Tom Kenny is a member of SAG, but when the WGA tried to unionize Nickelodeon animation studios in 2000 - Stephen Hillenberg refused to sign up - denying his writers and storyboard artists better pay and health care - as did creative director Derek Drymon - He is no liberal icon - more like a classic union buster a la Walt Disney - to this day animation is not covered by the WGA - that is legacy as well
