Hey alex, loved the video and was wondering if your disaster save inbox is still open as i have an interesting napoleonic france scenario i wanted you to save 😅. Anyways, tootaloo
An idea when you know you are about to loose a lot of territory: queue up as many units as possible in training, and cancel them after you've lost the territory. This way you might be able to keep more, if not most, of your original manpower!
Correct. Especially if you were going to do that 30 Minutes of Hel strat where you only hold Warsaw and a few other tiles. It would soak up the manpower and then once you lose the states you should be able to cancel them and get it back. I never think to do this though.
Alex you’ve been keeping me going through a troubled year (2021) both for personal and public reasons so thank you for your videos! Have some great earned rest with the family and see you soon! Hope you’ve had a great festive season and Happy Nee Year! Let’s hope 2022 is the year for all of us to achieve what we want and feel fulfilled with our lives! And thank you once again! Toodaloo!

Is "a chill Polish game" a meme? Cause I seriously have no idea how Playing Poland will ever be chill (although the Novemeber Alliance is always a burden-lifter)
On non historical Germany and the Soviet Union frequently go to civil war, effectively crippling both your main rivals allowing for a relatively chill game
I played the polish lithuanian Commonwealth and pushed Germany out of Berlin.....and then Japan joined the axis and now im just trying to hold the territorry
I almost never comment in videos because I feel like they will never be seen but you, mr. Rambler have taught me so much about HOI over the years that I just have to. If it wasn’t for you I still wouldn’t know that supply was a thing in this game
My favourite disaster saves are ones where everything is already neatly organised, so you can spend your time in strategising rather than organising everything.
Truth, I did the titans clash 1945 start date mod before this dlc, If I didn’t have maintenance companies it would have gone worse. Context: I played the mod 100 times it felt like till I got a game where I stopped the Soviets 200 more till I stopped the Allies and 5 more till I could beat the allies. 1970
The thing about flying a lot of airplanes against a major power, if you are a low fuel country like Poland, is that flying a lot of airplanes will use up your fuel, and once all your fuel is used up, the enemy has 100% air superiority, since none of your airplanes are able to fly if you have completely run out of fuel, and your divisions will then suffer all sorts of penalties, including speed penalties. If you stretch out your fuel by flying fewer airplanes, almost any major power enemy that you have will still get more than 50% air superiority, due to producing more airplanes than you produce, and your divisions still suffer some set of airpower-induced penalties, including speed penalties. The solution for Poland would have been to have - well before the war - a division template with a towed anti-air battalion in addition to the towed anti-tank battalion. Whether or not fuel runs out for Poland's airplanes, a towed anti-air battalion will keep reducing those speed penalties and those combat penalties that will result from the Germans (or any other enemy major power) being able to use a large factory count in order to have more airplanes flying than Poland. The lesson from this video is that pre-war template design is important, once a defencive war starts. A good starting design for a 1938 time frame defencive division template against a major power has at least 5 infantry battalions (a little more than 5 is usually better), at least 1 towed anti-air battalion, at least 1 towed artillery battalion (more than 1 is usually better), and at least 1 towed anti-tank battalion. Here is a 4-brigade template that many mid-level minor countries can reasonably try for in 1938: Brigade 1 (infantry-only): 5 infantry battalions Brigade 1 provides all of the HP and about 60% of the Defence needed. Brigade 2 (artillery-only or mostly artillery): 3 towed artillery battalions Each towed artillery battalion in Brigade 2 provides about as much Soft Attack as 3 Infantry battalions, and at 1/6 the manpower cost, and does not pull down the division Piercing stat coming from Brigade 3 below like an additional 3 infantry battalions would. If you have a starting artillery template with 4 towed artillery battalions and both your industry and your supply structure can support having 4 artillery battalions, you might consider having 4 artillery battalions instead of just 3, in order to save the 5 Military Experience needed in order to make that 4th towed artillery battalion go away. Brigade 3 (mixed): 1 towed anti-air battalion 1 towed anti-tank battalion There is room here in this mixed brigade for adding an infantry battalion, or another towed anti-tank battalion, or another anti-air battalion, if battlefield experience indicates the need. Adding in a second towed anti-tank battalion will for example raise the Piercing stat by 10 or so more points, making it much harder for an enemy division to have an Armor stat that approximately matches your Piercing stat. Adding in a second anti-air battalion can almost double the number of enemy airplanes that you shoot down. In practice, adding in an infantry battalion will add about 20 to the Defence stat in 1938, and might or might not be needed, depending on geography and fort level. Brigade 4 (mixed) 1 infantry battalion (to eventually be replaced by a medium or heavy tank battalion) Adding an infantry battalion is the industrially least expensive way to add to the Defence stat, if you do not have enough research slots or industrial capacity or oil or Army Experience to add in a medium or heavy tank battalion. Of course, if you can get a medium or heavy tank battalion, the Armor stat from the tank battalion can protect from as much as 50% of the enemy attack value, meaning that the extra Defence might not be needed. If the extra Defence is still needed after eventually putting a tank battalion in Brigade 4, the infantry battalion can be moved to Brigade 3 or to Brigade 2 - at no Military Experience cost. Support companies: zero support companies (unless in a pre-existing template), since the factory expense and research expense and Military Experience expense for a minor country in 1938 is typically not worthwhile for adding in the lowly level 1 support companies available then. Of course, as support company technology reaches higher levels as the years go on, those 5 support company slots can eventually become really useful. Overall template characteristics for the above 1938 era template are: 1. Good Soft Attack per 100 manpower 2. Good Soft Attack per supply usage 3. Adequate division Defence stat. 4. Adequate anti-air attack per Combat Width 5. Adequate division Piercing stat 6. Reasonable industrial and manpower and Military Experience and research and resource costs in terms of what a mid-level minor power can afford in 1938. Of course, if you are in a much worse situation than Poland at game start by being a low-level minor power like Ethiopia and you are already being attacked at game start in 1936 by a major power like Italy, you build up your fort level in your capital - and on one or two adjacent tiles, you use your focus tree to add at least two civilian factories in order to speed up the fort building, you research towed anti-air and get enough of them in the field so that your divisions stop getting bombed to bits by swarms of Italian airplanes, and then you hope that you survive long enough to gradually work toward the above 4-brigade template. Ethiopia starts off with a 4-battalion template, with all 4 battalions being infantry battalions, so it will take a while if you are starting off with an Ethiopia to get to a true 4-brigade template that has a double digit number of battalions.
Dude, you need to qeue units in production before they take all that territory. Then once you loose it, you stop the training of new armies and then you have a ton of man power
Hey alex nice video i was. doing a soviet union game however it went to pot and i was wondering if you still had your disaster save box open so you could try to fix it i think it is still fixable i know if i play still ill get widdled down and lose anyways see you.
If I understand battle planning correctly that means actually using the battle plan to attack. That means the general (AI) chooses where to attack and with who. This launches a grand offensive that will likely cost a lot of manpower and equipment. You only should really do it if you're stupidly superior to your enemy or maybe you have beaten them so badly that they can't cover the Frontline anymore. It is typically better to micro to limit casualties and to try and take relevant things like victory points, supply hubs, airports, etc.
But look at those enemy losses! That must have hurt a lot! I bet if Germany lost 1.2 million men in just Poland, the morale and public support would be so low that the invasion will have to stop at some point and a white peace would’ve been signed. Atleast I would think so…
If you swapped out AT for AA production and stopped wasting factories on planes you don't have fuel for, and actually made use of the massive cavalry buffs, then I think you most definitely could've held Germany indefinitely. Producing AT in single-player is really pointless, the AI doesn't field many tank divisions and you can usually just get a division's defense high enough to stop their breakthrough. Still a fun watch, though.
Just a thought, but maybe try and let Germany take one province of what the Soviets are justifying on and that should remove the war justification (unless it was changed for no step back). Then just defend from Germany and hope the Soviets don't start justifying again I AM NOT THAT GOOD AT THE GAME MYSELF but I thought I might as well post my idea
