Once again, Eric, thank you for excellent advice.
My car with the CU is paid off and I have the title, but I have other loans there. Your advice is telling me should be prepared, and I am working on it.

Hi Eric I just sold my car to pay my State Taxes. Yes. I have a credit union and they said they would absolutely freeze my account if the State ordered it. I called the state numerous times and informed them what you always tell us the law is but they said they were going to freeze my account nonetheless. I had no protection from my credit union and couldn't afford to not pay my rent so I sold my car and paid the state taxes. Now I don't have a car.

I am sorry. The person you spoke with at the Credit Union didn't understand the law and I doubt you may have even spoken with the responsible party at the CU that deals with garnishments. A local branch person would unlikely know this law. And in regards to the person collecting for the state- again that person was a tax collector and I can guarantee they are not educated on the law. Doesn't matter in regards to the state it is the responsibility of the bank or credit union to protect the money. The state can garnish till the cows come home but the income is protected in the bank account under the law by your bank or credit union. The world is full of too many people that answer questions when they don't know the answers. You spoke to two of them. Eric HELP:S

Thanks Eric for your reply. I don't understand how agents can work for the State and not know State law. Same goes for the bank employees. I think they should know the law and was surprised that they didn't.

Yes,probably they cannot be sued by garnishing the protected funds, but aren’t they breaking a federal law by doing so?

This service is not free. These videos are ads for the law practice. I called and talked to a woman there. She seemed kind of negative. Nothing like this guy. I couldn't find out what they charge to send a letter to a creditor telling them that they can't garnish your social security. They do charge. I get a feeling they charge a reasonable amount to send a letter. I was put off by the woman I spoke to. You won't call and get to talk to this gentleman. Helps wants you to pay a monthly fee to be a member before they will help you. It's like any law practice that charges a monthly fee to use them for legal advice.

HELPS is a charitable 501c law firm. Around one-quarter of our clients receive our assistance at no charge. You had a specific question about one particular matter which I believe we addressed.

I was sued and because I didn’t show up for the hearing, a judgement was entered against me. The judgement did not say that a garnishment was entered against me. Can a garnishment still be entered against me? I have a credit union account.

A judgment is necessary in order for a garnishment to be issued against someone's bank account. However as the video explains and others on this channel twice the monthly amount of federal deposits such as SS is automatically protected by federal banking rules regardless of the actual source of funds in the account at the time of a garnishment.
