When even Pat, the king of mind goblins and cynicism, can’t find a way to clown on a scene then you know they hit the mark. This ending is phenomenal and genuinely one of the best they’ve ever done imo
No clowning but cry laughing for me. On the one hand - a really touching and emotional moment, on the other hand - kids doxxing themselves to a random camera in a graveyard 💀.
The Daidoji realizing they can just conscript anyone they want out of the bodies Kiryu leaves behind is so funny. Like how many more guys have been kidnapped that we never saw
When a game made in only 6 months and originally meant as DLC to hold us over while waiting for Infinite Wealth has probably the most gut-wrenching emotional ending I've experienced in some time. Well, to say it exceeded my expectations is an understatement.
Listening to his speech in that context, you can almost imagine he really could have been just like Kiryu starting back then. But by the time he can get his shot, it’s way too late and there’s no time to learn the lessons Kiryu did about the world beyond Yakuza dreams.
He probably still could have become one had he beat Kiryu there, probably creating an outright war between cops and yakuza and become a more openly hostile crime syndicate like hell's angels or the aryan brotherhood. Like it would be awful for Japan as a whole but shishido definitely had the guts and strength to go through it and get some power
It is like my fourth time seeing that ending sequence and it destroys me every time without fail. The second Kiryu sees Haruka at his grave and reaches towards the tablet screen it's over for me. It's like THE best lead up to Yakuza 8, I can't stop thinking about that game now.
I honestly expected Majima to use it as an excuse to fight him a bunch again. "Oh you are Joryu, well I better make sure you are strong enough to be of help to us!"
I'm glad the folks working on the game gave Kiryu that moment to just let it all out. The extra detail of stuff like the snot dripping out of him. Stuff like toxic masculinity is still annoying to deal with. So I'm glad when stuff like this happens, its letting dudes know its okay to cry. Yes even if its a big ol ugly cry. Also holy shit Kiryu's voice actor did such a good job. Poor dudes been a part of Kiryu for a long time, so he was probably going thru the emotions too.
God, i know the meme with the erasing of his name. But yeah, Kiryu is just suffering. He cannot let it be known he's alive. His kids cannot know. And this was by his own choice to protect. It fucking hits so god damn hard.
3:51:06 tbf Pat, Haruto has his father in his life, you disappearing is not the same thing as Kiryu doing it, it's more grandpa disappearing. Yuta never bailed on his kid, he just straight up didn't know he was a dad until months after Haruto was born.
I'm pretty sure Pat meant it more like "it's upsetting to me imagining a scenario where I have to abandon my baby for years", not "it's upsetting that Haruto is growing up without a dad."
even if you only partially understand the context like I do it doesnt matter: This man is ugly crying because he hasnt seen his kids in ages and misses them
@@Kaarl_Mills It's more than that though; it's knowing that they were doing well for themselves, and that they remembered him fondly despite his absence. If I had a family, that would be my biggest worry re dying - would they be okay without me? If you're not religious, you have to accept that there's no way to KNOW that in advance. Kiryu was given a hard confirmation that very few of us can be certain to have, and he knows it.
Love how tsuruno became much more personable and comedic, nishitani and shishido are also great villains I find, assholes who just got told their assholery is no longer profitable for the higher up so they sack them
Gotta say though, Shishido stabbing Nishitani with a toy knife is actually more plausible than the high-powered rubber bullets from the Ueno Seiwa assassination.
Of course it is. All the parrots in the chat during the stream screaming RUBBER KNIFE have no clue, since the person shooting the rubber bullets himself didn't realize he was not killing anybody. That's why it's stupid, that no one realized. In this case only Kiryu was supposed to be fooled, who saw nothing but the back of Shishido.
So what stopped Shishido from just... starting his own gang? If he's on Kiryu level then he really can just muscle his way into gathering a bunch of dudes and starting something up. (Other than him being CIA-ed)
Lacks money and lacks the shame that come from just creating his own clan without avenging the first one there and now. It'll be like asking Kiryu to just find new orphans
30:00 Huh. Hey Pat, as someone who was raised to believe in the importance and power of forgiveness, and who genuinely still retains that belief in their adult life? I completely agree with you. This weird concept of forgiveness that people in your life have apparently bought into, I don't believe in it either. Forgiveness as I taught to understand it is something that is *inherently, by nature* undeserved, like it is literally impossible for someone to deserve forgiveness.
Maybe it’s recency bias but I really feel like Shishido is my favorite fight in the series, I love the story of it and Kiryu’s struggle really sells it
Specifically when the dude was talking to Kiryu about Taichi. When I played Kiryu says something along the lines of "that doesn't make me feel any better" and now there's the "falling on deaf ears" line instead. Am I going crazy?
@@limppickle4306 Yeah mine was like yours. I believe the game has an alternate set of subtitles to match the Japanese dialogue instead of the localized script. They've had that option since Judgement.
@@Axonn1018 usually you get the English subs for the Japanese dub, and the subs for the English dub. The English dub isn't even in the game yet. That's coming later. So I don't think those subs are even an option at this point.
I know there's a lot of good payoff to the big emotional climax and all that, but what kind of Clownshoes organization is the Daidoji that they gave one of their assets a burned identity he already used before?
So, I just played 0, watched a summary of 1-6, played 7 and Gaiden so I think I’m kind of in the dark about something; even after the dissolution of the Yakuza, why is Kiryu still being forced to keep up his whole being dead thing? Is it just because Kiryu said he would? These Daidoji pricks just seem like legal Yakuza to me, I hope Kiryu gets away from them in 8. If anyone bothers answering this, please don’t tell me if he does or not.

Of course Taichi is a firefighter. The most active and idealistic of all the kids, he became the hero he always saw in his Uncle Kaz.
You’re gonna make me cry about this again!!!
Taichi became far more noble than any Yakuza legend. Even the like of Kuze, Mine, Ryuji, etc.
HEY, your guides helped me out so much!
Shishido is such a dope villain. I could've easily seen him being a boss in one of the older games. Dude was a true Yakuza.
Genuinely one of the best like a dragon stories and the hardest I've ever bawled because of it

If Shishido had been born 20-30 years earlier, he absolutely could've clawed his way to the top to become a Yakuza legend.

*Emerald Lion of the Omi Alliance*
