Excellent review. I enjoy a wide variety of scotch from the intense Islay peated to the mild to medium style such as Jura. As one who really enjoys the taste I find that have Jura 12 on the shelf is part of an enjoyable routine, especially at the price. I prefer this to the Glenmorangie 10, as it is more balanced with some unique flavors of chocolate and orange. it also pairs well with chocolate and fruit, cigars (medium bodied) and holds up well as a great sipping scotch.

Sounds like it would be a good warm up whisky before drinking the good stuff.

This was not unpleasant but not spectacular either. My previous single malt was Bowmore 12 which felt more premium to me.

Thanks for the review Eric. Richard Patterson aka the nose probably helped fine tune Jura and they're probably still making the whisky the nose preferred way. We get the 10-year-old in Pennsylvania for $44

Unfortunately Jura isn’t the only one that isn’t taking advantage of aging their whisky locally, just look at all the diageo distilleries aging their stock at Blackrange

As always outstanding information and intel about the whisky and the operation. Thanks for saving me the purchase price of a bottle, kept looking at it but with your brand reviews I'll continue to pass.

I just had another glass of this today. I don’t get any of those tasting notes…except for the ginger.
Overall I like it, it’s something different. Also in Canada (Ontario) it usually sells for around $75-80

My second bottle of S.M. was a Jura Origin 10 (pre rebranding series), it was not a bad one, but nothing remarkable either, as more bottles came in was almost forgotten, i bought it because was affordable, and also have a bottle of the Supertition still unopened. From the new core range I havent tried anything yet, the truth is a distillery that gives me not much expectation. Thanks for review and the data. Cheers Erik!! 🥃

Just tried the Jura 12 for the first time (am noob at whiskeys, have tried maybe like 10 or so, so far Fav was Bunnah. 12yo.).
My impression was that the nose is decently complex and sweet, bit winey-fruity (apricots & orange); but on taste it was just dry oaky (what I image licking an oak wood plank would taste) with a dry-smokey lingering aftertaste.
Idk. For me, not bad - I don't regret buying the halfsize bottle -, but I wish the taste and nose aligned more and that the taste wasn't so straightforward. Definitely did not feel like an island/islay scotch though.

It's $52.99 in Alabama. We have a literal ABC board that makes millions of dollars a year off of the alcohol business.

A staple all year round on the supermarket shelves. Non whisky regulars seem to enjoy it.

If I didn't know where Jura is, from the taste I'd say this is a Highland Whisky.

Why? Why? Why do so many Scotch distillers stick to 40%ABV when going up to 43, 47 would be sooo much better?

$40? Hell yeah. Is it better than the 10?

I've still never found a Jura I thought was good. Or was whisky. I honestly don't know how you screw this up so badly.
