What is Australia Day today is so much different than in the past. Australia is a young country, and what makes it up today is different cultures from all around the world married with the natives and the land to become what it is today: a sophisticated modern society. While it celebrates what it makes each individual an Australian, most will just enjoy it as a public holiday.

You HAVE to watch Un-Australian ad it's an ad to eat lamb that comes this time every year and is different every year for celebration for Australia Day. This year is a cracker of an ad. 😜 But all the eat lamb ads are great. 👍

You opened a “can of worms”. It’s difficult to express an opinion without being “labelled something or other”. Pretty well handled, mate😊.
Personally, I wasn’t alive 200+ years ago. It was very different times, and people can argue “back and forth” about it. What I will say, is this. It’s much easier to “divide rather than to unite”. It’s been a constant in human history since the dawn of time.

Captain Cook, and most naval officers were expert mathematcians, especially for navigation. Doing a sun or star observation for latitude and longitude is a three or pages of calculation that would challenge many. They were ASTRONAUTS OF THIER DAY.

Love how it’s narrated but a Brit or someone that was taught English from a Brit. We call it invasion day. Because it was to us. Which is why we want it changed. Having the Australian (British) flag paraded out of car windows, outside of houses, etc, is not recognising the First Nations people. I think a better day can be chosen

What they didn’t mention is that it has only been celebrated since 1935 and that inaugural Australia Day has its own shameful history that many Australians are unaware of.

Yeah we’re pretty split down the middle here too. Unfortunately some of the issues of contention are “borrowed” from America and imported by politicians for purposes of political traction and leverage. Nonetheless your mate Brad has chosen a good balanced video for us to see.

G'day Squirrel, before it was known as Australia Day it was known as Empire Day, as time changed so did the name and one day the current name may change, but the history will never change nor should it only attitudes mature as time goes on as with time no one will be around who live those bad time.

I love Australia Day it’s my favourite day of the year! Because I get to celebrate being born in this amazing country that I Iove so..my grand children are 8th generation Australians on my side, my ancestors came out as convicts and on mine Hubby side we have First Nation ancestry as well as English ancestors, my children’s great grand father was Aboriginal it is hard to fine records of his parents etc as they didn’t keep any back then well none that we can find. I truly believe we can’t move forward if people are still living in the pass we can’t change what happen we weren’t here all we can do it is pay our respects to the First Nation people and acknowledge what happen to them when white man came. We aren’t proud of what our ancestors did to our First Nation people we are disgusted in what they did but we all live here now so it’s time be as one. This country has a very spiritual essence about it from it’s beaches to the bush through to the outback, there is no other place like it on earth . The stories it tells, which our beautiful First Nations people have kept and share with us while there has been a lot of their languages lost and sadly they will never be able to recover them what has been saved is amazing the fact that kids these day are learning about things that we never did is a credit to those who have kept up the legacy of our First Nation people going.😊🇦🇺🇦🇺👍

I lot of people think we should also celebrate Australia on our "independence" day. The problem with that is that it is January 1st. Another lot of people say you can't change the date because it's always been Jan 26. The problem with that is it hasn't. Without looking at Wikipedia, I think Australia Day was celebrated on completely different dates in the early 20th century (maybe April and July) and it only became a national holiday quite recently (around the 80's I think.) So yes definitely a can of worms.

Just like what Jamus said it now means something different to different people I'm from the 60's so I understand what they are trying to make it about but I wasn't around 200+ years ago so why blame me for something that happened back then how ever it was back then it was going to happen the Brittish or Spain or whoever Australia is what it is today and I cannot change the past nor can anyone else

I think to most Aussies first and foremost January 26th is a day off . Most are happy not having to go to work. We're not hand on heart patriotic, we're BBQ in the sunshine patriotic.

  • @micko11154

There was no country officially known as Australia until first of January 1901. So Australia Day should be on 1st of January. 26th Jan is as pointed out, the arrival of the First Fleet in what they named Sydney Cove. It wasn't even established as the colony of New South Wales at the time, let alone the country or continent of 'Australia'.
So I think calling 26th of Jan Australia Day is a misnomer, even if you discount the First Nations Peoples viewpoint. 26th of January is not the date Australia was founded.
    Just my 5c worth.
    Cheers and thanks as ever!

yes some Aborigines not all, (a minority group who has other agendures) hate the white Australians, until it comes to putting their hands out and how much money they can make from it, who refuse to unite, where the majority off Australian's, Aboriginal and multi culural want to unite, respect and welcome our indigenous pass with open arms and move forward as one nation

It's all subjective to your beliefs as a individual person
The majority celebrate the the day more than 20 million of atleast 26 million
These are approximate numbers could be higher on both
Yep the same 💩 is happening here we never had it before as we believed we where one country but theirs alway agitators tp force a wedge where they can for their own financial benefit
It even split between the indigenous people themselves even the imagrants from other countries have embraced it and their not stopped from celebrating their own culture's
Most Australians embrace their culture's like chinse new year greeks Italians they celebrate their culture's and most Aussie's will celebrate with them its how we learnt to except each other over the generations and alot of their food became daily items
So im sure if the indigenous people had a day they celebrate lots of Aussie's would love to learn their culture's
But if they want to make it inclusive you can't blame the public because they feel isolated and not part of the country
Because most Aussie's love to learn and see everyone who live here as Australians regardless where their from
As for the past we connot change what our ancestors had done it was a different time and different beliefs all we can do is change that belief which most have to say our ancestors slaughter them isn't correct because im sure the ancient indigenous people did the same as our ancestors killing each other to survive at that time as they where two unknlw identity's at that time would've been the first time theyd seen indigenous people and like wise the first time the indigenous seen white people and alot of indigenous people died from disease because they didnt have amune systems that could fight off that came from them landing
Also, their where many different indigenous tribes here who never got along and killed each other tribes so to blame just our ancestors and holding the people born and breed here for many multiple generations isnt fare either especially as most don't treat them any different to,anyone else in actual fact most have grown up with them through schooling
Again i say subjective to the particular individuals views and beliefs
But thats what makes a free, society for all who live here and enjoy you have you option and i have mine but we learnt to live with them and together its why we have a voting system and everyone has to vote because the majority rules on the country's future
I hate the government we have now but the majority selected them and i just have to suck it up even if i dont agree otherwise youll have anarchy and a repeat of history sorry for lenght 🦘🇦🇺👍
