I couldn't believe it when this song showed up in "Priceless." It took me straight back to a night in 1963. I was a junior in college, and had accompanied my roommate to visit his younger sister in New York City. He went off to do something else and I spent that single, all-too-short evening with Elizabeth, smitten beyond all reason. I never saw her again (it's a long story), but "Brother, Where Are You" was playing on her hi-fi as I leaned in for my only kiss. I found the album when I got back to school, and heartbroken, played the song late into the night through my headphones for months after that -- and then never again. Hearing it in tonight's Netflix movie took me right back there. I had to find it, and thanks to you, Daniel, I did. Some longings never fully fade, apparently.
I'm happy they included this touching song into the movie Priceless (2006). Would have never heard it otherwise, and the combination of such a powerful song in a movie that succeeds at being an excellent film makes jake a happy boy.
This song came out many years ago, late 50's, early 60's. It was a sad song to me and talked about all the brothers who are LOST. Sadly, many years later, the song is still speaking true for all the lost brothers wandering the streets with no where to go.
I’ve heard a very slightly different version of this played on the digital radio station ‘Smooth Chill’ twice now and I instantly fell in love with it. What a song. Brilliant.
A * MILESTONE * in Music - History ! This is the REAL version, Recorded 1965 Live Be sure you listen to the tune " BEAUTIFUL GIRL " from the same Event ! < ENJOY >
Thanks for the feedback,Rusty. Oops, too; I meant the music, we had a big room, with huge speakers; not him, himself. Still the presence was as if he was there. Amazing stuff...
Jack Jones sang this? (I think I'm going to lose my lunch.) Yes, this is the original version, written and performed live by Oscar Brown, Jr. in Washington in 1965.
Someone on this thread said the Johnny Rivers version was better; it's not. It's overproduced and so commercial that it kills the deep soulful sound captured by Oscar Brown, Jr. Some sounds are better when they are elevated to a higher level, with a chorus and a big orchestral in the background. It kills other songs.
Watched The Chi last night and heard this song. Had to have it. Amazing! RIP Mr. Oscar Brown JR. This lives on.
just heard this on THE CHI and had find out who song this was..... greatness

The Chi brought me here too.
When I heard this song a billion years ago, I pictured it to be a take on Jesus Christ. I thought it had a profoundly religious sound to it.
The Chi brought me here, too.
