of the city:
The city was originally called Nossa Senhora do Desterro. After the proclamation of the Republic in 1889, Santa Catarina resisted the new government. I wanted to be independent. But the federal troops would not let go and a civil war ensued. The federals' victory took place when Marshal Floriano Peixoto was President of the Republic. Thus, in 1894, Desterro's name was changed to Florianópolis, which means "city of Floriano", in honor of the then Brazilian president during the period of conflict.
Considered by many inhabitants and tourists who visit it as having a unique beauty, endowed with strong traces of the Azorean culture, observed in buildings, handicraft, folklore, cuisine and religious traditions, Florianópolis has in its diversified tourism one of its main sources of income. Among the tourist attractions at present, in addition to the beaches, the locations where the first communities of Azorean immigrants settled, such as Ribeirão da Ilha, Lagoa da Conceição, Santo Antônio de Lisboa and the historic center itself, stand out.
Praça XV de Novembro is the main meeting point of the city. It stands out for its architectural, cultural and behavioral values. This public place exists with remarkable relief since the foundation of Florianópolis, a time when the island was not even called Desterro. It all started through the founder, Francisco Dias Velho, who, at the highest point, established his house and, next to it, built his so-called "prayer house" (the current Metropolitan Cathedral). Added to its interior values, in this main point of the urban center, in addition to the beautiful and famous centenary fig tree, several monuments and hermas that revere events and figures of Santa Catarina and Brazilian history can be seen. Praça XV shows, in its surroundings, historic buildings that often served to host governments that dictated laws to the island and green belly people.

The best Centre in Brazil
Eu tô admirado, é grande, limpo, cosmopolita também, me transmitiu q as pessoas aceitam a diversidade. Ótimo lugar pra visitar, e quem mora acho q n sai.
Brazil is a dream country. Our Bangladesh is a very poor country. How beautiful are the streets of Brazil. Our roads in Bangladesh are in very bad condition. When I have money in my life, I will travel to Brazil.
Not all of Brazil is like that, the north and northeast of Brazil match the poverty of Bengladesh in some parts.
To be honest, it depends on the region of Brazil and there are many roads in bad conditions, too. There are few railways in the country and so very heavy cargo trucks destroy the roads quickly and it is necessary a lot of money to maintain roads in good condition in such a big country. Brazil had the biggest and longest slavery in the Americas during the Portuguese colonization and still there are very big social differences as historical heritage. In Bangladesh they probably show the best sides of Brazil, while in Europe and other countries in general they have the idea that Brazil has more poverty etc. than the reality because their media highlights more negative things. Videos are good to show unknown realities and different aspects of a country.

@@diegooliveira9746, sim, pois o Brazil teve a maior e mais longa escravidão nas Américas e a herança social permanece até hoje. A abolição ocorreu há 134 anos e historicamente é um curto período. É visível que os estados e cidades que tiveram maior escravidão têm mais disparidades. Além disso, o Brasil recebe constante imigração de pobres de países vizinhos e vários outros que entram por nossas enormes fronteiras, ou seja, tentar erradicar a pobreza no país será sempre como enxugar gelo. E quanto mais um país cresce e aparece, mais pobres chegam... Mas com certeza o nível geral de Pobreza em Bangladesh é maior por outros fatores, inclusive culturais e religiosos.

Mostrou só uma parte do centro da cidade antiga. Tem muito mais para se ver no centro de Floripa na parte mais moderna, além das suas praias, lagoas, restaurantes, vida noturna, baladas etc.

june to setemper it's the winter but in Florianopolis the climate is fickle , between these two months temperature goes 13° C to 21°c. And it isn't a cold city actually, Curitiba and Porto Alegre are way more cold .
On the coldest days it can reach 3 degrees Celsius with frost.

Belo Horizonte é uma capital que se comparada com Florianópolis o pessoal morre de vergonha, todas as ruas tem xixi e cocô, os prefeitos e o povo não colocam sanitário público e nem as lanchonetes tem mesmo vc consumindo no local, o povo tolera e a cidade é cracolândia por todo o lugar. Em Floripa muito diferente.....
Não adianta culpar os outros se o povão da cidade é porca....
Mano o centro de bh é mesmo bem sujo e tem muitos noia naqueles viadutos proximo a guaicurus e rodoviária.
Em contra partida tudo oq posso dizer é que o cabeamento é subterraneo e se ta fazendo muitos retrofits, abrindo lojas de livros, supermercados e muitas lojas estão colocando vidraças ao invés de gradões, fora alguns predios novos no centro tanto a moradia como comerciais.
Mas concordo com vc aquela regiao do centro que mencionei é exatamente oq voce falou

In the southern region of Brazil it is cold in winter, it can even snow in some regions, unlike the northern region where people do not know what cold is, winter in the north is rainy season.

@@chicagomike At southern Brazil, on peak winter, 25 to 50F is quite common (depends on the altitude of the location). This year the climate is unusual thought, with peak cold earlier during autumn, and a quite odd warm winter. But I believe this year have been strange all over the world.

The cities which had the most migration from the Azores, Portugal to Brazil during the 18th and 19th centuries were Florianópolis - Santa Catarina, Porto Alegre - Rio Grande do Sul, Santos - São Paulo, Curitiba - Paraná and Rio de Janeiro.

Eu sou de Florianópolis, pode parecer bonito, mas paralelamente, há partes horríveis nas estruturas da cidade
Pode se começar com as construções antigas, onde pessoas ruins costumam pichar ou consumir drogas lá como ponto de encontro ou dentro da construção, o que desvaloriza ela
Segundo, que há pessoas que podem ser muitos suspeitas as vezes, pode ser determinado pelo modo que falam ou agem, as vezes chega até ser perturbador que tem esse tipo de gente nas calçadões
A praça também as vezes há encontros de pessoas estranhas, que não costumam serem normais as vezes
Isso existe em literalmente em toda parte do mundo. A diferença é que em países turísticos eles não mostram as parte ruins, já no Brasil mostram mais as partes ruins do que as boas.

It used to be a good city in the past because of the country side aspect. Nowadays the city is full of people and due it's geography and stupid urbanization, the city suffers with traffic jams and the violence is reaching higher levels. The real state speculation is getting higher and higher, and there's no sense at all since the infrastructure here is very poor.
Still so much better than any other capital in this country. Violence/robbery never reached me here, more than 20 years, as when I lived in Rio Grande do Sul. The traffic jam it's really awful and in a lot of places is very expensive to rent or buy house, apt, etc.. But in general terms it's the best place in 🇧🇷 to live, work and to expend your holidays.
@@oltrepeccato I used to love here, after hating (because I'm from São Paulo). The hating part is because I came to her when I was 11 years old. In the school (public school) the teenagers here are very bully with people from SP or RS (I believe that they was bully with people from any state) back in the day. So I suffered and I made friends from other places than Florianópolis that time. As the time passed, I meet good people from here, actually my best friends and wife are from Florianópolis, so I started to love here. But mosto of my best friends moved from here because they are sick and tired of the craziness started to going on on this city. And probably, I'm the next one to move.
@@oltrepeccato As a whole, the island of Florianopolis is a very nice place to live (good weather, good commerce, safe in general, beautiful beaches, hills without slums, etc.). However, the traffic is a challenge, due to a strong opposition from environmentalists to create new avenues, including ferryboat services. A good feature of the city is when you leave the island to the continent. Plenty of very nice places to go, not far from the island.
