Well clearly you first need the correct forbidden foul knowledge, not to mention the stars being right, and then there's those weird esoteric artifacts needed to pull it off, tch, amateurs.....
I mean no insult to the other narrators on youtube but I've gotten bored with so many of them. This channel on the other hand has never once been boring or tedious. Your readings are always very well done and you either pick or write exceptional stories that never let me down. I feel as though I should have a nice bottle of wine and an assortment of fine meats and cheeses to enjoy with these stories. And thank you for introducing me to the writing of Lovecraft and of course the others who have joined in on his wide world of weird. I particularly loved the black stone and out of the aeons. Damn those are perfectly creepy stories.
Ohh, I think this is my favourite of the Van Melsen series so far. Ellen and Van Melsen make a great paranormal investigator duo and I'd love to see more of them.
Don't know if you will see this Ian, but I think you're my favorite author, and Peter van Melsen is probably one of my favorite characters. I also really enjoy how York is becoming the equivalent of Arkham. Lots of history stacked on top of each other, and the architecture is quite literally doing that too. Got a 13th century butcher street there (the Shambles), Roman ruins buried underneath the cathedral (York also the home of Constantine the Great), rare Anglo Saxon stone wall additions, became a city ruled by Vikings (Jorvik), followed by Normans and their architecture, later 15th century fortifications all stacked on top of Roman fortifications. Literally have stories of a bagpiper being executed, somebody given the blood eagle by Vikings, and people left to die in their homes from the bubonic plague in that city. If you're in York, also check out the stories behind the artwork and stained glass windows there. There are speculation that monkeys were in York as well. It's a great setting for a parallel to Rats in the Walls where Lovecraft mentioned multiple historical architecture. Anyways, I know I'm rambling, but I would love to know what part of York Ellen is excavating. Who knows if Bronze Age Britons were worshipping the Old Ones in the deep depths of York, and underneath all the Roman ruins are forgotten Cyclopian Architecture. Hahaha
Van Melson has become a favorite and always want more. Now Ellen has returned with now knowing she is a BioArchaeologist has touched my own youth as an archaeologist in my college days. Looking forward to more Ellen (Jennifer) in future. Well done and Blessed Be from Tennessee. Side Note: I was smoking my pipe with a mixture called The Haunting by Cornell&Deihl. They have a line of tobacco called The Old Ones which has several mixtures that pay homage to Lovecraft.
@Jeff Ashley Wow that's awesome. Who carries the "Old Ones" tobacco line if you don't mind me asking. I'd be willing to try them just based on the name alone. Very creative marketing.
As someone who used to work as a Viking in York, I found this most entertaining and immediately thought of the Punchbowl and Barley Hall on Stonegate. 😁
I'm Scottish but have always loved York and been fascinated with the history of 35 Stonegate (so imagine my delight in discovering this story). A few years ago when the property was still a tourist attraction instead of an Oliver Bonas store, my husband took a photo of my reflection in the cheval glass which (still) stands in the wainscotted room. When he showed it to me, all that could be seen in the glass were streaks of mist (like ectoplasm). No sign of my reflection. Thinking it weird, he took another photo which turned out normal. At the end of our tour we repaired to a nearby hostelry (actually the Punch Bowl - one of my favourites) to have a drink and look at all the photos we'd taken in the house. The one of the mist in the mirror had disappeared.
Great story and narration, Ian. There is something amazing about hearing British English voices narrate stories set in England. I love your channel and you are amongst my favorite narrators on RUclips. This channel is awesome.
As said in a few comments... RUclips narrators, especially weird tales and horror channels tend to start feeling.. redundant rapidly. You have quite a timeless, and very fitting voice, intonation, cadence etc etc, to be honest.. I couldn't put my finger on why this channel is the one I always come back to for 2am (or 3:30 this time) stories. Very classic feel, I genuinely get the same cozy feeling I'd have had as a young teen, tucked up and reading horror shorts. Anyway basically, love this channel
For the past ?? number of years i had been under the sad delusion that the only Name in horror was dead and that there was no one who could make magic with His Love-Craft ever again. Thank you, HorrorBabble for proving me deliciously wrong. Do me a favor and never die. Thank you.
Wow, Mr. Ian, you outdid yourself. The story was amazing, it grabbed from beginning to end. Amazing tale with all the elements of mystery, adventure, and the anxiety of some impending doom. Well narrated, it felt like I was there in those obscure tunnels. I am lucky to have the opportunity, and the means, to listen to your Channel. Superb job guys. Onward!
“Most, I believe, are in Arabic; and the fiend-inspired book which brought on the end-the book which he carried in his pocket out of the world-was written in characters whose like I never saw elsewhere. Warren would never tell me just what was in that book. “ Keep up the Van Melsen and stay safe.
Very happy to see BOTH Peter and Ellen again! I knew from the get go we will see her again.. too much potential to throw her away.. I'm gonna enjoy this!
I've greatly enjoyed your renditions of the classics of eerie and cosmic horror, but I can't tell you how delighted I am when you present us with your original fiction. It's wonderful and spooky! Thank you so much for sharing it with us all.
Omg i love peter stories hes the exact kind of investigator i adore powerless in the face of the cosmic but with that unrelenting human urge to understand control and protect he gives me big bloodborne hunter vibes
I love Peters adventures, even if they are not as scary as other stories they are really fun. The van melsen series all have that real adventure vibe. Please more!
Your Van Melsen series is some of the best Ive seen, I've grown rather fond of him and his adventures myself, I always look forward to them and save them for nights I have quiet and atmosphere to do them justice. It's close, but this might be my favorite yet, and I'm only half way through...
My mouse nearly burst into flame from clicking to fast, the moment I saw a new van Melsen story! EDIT: having now listened, I'm very happy to see that Peter has gained a sidekick (and heir apparent?) in the redoubtable Ellen!
I think that the artifact is the same with the one which killed a student in the US (Blake or something like that) and was thrown to a river. York was protected with walls from outside. But what about the threat from below? Great job Ian!
A good story, you have a marvelous way with writing and narration (The GB? accent helps alot), but ultimately I see the character, in this particular story, as a common thief.

Ah, Warren…when will you surprise us by NOT being dead?
Fool
Check their reading of the actual Warren story, the intro will pleasantly suprise you!
Well clearly you first need the correct forbidden foul knowledge, not to mention the stars being right, and then there's those weird esoteric artifacts needed to pull it off, tch, amateurs.....
Its a great song by The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets
You fool Warren must be dead or the story cannot commence accordingly then what will we do whos name rhymes with dead.come on speak up
I kept waiting for the Doctor to appear.
Peter van Melsen has a disturbing ability to linger in my mind the days after a story. Sometimes I swear I see him out of the corner of my eyes.
I am so grateful Mr Gordon is not only keeping The Mythos alive but even expanding upon.
Please keep up the excellent work.

A lot of food for thought there! Thanks for listening and for sharing some interesting facts. :) Ian
“Cooks Books!” 😹 Yeah, I know some accountants. Guess I’m the only one who found that nice little clever injection.
I really can't get enough of Van Melsen. Thank you for this.
Always great to have my favorite narrator narrate some original work. These Van Melsen stories are peak mythos.

Van Melson is Peter Cushing.
I think these tales are excellent.
Thank you.
And here we go ladies and gentlemen, The often imitated but never duplicated Ian! Bravo mate another classic in the making.

Excellent story. Thanks for all the work you put in your fantastic writing and narration.
Finally my favorite paranormal investigator returns!
the art is exactly right...the story another great example of Ian's homage. Thanks!
The mystery deepens, I personally will be eagerly awaiting the next entry in the Van Melsen saga.

So Van Melsen finally managed to make off with Cthulhu's stash of pure Cobalt-60. Well done!

This is one of the best voices I ever heard.
I'm loving the adventures of Peter, looking forwards to more!
Thanks again, John! He'll be back very soon...

I can't wait for a story feat. Warren.
Very happy to see BOTH Peter and Ellen again! I knew from the get go we will see her again.. too much potential to throw her away.. I'm gonna enjoy this!
Yay, another Peter Van Melson story! These and the Carnacki series are my faves. 🖤 These are so good!
IN LOVE with Van Melsen's investigations... Just outstanding.
I LOVE this narrator... great voice and professionalism
Not bad at all, these are getting better as you go.
So Peter Van Melsen is both a paranormal investigator and an investigator of the paranormal.
You talent in both writing and narrating a story is so impressive. Amazing story ❤✌
Absolutely a treat! Thank you so much. Can't wait for the next one. 😃
A fantastic piece, and a lovely bit of intrigue! Pleased to see the return of Ellen, also. Keep up the great work!
Absolutely outstanding video thanks Ian 😊👏
I think of having a Cthulhu story to listen to over a herbal tea, and lo it is so.
Superb! Can't wait for more of Van Melsen's extraordinary adventures!

A modern classic!
This is great! I look forward to the continuing saga.
My boy Gordon is real wickid story teller! 👊😎
The Warren bit gets me every time. "Leg it!"
I was wondering when Peter Van Melsen would show his lovely face again. Excellent work my friend.
Van Melsen deserves a place within upcoming Mythos anthologies.
Brilliant. Excellent work, Ian. I really enjoy this series.
This one screams for a sequel!
I find it noteworthy that the object on the altar is never described.
Lovely story! Reminds me of an old all-time favorite, “The Titan in the Crypt” by J.G. Warner.
This was fantastic it feels like a prequel to a even greater adventure
A good story, you have a marvelous way with writing and narration (The GB? accent helps alot), but ultimately I see the character, in this particular story, as a common thief.
Peter Van Melsen is the best!
Hey Mr gordan your stories are awesome 😎😎
EXCELLENT STORY!!!
Wow the first sentence sounded like The Emperor Palpatine from Starwars.
That was dope, i like it
Loving Van Melsen! Thanks for this!
Ohhhh nice!!! Hope you are all well! X
The Peter and Ellen stories are my absolute favorites
They'll be reunited again in the new year! :)
