    What do you think about when you’re running a half marathon? Or maybe you haven’t run one yet and this video’s given you an idea of what it’s like? 👇

      Don’t worry, just pace yourself, don’t get caught up in the event and start off too fast, it’s about pacing yourselves to your level at that point, it’s a decent distance so steady for your first one, you will then have a base to work on if you are up for the challenge again, most of all enjoy your run 🏃‍♀️

    This Sunday I just ran my first ever race and it was a half marathon. I can certainly relate to the tears in the end. The finish line was just across the street from the hospital were 14 months before I was lying on a bed with a drain in my abdomen, recovering from a surgery. I had never ran a single kilometer in my life at that point. 14 months later, I was across the street lying on the grass, recovering from a half marathon . It was not my last race, that is for sure. Thank you The Running Channel too for being part of my journey and teaching, cheering and amusing me along the way. Congratulations Anna for another race!

    Last April I ran my very first half marathon (as a 13 year old!). I was the youngest person in the race too! My goal was to get 2 hours, and I got 1:59:59 (that was my official time!)! I was so proud of myself. My coach trained me for 10 weeks (I think) and she also ran the race with me. Without her I wouldn't have been able to do it! The Running Channel is inspiring me to run another! Thank you so much! Good job Anna!

      I ran my first half marathon as a 12 year old (I’m fourteen now) and ran a 1:31:01, it was a completely flat course though with only a few minor hills. I have yet to try another half marathon because of how terrifyingly painful it is. Hoping to do another soon. My dad is a former Boston Marathon runner so he helped me through the training a lot.

    I did my first half marathon on Saturday and I don't know what I was expecting or what I was training (I'd been basically building from COUCH in a year) the mental and emotional energy started to hit me at about mile 4 and I was fortunate enough to strike up a conversation with a woman who'd done the race before and was generous enough to stick with me for the rest of it when we re-entered the park getting to the finish line I forced out that last burst of energy hit the finish line and kinda collapsed for a second (finish time just over 3 hours but I FINISHED and that's enough for right now)
    After race thoughts: part of me wanted to never touch my running shoes again and a strange another part almost immediately started planning when I can get back out and improve for next time THANK YOU RUNNING CHANNEL for all the inspiration!!!

    My wife decided that she wanted to start her 30s off with a bang so we're doing the Disney Princess Half-Marathon on the 23rd this month. We just did a 13.5 mile (walk/jog) in 3:15 so we know we can finish in time but I'm certain there will be tears at the end of the race. Before now we've only done a local 5K race (but we are regulars at Orange Theory Fitness!) so this will be a huge leap over what we've put ourselves through till now!

    I just did my 3rd half on Sunday.... Saturday we had a category 1 hurricane come through, Sunday was 40kph winds (headwind for the last 4.5k) and 70kph gusts... but I set a pb by over 6 minutes. At 10k I was thinking, "god I have to do that again" at 16k I was thinking "just another 5k" and for the last 1k I was thinking "I hate this bl**dy wind".
    for my 1st half I was also very emotional coming to the end. The organizers had set up a huge video screen at the 12 mile mark so when you ran over the chip timer they played a video that your family recorded the day before. Many tears there and more when I finished.

    Really enjoyed this video, and well done Anna! I'm impressed you ran under 2 hours whilst having the breathe to commentate and film as you ran. I've only done 3 Half Marathons (so far) and have really enjoyed all of them. At the time it feels horrendous, especially as I'm always trying to go for a fast time, and I'm often just counting down the minutes until it's over. I find it all quite tough from Mile 4 to the end, but especially at Mile 10 when the finish is still far away. 2 of my Half Marathons have been my "home one" - the Southampton Half which I have enjoyed more because it can be a bit emotional recognising where you're running and some of the people cheering you on. Despite all the pain I still tell myself that a Half is my favourite distance to race and there's always a really good goodie bag and medal usually waiting afterwards!

    I’m a high school track and cross country runner who may run d1 college soon and I had an idea that seems kind of cool but kind of dumb. I want to gotta marathon with professional runners and hold up with all of them the first 3 miles and see how much attention I can get. Should I do that? I could still probably finish the marathon in sub 3 hour pace

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  4 года назад

      My honest advice would be to stick to what you're doing, listen to your coaches, and don't worry about getting attention with the pros. Train hard and smart, and show people what you can do on the track or XC, and enjoy it! Any attention you'd get running a marathon that way would be short-lived! Good luck! Andy

Didn't go as planned though - my achilles got injured the Sunday before in my last training run and I couldn't walk until the Tuesday, but used plenty of ice and ibuleve to get me to the start line (I couldn't not do it!). I slowed my pace and it was going well until after 2 miles when I could feel my achilles, then it completely went after 7, but I still made it to the end with walking and limp running in just over 3 hours (my original target was 2:15).
