What people are forgetting too is Haaland plays different for City in comparison to how he played for Dortmund where he was constantly running in behind
A player like Isak can never put up Haaland's numbers, regardless of quality, simply because he doesn't have that single-minded focus on getting served in the box. He participates in the buildup, often leading it. As a consequence players next to Isak, like Gordon, scores a lot too. Haaland is focused on timing his runs while his team mates are creating chances. So they're two completely different players playing in the same position. Which makes a comparison tricky and kind meaningless, IMO.
It's a bit like the old Henry or Shearer debate in that Henry was the better footballer but you're picking Shearer regardless. Haaland is just out of form currently but he'll be back. You're not replacing 111 goals in 125 games for "he can dribble past players easier". If the old 4-4-2 was still in fashion they'd be great together up front
Haaland is an out & out goal scorer... the epitome of the 'give it to the big man up top' style of play. Isak, is a much better rounded centre-forward... he's as comfortable setting up other players as putting them away himself, able to cross & dribble the ball as typified by his assist for Jacob Murphy against Everton a couple of seasons back.
Im a Newcastle fan, but comparing the 2 of them isn't fair on either. Halaand is a goal machine, he doesn't do much else, you give him the ball and he will score. All strikers will habe ups and downs, hes not different. Isak is a different type, he get involed he offers intelligent passes and is involved in build up. The better striker depends on what your team actually needs. For arsenal i reckon a Haaland type would actually be better they have players that are brilliant at building up, they just need the finisher.
I think ppl are confused about the question. When it comes to having the ball at your feet in the box, Haaland is unstoppable. But that's not the question. It says an all round striker. Isak doesn't just score goals, he creates them too, plus he's got the left winger position in his locker. When's the last time Haaland got an assist? When does Haaland play on the wings? Haaland's a natural scorer, but Isak gets the prize for versatility
Haarland 86 appearances 79 goals 14 assists Isak 70 appearances 44 goals and 7 assists. Haarland has won more penalties got a better shot success percentage created more big chances and has been dispossessed less times than isak. Plus he’s been caught offside half the amount of times that Isak is. Facts don’t lie
@liberalslayer7220 you didn't listen to a word I said. I admitted Haaland is the best striker. Every fact you put up is correct as far as i know. So what exactly do you think I'm arguing with? As I said, Haaland scores better than anyone, but that's all he does. He can't take on other roles. Isak doesn't have that, but he does have versatility that Haaland lacks
@stevecooke2893 so supplying more assists and bigger chances created has won more penalties and is dispossessed less. The fact that Manchester City typically doesn't play to Haarlands strengths. By playing the early pass in behind the defence like he used to play in Germany.
@ I’m a little bit confused on the point about how much money has been invested into the two clubs. The fact that Newcastle has spent half a billion in transfers since Howe has been manager. Which is about the same amount as what Manchester City have spent but city’s also sold players to run at a profit so in terms of net spend Newcastle have spent more money. Howe has literally replaced the whole team in transfer deals
Halaand as a player is built for scoring goals. I defend Halaand a lot in other context. However, you're always underwhelmed when you watch him against the big clubs. He's mostly anonymous. If City and Newcastle play only against the Big 6 in the PL and you collect their goalscoring stats, I'd be close and I dare say Isak outscores him. More importantly though, Isak would come out man of the match in more games than Halaand would against bigger oppositions. That's simply because Isak has more in his locker when the goals don't come in a game. As a Chelsea fan, that's why I would always rate Hazard as the best player in the PL for the duration he played in the competition. In games against the big 6, Hazard's stats was even better than against sides lower. He'd be MOTM in those games year on year that it was ridiculous. He doesn't have to score or assist in games for everyone to rave about the performances. Isak has that over Halaand every week.
