- The war in Afghanistan has left many unhealed wounds in our memory. The stories of the "Afghans" reveal to us a lot of shocking details of that terrible decade, which not everyone wants to remember.
The personnel of the 40th Army, performing its international duty in Afghanistan, constantly lacked alcohol. The small amount of alcohol that was sent to the units rarely reached the addressees. Nevertheless, the soldiers were always drunk on holidays. There is an explanation for this. With a total shortage of alcohol, our military adapted to drive moonshine. Legally, the authorities forbade doing this, so in some parts there were their own specially protected moonshine brewing points. The extraction of sugar-containing raw materials has become a headache for homegrown moonshiners. Most often, captured sugar seized from the Mujahideen was used.
The lack of sugar was compensated by local honey, according to our military, which was "pieces of dirty yellow color." This product was different from the usual honey, having a "disgusting taste". Moonshine was even more unpleasant on its basis. However, there were no consequences. Veterans admitted that there were problems with personnel control during the Afghan War, cases of systematic drunkenness were often recorded..
