  • Two videos in one, really...first a small tribute to August Strindberg, and then one of a number of his paintings.
The quote that is seen over the baby in the cradle is from a letter Strindberg wrote to his daughter, Anne-Marie before she was born. The last painting in the video was made for her, it's called "The Child's First Cradle" (you can also see a photo of Anne-Marie as a little girl in the first video).
The ending of this video is the final scene from "Fanny och Alexander " (a film by Ingmar Bergman). As the boy lies down beside his grandmother, she read aloud the beginning to August Strindberg's "A Dream Play"
The two songs used are from the films "Princess Mononoke" and "Pan's Labyrinth". It may seem strange to use fairy tale (no matter how realistic they are!) music for Strindberg, but the video was made for a friend of mine who loves Strindberg, and just had his own baby girl. And I wanted this video to really be about imagination, a thing he understands like a child, so I think it's all right. Besides, Strindberg loved fairytales!
Except for the last, the paintings are in chronilogical order.

@HamsunsGhost , thank you so much for the tip! I'll watch that with relish! When I first made this video, youtube had NOTHING for Strindberg. I'm glad to see that changed. His work is amazing and I hear his name and work explored more and more.

apologies for his picture moving sooo fast. I do mean to one day make another video of just his paintings with a longer and perhaps more natural score, which I'll let the work each have it's own resonable amount of time to look at.

Check out some pieces from the Chamber Opera of Strindberg's "A Dream Play" by Swedish composer S.J.Pettersson .
Just search RUclips under his name. The music is really incredible and so fitting the dreamlike character of the play.
