Bought some coffee
Nice work Ryan!
Awesome video Ryan!!! Amazing tool Bill and Mike, thank you for everything you guys do for this hobby. Have a cup of coffee on me!!!
Thank you and thanks for showing them some love!
Really good piece of work Ryan and I'm sure for anyone new to pixinsight the step by step guide will be invaluable. The processing tools in the last couple of years have been game changes from RC blur xterminator, noise and star xterminator. To have all Bill and Mike's tools as processes and scripts especially with real time previews is awesome 👌
Ryan, just wanted to express my appreciation for your channel. I recently downloaded your narrowband pdf (fantastic!) and have since looked forward to everything you’re producing. Keep up the great work.
Well Joseph I appreciate you saying that it means a lot! And we’ll keep it up check out my OSC video as well and if you email the same address I have the OSC guide on auto reply. I did it on PowerPoint this time so it’s a little bit nicer. I’m going to redo the narrowband in PowerPoint with this and I’ll announce it in a video when it’s done.
Thanks for the tip. This will be extremely useful.
It’s like cheating it was hard to limit the video to just 3 images I tried it on a bunch! It doesn’t work in all cases, but it does for most 👌🏼
It's an awesome tool, I had a very quick play with it just using an image complete with stars and it still shone. When I find time towards end of term and am on term holidays I'll have a decent play with it. Thanks for adding to the information on this :)
It is a great tool for both OSC and mono users and it can help me to get the look you and Luke get with my OSC images quicker!
@@darkrangersinc Later today I'll pop up and before and after on my instagram page of the running chicken the change is astonishing
@@darkrangersinc Had a play with the Dolphin head nebula I used HOO blend 2 mode and the OIII lightness and it shone so the O3 will work well with the blend 2 and objects rich in O3
@@nikaxstrophotography I bet that looks awesome! On my HOO images it tends to give me like a purpleish blue look on mode 2 - more of the cooler tones. If you wouldn’t mind, I love the feature in an upcoming episode!

If you wouldn’t mind sending a decent quality JPEG
Fantastic stuff by Bill and team, and appreciate u demo-ing it, Ryan! I am curious how the stretching results come out vs doing with GHS or even with Bill”s other stretching pixel maths. Irrespective, these new tools and scripts are INCREDIBLE. Now I just need to brave the latest PixInsight update install. 😂
I think the best of both worlds is to normalize while it’s linear and then use GHS.
I was talking about that wizard nebula example.
Instead of stretching all three with GHS, you could put them together normalize, and then the one big stretch with GHS, knowing that you have gotten a good amount more out of the data after combining
Very nice Thank you
Im not at this skill level yet but it looks like a very user-friendly tool to me. Cheers Si
That’s the whole point it takes the skill out of it I was showing you what it does to my final images but you don’t need to be at that level.
Just take any dual narrow band or mono and use it on it before you stretch it or after you stretch it and bring it to life!
Try it on some images you’ve already done first and you’ll see
@@darkrangersinc My knowledge around filters and palettes isn’t quite there yet but I’m learning all the time thanks to your channel Ryan.
Might have to get the Antlia triband you did the clip on as my first OSC filter purchase
@@Si-fp2ij for this to work, you could probably get away with a Triband, but it make work even better with a duo narrowband. I have a good Ha and O3 image with the Triband let me use it on that first and I’ll let you know before you get it
@@darkrangersinc ok great, let me know how you go with it Ryan. Cheers Si
Thanks, You have done one of the easiest explanations of this new tool that I have seen. Glad I came across your video
Glad you found it too! Thanks for the kind words! It’s incorporated into my newest processing guide already for one shot color and narrow band if you email the address in the description. It’ll kick it out to you 💪🏼
@@darkrangersinc Just send an email, Hope it's the right one, I didn't see it in the description but found in the About section. Than again, I may have missed it. I'll be checking out your website here shortly. Always looking for something new and interesting to may thing as easy as pie, PI has one hell of a learning curve and I've barely touched the surface over the last 2 years.
I watched your video on Andromeda and was so impressed with your workflow and notes. I have some really good data from the same object and have tried three different RUclips instructional videos and have gotten lost every time. I am looking forward to trying your workflow. How do I get a paper copy of your steps? I’d like one if possible. Do you use the same workflow for nebulas as well? Love the channel.
Hey thank you for all the kind words…as it mentions in the andromeda OSC send an email to:
darkrangerguides@gmail.com
I have an auto reply, set up to send you back the guide for narrowband, and one shot color. I combined it into one document (2 - separate guides). I have started doing some 1:1 stuff as well so let me know in the email if that’s something you may be interested in. An hour or 2 can save many hours of frustration down the road I’m finding using video conferencing where I can help you process in real time
9/5/23 update* A new version is coming out that will work with PRE-UPDATE Pixinsite! Stay tuned I’ll make a post when it’s done 🙌🏼💪🏼
Look forward to using this but a question. What settings would you use with a Triband OSC image? I use an Antlia Triband RGB Ultra Narrowband filter and would like to get the most out of it.
Well, the Triband isn’t really a Narrow band filter. But you could still try it out to see what it does. I would probably go with HOO, since it has three different modes, and it tends to do the best with images that have that overall red look and giving it more of a Hubble palette style if that’s what you’re going for
Ryan. I cannot see the 'copy and paste' link in the information. I tried to write address link out full but it would not work. Any help/suggests, please?
It’s the blue hyperlink in the description second line just below “copy and paste” message. You may have to clock on it and copy it from internet explorer or chrome if you’re on your phone because sometimes YT will abbreviate it
www.cosmicphotons.com/pi-modules/narrowbandnormalization/
Many thanks, Great review, but for the life of me, I am unable to install it.
Make sure you’re not clicking on the link because it won’t take you to a website. Go to resources > manage repositories > add > paste in that address in the description > back to resources > check for updates > click yes > close and reopen Pixinsight
Shoot me a DM on IG if that doesn’t work same name as the channel
I hope to use the tool however the 'link' address does not appear in the description for me to copy & paste. Can you please re-write it. Thanks
It’s in there have had many people confirm it works it’s the second line in the description under the sentence telling you to copy and paste it
You may have to just click on it and then the page it opens copy it from there if it’s showing up as a hyperlink there’s no way to put a web address in YT and have it not do that
Hello, I am totally lost when its about the processing order. When to use the NarrowbandNormalization?
I guess after channel combination? So still in linear mode? THX
You can do it either linear or post stretch. More recently I’ve been having more luck using it stretched since stretch can undo some of the changes. So I would try both but personally I like to do either GHS or whatever stretching method and then hit it afterwards so I know it will stay the way I want it
so just to inform you.. I read the manual of the software. They recommend to use it afer stratch (non-linear mode) as not everything works in linear mode.@@darkrangersinc
He’s changed the process then as you saw in the video I spoke to him before the video and if you watch his release video he states the same so I appreciate the update. I tend to use to post stretch as I mentioned because stretching can undo it. But
Whoa. This tool is insane. Should this be done on a starless image?
neverminded, you just said it ha.
@@AstroHunter5280 haha yeah if you run any type of correction, this will undo it. I haven’t watched the video in a while but also make sure you run BXT before this too.
Do you use this function directly after doing the stretch?
Yes, I have switched to only using this post. Scratch when I initially spoke to Bill. He said it was good for linear data as well but once he stretched it, it does undo similar changes.
So after you get done with GHS or whatever stretch you’re going to do, I would do this right away before combine stars into add additional stars
hi, im having a bit of problems with adding this to my pixinsight. i have checked and its the newest release (i reinstalled it anyway just incase) but still no luck. i paste the URL into the repository and click ok, check for updates then it says no update avalible.....
please help
www.cosmicphotons.com/pi-modules/narrowbandnormalization/
Are you using this exact address, no spaces? Make sure to add click ok, and then “check for updates”. If it’s not working with this address I don’t know of any other cause. This one should even work with the old version of Pixinsight. Let me know!
I'll try again, 1 sec
its still doing it it says "There are no updates currently available for your PixInsight installation"
@@darkrangersinc
It does not work with the 1.8.9-1 version I need to update to 9-2 but a lot of modules dont work with the 9-2
Yeah I made sure to mention right away in the vid that you need to update. I’ve had ZERO issues with this one everything I use works 100% the same as it did before
Apparently will not load on the new "M" series of CPU's from Apple.
I have a new M2 Max MacBook Pro. It works for me 🤷🏻♂️
Does not work after the first day.
YOu commented about the pixinsight update going without a glitch on your mac, what type of mac do you have? I am running a 2020 intell 27" with dual monitors and cannot update past 1.8.9-1 because of constant crashes, errors, crashes and process stopping duplicate runs when dragging and dropping the corners of a process. Did I say crashes? 20 plus apple reports in one day on two image processes in RGB. Worst software I have ever purchased. Even simple things like the image container cannot process more than 25 images at a time without failing and causing banding on all images. I am at the point of just deleting this frustration and using something else. Even DSS works better than WBPP, which can take up to 10 hours to stack, whereby DSS can do it in less than 1/2 an hour.
I have one of the M2 MacBook Pros with the silicone chip not their intel chips. APP is much faster at stacking too but the silicone chips do a great job with Pixinsight. For PC or Mac you typically want 64 GB of ram, and an SSD.
I don’t know much about the Intel platform Max unfortunately I know that with PC and those chips they use CUDA to speed up several of the processes but it’s just not my area of expertise.
I was all of the new versions because you really can’t fuss with them. You just pick the stats you want and it comes all ready to go in a fairly bulletproof package.
for some reason I can not load it.
Did you copy and paste the link into repositories? It won’t work as a website link it’ll give you a “404” error. But that’s fine you just want to copy and paste it to the repository after you click “add”
@@darkrangersinc thanks for the answer I did realize I had to manually update pixinsight and I did it solved the problem.
@@darkrangersinc The link is incomplete, I did type it the same you have it on your video and did not work either.
@@jjaimesmxYT abbreviates hyperlinks if they’re long if you just click on it and copy the full address once it opens it works fine. There’s no way to input in the description and not have YT do that but once it opens and the 404 error message pulls up the full address is in your web browser so it will work
I won't install for me either
What are you doing to install it? Are you clicking the link and copying it into repositories?
