  • Rarely do tourists make it as far as the Westfjords peninsula in Iceland. Only 10 percent of visitors to the country in the far northwest of Europe come to this remote region. Yet the landscape is simply magical: with huge waterfalls, lonely beaches and raw, wild nature. The Westfjords are one of Lonely Planet's top travel destinations for 2022. Iceland-based photographer and filmmaker ‪@IsleyReust‬ takes us on a tour!
    Which place in the video do you like best? The waterfall, the red beach or the cliff? Let us know in the comments!

    Have visited Iceland 6 times but my last visit I finally went to the Westfjords. All I can say is that it’s my favourite part of this wonderful country 🇮🇸❤️

    I just came back from ICELAND, the best place I've ever been to. Rented a camping van, drove around the ring road....god the best experience I've ever had. Couldn't do the Westfjords due to time availability but I will go back to visit this area for sure!

    It really is magical. Just came back sunday from a 6-day West-Fjords driving holiday solo. Basicly driving -> Sightseeing -> soaking in hotsprings -> sleep and eat out -> repeat. Not a single moment of boredom. You basicly have the road to yourself and going solo was the best decision for this trip. To decide when and what you are going to do whenever you want is amazing.

      do you need 4x4 to get into westfjords? do you have to go through froads?

    • @adriaan2886
      @adriaan2886 7 месяцев назад

      @@MM-di7ux the simple fact is, a 4x4 will give you more road options. But a regular wheel drive car is doable outside the cold seasons.
      I would recommend a 4x4, though. More options, safer and a more comfortable ride.

    This summer, our cruise ship also docked at the Westfjords in Ísafjörður in June. I've been looking forward to our jeep trip all along. And rightly so, the landscape is unique, magnificent and pure nature. I can understand Isley Reust very well. Look and be amazed. The film reflects very well the rough but very charming and versatile character of this landscape. In one day we experienced all weather conditions there, but that's what makes it so interesting. The Westfjords are very remote, but maybe that's their luck. They are still a real insider tip. Thanks for the video.

    As someone from the Westfjords, the weather is not as bad as the video portrays, it can get this bad but this happens maybe a few times a year so don´t let the weather intimidate you

    Iceland's Westfjords: a top travel destination for 2022, remote and magical 1421pm 18.6.22 it became the place to be after the fall discovered it for the hex enduction hour album... i am surmising the band went there? looks wonderful. looks like it's of specific interest. i wanted to go cycling there. but, allegedly, the car drivers (both off road and obligatory generic road users), are crazy people, insane people. humbled in iceland.

      I doubt that the band ever went outside the capital area in the south.

      @@berjalyng Iceland's Westfjords: a top travel destination for 2022, remote and magical 2103pm 10.7.22 i wouldnt know. i dont know any fall anecdotes. didn't i mention iwas discussing the fall... ? anyhow; i've had enough of that band's moniker... allegedly a mike clark dance special is featured on the BBC$ tv channel and the fall dont feature... so no people dressed as tins of beans and the like with hoes in their underwear are to be seen... p.s underpant bearing, beer belly slapping contests is a thing in iceland, isn't it? i see icelandic women drew against belgium 1 goal a-piece.. playing football? dunno... all the most interesting folk visit the place and it was probably far more interesting 30 years or so ago... one allus feels one will be killed if one ventures to iceland - it has an aura of gloom and doom.

    As a keen photographer I’d love to know what specific cloth you use to clean the spray and mist from your camera lens please, as I am going to be in Iceland soon please. Cheers, from Marg in Australia

      Hey Marg,
      I used chamois leather (sheep skin, worked really well since it can absorb a good amount of water) and Isley had a synthetic cloth. What I experienced while shooting at the waterfall is that it makes a huge difference wether you use a filter with special coating or not. My 240€ Vario-ND Filter was easy to clean whereas my 10€ Red filter on my analog cam never got properly clean and always had streaks. I guess the coating, using a Lens hood and the choice of the Lens (Tele lens and standing further away from the waterfall) play a far bigger role than the choice of your cloth! Have fun in Iceland!
      cheers,
