I've heard it dozens of times and my eyes get misty every time. I actually counted the stones as indicated and the total is 119,244 not counting Arlington Cemetary. You may notice that with the exception of North Africa, Philipines, and Hawaii, almost all the graves cover areas of Europe. And a few VERY important quotes from smart people. At a time when politicians seem to apologize for our country's prior actions, here's a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our country. JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Mr Rusk respnded "Does that include those who are buried here?" You could have heard a pin drop. When in England at a fairly large conference Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by America? General Powell answered by saying "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyound our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." You could have heard a pin drop. The was a conference in France Where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt America has done? They have sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them? A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people: they are nucleared powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities: they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousands gallons of fresh water per day and they carry half a dozen choppers to transport the injured to and from their fklight deck. We have eleven such ships, how many does France have? You could have heard a pin drop. To continue........Lastly I should say that you might think of emigratng to the US.

John Williams is, in my opinion, the best symphonic composer of his generation. And since he's in his 80s now - it is fair to say of this past 100 years. This video is an excellent one on it's own merit, combine it with his music, and it totally sets the mood for Memorial Day. We all must remember that Freedom is not free, and must be paid for and protected continuously.
I recently buried my daddy (Vietnam) at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home/Johnson City Tn. My great grandfather (WW2) is also buried there. It's one the most beautiful places I've seen. I spend a lot of time there and have some amazing photographs... thank you for another excellent reaction.

We went to Luxemburg when we stationed in Germany 1978,it was to see Gen Pattons grave,it was truly hallowed ground. We just stood and cried. The American cemetery was kept immaculate. Went a mile down the road and the German cemetery was terribble, they were dumped in a tomb.It was sad.
Americans have been subjugating people for decades ruining the lives of working class people....invading other people's countries....you must be so proud eh? yours sincerely, a former British Royal marine Commando who fought in two illegal US profit wars - Iraq and Afghanistan
Sir, four of the cemeteries mentioned (Aisne-Marne, Meuse-Argonne, Oise-Aisne and St. Mihiel) are from the First World War. Two WWI cemeteries not listed are 'Flanders Field, 368 (Belgium), and the 'Somme', 1844 (France). If I remember correctly General Pershing was the first Commissioner of the 'American Battlefield Monuments Commission' (ABMC) which was established in the early 1920s. It cares for 26 overseas American Military Cemeteries with approximately 150,000 interred.
I’ve been to a few of those cemeteries in France, Belgium and D.C. Travel, if you can. There’s beauty beyond our front door and it helps us appreciate the diversity God created. It’s good to be unique!
I've watched the War Cemeteries many times and it always gets to me every time. I was very moved at the reaction of Scotsman to this video, especially regarding his age. John Williams's music is so fitting and emotional. It is overwhelming. I'm glad that other people feel the same.
Watching videos like this always humbles me. Whenever someone thanks me for my service. I get embarrassed because there are guys that paid a much much steeper price then I EVER did. I've heard it called "survivor's guilt."
Thank you Sir, for your love and respect to our U.S. soldiers, airmen and marines! I really appreciate you reacting to these videos, with such honest and raw emotion. I have a feeling that you were a member of the military in Scotland. If, so, as any ally country, and former U.S. Marine, thank you for your service!

My grandpa was a purple heart recipient in ww2. He never spoke of the horrors he saw but worked hard with the DAV making sure disabled soldiers got the help they needed.
my great grandfather was one of the soldiers who fought in the war. he survived and is now passed on with his fellow comrades and while he was alive he'd visit their graves and tell his kids "that one there is Smitty" or "and here's John" its extremely emotional to know that he survived while his friends didn't. he also never considered himself brave for what he did, he would always tell my grandfather "i'm not the brave one, those who walked away aren't the brave ones. the braves ones are the ones six feet under, when you look at these graves, then your seeing the brave ones" and the first time my grandfather told me that i was so moved i think i cried. i am proud of my Great grandfather and honoured to be his offspring. my dream is to one day write a piece in honour of him and all the brave ones that perished so that i too can express my unending gratitude and respect towards them
That was incredible. Seeing so many monuments and graves in so many countries really hits home the amazing amount of soldiers, of all nations, that have fought for peace and protection. Then to see the tomb of the unknown and realize how many must have also never been found just brings me to tears. May the Lord watch over those who watch over us.

John Williams is an EPIC composer. He’s composed the music to such blockbusters as; Star Wars, Jaws, all the Home Alone’s, as well as the Jurassic Park movies. He’s won 25 Grammy Awards, 7 British Academy Film Awards, 5 Academy Awards, and 4 Golden Globe Awards. With 52 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. So basically, if a movies has an amazing soundtrack....John Williams probably composed it. Sorry this is so long, but, having majored in music in college, I’m a big fan. I even studied some of his work for a paper. 😄 So glad you don’t just stick to one type of video to react to. 👌🏼
My dad passed away in 2014 from cancer and served in the military during Vietnam. He was in the Air Force and flew reconnaissance missions out of Thailand, over Vietnam. He’s buried at a national cemetery that is only about 15 minutes from our home. We’re very lucky to have one so close to us. National cemeteries are the most beautiful, well taken care of, respectful place I’ve ever been to and I’ll be there again this coming Memorial Day weekend. Thank you so much for showing this and for your respect for our country.
While you may not recognize John Williams' name, Don, you've almost certainly heard his music. He composed the theme music for "Star Wars," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," the "Harry Potter" movies, and many, many more. Here's a biography: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams

John Williams wrote this song for the movie, Saving Private Ryan. He wrote the theme to Jaws and Star Wars and dozens of other films as well. He collaborated with Steven Spielberg on most of his movies.
I love your Scottish cow pillow!❤️ the memorial in Pearl Harbor is directly over the USS Arizona which took a direct hit straight down into where bombs were stashed! My mother’s boyfriend went down with the ship! The song is giving me chills! Thank you for playing it🇺🇸
A wonderful tribute to the brave that gave their lives to end oppression. I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud we did it. But now, I have to ask. Will anyone come to our aid if we need it?
One of the best filmic serenades that turns from solemn to jubilant; truly capturing every breath about a soldier's spirit immortalised! (Sir) John Williams!
When I think about that, I think about the Scottish pipe tune, "The Flowers of The Forest", going back to the Battle of Flodden in 1513 fought between the Scots and the English. I also hear a similar melody "Abide With Me".
I have brothers buried here at home... this moved me so much. It's not free folks. The crazy part is that if you could ask them to do it again, they would without batting an eye. God bless these men and God bless the USA! Thank you Don... you make me proud. If I'm ever over the pond I'd love to buy you a beer.
Every time I see this video, I get goosebumps. By the time I finish this video I am balling my eyes out. As you watch, can you not feel the love and ultimate sorrow throughout and feel such humility compared to all those brave souls.
I was watching one of these where a German orchestra displayed and played this piece of music; it was definitely a "hold on, what just happened?" moment. As a veteran, I appreciate and believe in the words, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted". Glad to see this video reaction.

All give some, some give all. When we enlist, we give our country a blank check which is payable up to and including the ultimate sacrifice to our nation. God bless our brothers and sisters who have paid that ultimate price.
John Williams has become, for me, America's greatest composer, arranger, and conductor. He proudly joins the ranks of the greatest composers....Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and others but STILL WITH US! in our modern era! He composed and recorded his most well-known works: Heidi, Fiddler on the Roof, The Poseidon Adventure, Tom Sawyer, Earthquake!, The Towering Inferno, Jaws, all of the Star Wars films, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, 1941, the NBC Nightly News and NBC Sunday Night Football themes, NBC News "The Mission...", Heartbeeps, E.T., 1984 the famous Olympic Fanfare, all of the Indiana Jones films, The Goonies, the TV series Amazing Stories, The Witches of Eastwick, Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, Home Alone!, Hook!, Schindler's List, The Jurrasic Park films, The Patriot, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, the first three Harry Potter films (the greatest!!!), The Terminal, War of the Worlds (2005 one), and so many more that I cannot list here. Thank you for showcasing this tribute to The Hymn to the Fallen. God Bless!
All of those cemeteries in other countries are actually considered American territory. They are maintained by th US Battle Monuments Commission. Incredibly sobering visiting those places. I've been to the cemeteries at Normandy, Henri-Chappelle, and Punchbowl in Hawaii. There is solace in just how immaculate they are, they are beautiful and peaceful places.

God bless this young Scottish man who blessed me with his love. Thank you whoever you are.
I love the fact that you appreciate my country and others so much. Even some of our own countrymen do not respect America as you do. Good on you, I'm now a subscriber. Thank you. :)
Thank you very much
We went to Luxemburg when we stationed in Germany 1978,it was to see Gen Pattons grave,it was truly hallowed ground. We just stood and cried. The American cemetery was kept immaculate. Went a mile down the road and the German cemetery was terribble, they were dumped in a tomb.It was sad.
Once again I say GOD BLESS AMERICA And GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND A GREAT TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN HEROES
Americans know Freedom is NEVER Free, Military Family Here
Americans have been subjugating people for decades ruining the lives of working class people....invading other people's countries....you must be so proud eh?
yours sincerely, a former British Royal marine Commando who fought in two illegal US profit wars - Iraq and Afghanistan
This is so heart breaking but beautiful tribute to the hero's who died.
I've never seen this video, it's definitely sobering. God bless.
I do believe the host nations take care of the cemeteries...thank you host nations!
We've all lost so many, but that number at the end is startling. I will always be grateful. I love your reactions.

You definitely need to listen to Arlington by Trace Adkins for another great patriotic song.
Here's my Reaction to it
John Williams is a modern composer. He’s done quite a few film soundtracks. You might be familiar with one of them ... Star Wars. 😊
Jurassic Park, Home Alone, Titanic, Harry Potter, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind...... so many awesome orchestrations!
@@jena6587 AND, don't forget Superman, the movies, that is!
@@odiebryer2144 I forgot about those!

John Williams also did the Star Wars themes, Indiana Jones themes, and other amazing movies
Thank you Lord for sending us heroes when we most need them. They deserve the highest places in heaven!
Heartbreaking. Sobering.
John Williams composer, wrote theme song for star wars, Schindler list and other movie themes.
Thank you.
God Bless you and your family, friends, and ventures.
Through agape love.
Here I am in America, 1 day from Memorial Day. I'm a 3rd generation US Army vet. This shit hits me hard. Rock of the Marne!
If you’ve never taken the risk of coming home under our flag.... don’t dare stomp it throw to ground or burn it. Don’t kneel when our national anthem plays. Freedom isn’t free.
Well said. Thank you!
These brave soldiers fought so that ANYONE can kneel in protest grow a brain
@@jeanneivanyi591 NO I DID NOT thank me for my broken neck in service. I fought for a safe place to live and a future. Free speech does not include the right to spit on anyone, pull down or stomp on or TURN YOUR BACK on the flag. It means SPEAK!
P.S. you want to kneel it means you are unwilling to FIGHT and are willing to be ruled over by a TYRANT.
@@suzannehartmann946 idiot free speech is a constitutional right which ALL servicemen and women should be fighting for
My grandpa was a purple heart recipient in ww2.
Thank you all for your service you all are HEROES
When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying that, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”
It became very quiet in the room. You could have heard a pin drop.
John Williams is America's premier composer. He has written the scores to many famous movies.
John Williams is considered America's greatest living composer and one of the best of all time, he's written many movie scores as well as his own music.
Love your reactions Sir! As a retired soldier of 22 years, this song is incredibly moving. I highly recommend watching Jackie Evancho's rendition of the song "My Heart Will Go On" at a recent Memorial Day concert.
Thank you very much
Completely overwhelming! Beautiful cemeteries and monuments. May God bless and keep them all! Crying now...
Thanks Don! This really makes one stop and think in so many different ways doesn't it? 😢🙏
Powerful and stunning.
Grateful for our military.
Grateful for your protection.
Grateful for the MANY military family members
Grateful for my deployed military sons in law
❤️
10 seconds in and I've lost it. Much respect 🙏
i would be proud to have you as an American citizen you have more love for the u.s. than many native born.
Many, worldwide have forgotten or never knew of America's contributions to their freedoms.
Very emotional watching this. So many lives lost fought for freedom. Lest we forget. Gone but remembered. May God grant you everlasting peace.
Thank you for sharing this. I've not seen it before. Very moving.
If you have yet to Google John Williams, take a moment to do so. You probably know most of his compositions.
I wish you were my friend you have an amazing heart I'm a 75 year old man from Safety Harbor Florida USA God love you man I hope you have a great life !!!!!
Thank you very much Jim.God bless you
Thanks for this as we’re going into Memorial weekend! Just came across your channel and you’re awesome! Thank you for being so respectful to the US and our military!!
John Williams wrote this song for the movie, Saving Private Ryan. He wrote the theme to Jaws and Star Wars and dozens of other films as well. He collaborated with Steven Spielberg on most of his movies.
Thank you for reacting to this.
My pleasure
I love your Scottish cow pillow!❤️ the memorial in Pearl Harbor is directly over the USS Arizona which took a direct hit straight down into where bombs were stashed! My mother’s boyfriend went down with the ship! The song is giving me chills! Thank you for playing it🇺🇸
My pleasure
I wasn't familiar with this piece of music before. Thanks so much for your reaction or I would never have heard it.
A wonderful tribute to the brave that gave their lives to end oppression. I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud we did it. But now, I have to ask. Will anyone come to our aid if we need it?
We would 🇬🇧
Being a Vietnam era veteran every time I watch such a video I get a enormous lump in my throat
Always brings tears to my eyes, they're all my brothers and sisters. I'm a 20 years US Army veteran
Every time I see this video, I get goosebumps. By the time I finish this video I am balling my eyes out. As you watch, can you not feel the love and ultimate sorrow throughout and feel such humility compared to all those brave souls.
Thank you for what you have done, and I for one hope you keep going.
I was watching one of these where a German orchestra displayed and played this piece of music; it was definitely a "hold on, what just happened?" moment. As a veteran, I appreciate and believe in the words, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted". Glad to see this video reaction.
John Williams is a very famous movie composer he has been doing it for many years he’s composed many great movie scores this is such a moving score by John Williams brings a tear to my eye.
Very nice, thank you for sharing.
Man this moves me..I've been in war as a Marine..this hurts ..I love u all my Brothers

Hey man,Think Star Wars. God bless.
All give some, some give all.
When we enlist, we give our country a blank check which is payable up to and including the ultimate sacrifice to our nation.
God bless our brothers and sisters who have paid that ultimate price.
John Williams is the greatest composer of our day!
John Williams did the Star wars theme and so many more.
God Bless!
John Williams composed and conducted the music for many movies, including Star Wars, Indians Jones, and Superman.
Give a listen to the song by Toby Keith "American Soldier" ( a remembrance day Tribute). Thanks!
There is also an American dedicated cemetery in Cambridge England!
Here is a very short but poignant one CSN&Y" Find the Cost of Freedom". Thanks and Enjoy

I'm not a patreon but a song that brings tears to my eyes is called The Wall by the Statler Brothers, be nice if you could react to it. I have family members and friends with their names on it.
Oh gosh yes. That song gets me every time.
