"Kojak" and "The Jeffersons" and "Good Times" are just some of my fave theme songs (so many!) from mine. And yes, the "Taxi" theme is a classic one, too. I still tune in every now and then.
John Charles walters was not an actual person. It was a production company formed in 1978 by four former employees of MTM Enterprises: James L Brooks, David Davis, Stan Daniels, & Ed Weinberger. The company formed in 1978 & produced ‘Taxi.’
That last part with Mr Walters still makes me tired. I remember when I watched taxi back in the day, that part would come on at the end and I would turn off the tv and hit the sack myself.
This sooooo reminds me of my youth and good times in my life? I dont know why, but this theme does that... I was little to young to understand all the jokes, but I watched the show :)
This and Hill-street Blues the hippest theme-tunes.. Eb-Major. Bob-James and the Brecker Brothers ! Great post. Mike Post, lol. I love the 5-am Rhodes sound, the ultra-tite straight-'8's pocket, bongos, and the marauding evil bass.. The compressed sound that never doiminishes, never increases, just nags away. I LOVE It. Thanks * ps - having heard all versions available, this is the baddest; its the lumbering 8/8 feel helped by the ugly TV-edit-cuts.. so hip. That Rhodes is the baddest EP sound Iv ever heard with reverb and lite woodwind. The phrasing is so 'I don't care' it's for TV it's ultra-bad. The little EbM melody to start is beethoven, the Fminor licks are diatonic platinum, like magnificent seven meets jeff lorber. SO SO great. BTW, did MB play the flutes? Thanks a million
Does anyone know what street / boulevard the cab is driving down on the closing credits? I'm born and raised in New York, but i can't figure out where it is.
ClassicTVMan1981X 1983, when the shows went off the air, during season 5 as it says *MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE FIRST 5 SEASONS OF TAXI* this was to from the series finale.
It is indeed from "A Taxi Celebration" (it says so on the opening title at 0:12) ruclips.net/video/S3bn3EZIfqc/видео.html (the credits match up with this episode) The video here (by the original uploader) is missing Danny DeVito's introduction.
It's great to see this one posted! Sounds like Mr. Walters had a rough nite, LOL.
by far the sickest theme tune from my child hood.
I agree. Hill Street Blues is a close second

I'd be mad and grumpy too like Mr. Walters if I knew that Taxi was going off the air forever, lol!
Everytime I heard Taxi come on I knew it was time for bed,
I loved Taxi Rest In Peace Jeff Conaway and Andy Kaufman
Tony Danza is the one who drives the cab during the opening and closing sequences.
Idk
Oh that’s who thanks
What part of the city, exactly, was he driving in during the outro nighttime sequence?
@@doorswhofan That I don’t know.
😢😢 I miss these days an era
1979 Paramount Television logo (videotaped look) at end.
Yup 👍🏻, better than the 1990? 1995 or 2003 logos with the music retained over it.
Good night Mr Walters :)
Mmm.
jhcranmer LMFAO
@@AdamStJamesStJames Maybe Mr. Walters had a long day and just wants to go home?
Good dog
Mmm

Did somebody ever call Mr. Walters his taxi cab?
Even though it was a later season the show still had the 1979 Blue Mountain variant of the jingle or song.
It was still only 1983. That 70s Paramount production logo was still in use.
Guest stars Patrick buwell as Jay terry addie Margo as nurse Joy on taxi 1978
"It's 9 O'Clock. Do YOU know where your children are?"
Teeveepicksures I despise children
I wounder if Jim was Mr. Walters` driver lol

I'm born and raised in New York, but i can't figure out where it is.
I'd like to know that as well. It's nighttime, plus 1978, so it's hard to tell.
Did this opening and closing come from the series finale?
No, it is from the one-hour clip episode "A Taxi Celebration," which aired March 23, 1983.
ClassicTVMan1981X a couple months before I was born. I still remember hearing this music from my bedroom as my parents watched reruns of it.

never thought they'd make over the Queensborough Bridge.... grumpy guy is the best of the many dumb production company signoffs..
