Omg this is my dream..... so amazing!!! how can we even get there ... my 9 month old husky is pretty good on leash, but he is extremely playful and social and when he is off leash, it’s hard to control sometimes. I never want to give up but I’m feeling a little beaten since he is such a big and strong puppy. If I keep working on this, will we get there eventually???
Yes! Totally possible for you to do this. Do you need to use the right tools and the right communication. Teach teach teach! Then expectAll that you’ve taught. I also highly recommend Ecollar conditioning your dog to all commands, especially the recall command. It is an amazing tool that just conditioned your dog to listen to you all the time. Like these ones.

Naoko Okada Yes, you can totally get off of it at a later date and only use it when you need it for a new place or a new distraction, etc. But this is only if you do it really well in the beginning. It’s not that hard. You just want to be consistent in your use of it once you have conditioned your dog to the command you want with Ecollar simulation. After six months or a year you’re kind of pretty much done. But you have to put it on in the morning and take it off at night during that time. Not jus when you are training or they gat savvy to it in and off. I have a whole playlist in RUclips of going off leash with your dog. From getting the Ecollar, taking it out of the box, finding the lowest number, adding into a command the dogs knows (usually “come”, etc.

You need to teach them a really good heel. Also a really good recall. I have playlists to do that. You should do that in non-distracting areas and slowly move to more distracting areas, like this. You can’t just do it without progressing them through their learning in lower distraction areas first. There’s a saying, “if you can’t get the behavior you want at home, you won’t get it out on the trail off leash”. So you have to check out those other playlists...Heel and recall.
You have to build motivation for the dog to want to come to you first. Do that through play. Then you teach a solid sit stay, and if they break it, you tell them it’s not worth it. So three things going on … A dog that wants to be with me, and a dog that really knows their command. If after all of that fails, then we can use long lines and Ecollar‘s to give them more information around it. But I rarely have to do that. You just have to build the motivation, teach them what to do, and then give them information if they choose to blow it off later. It’s a process, but not a hard one! Just takes time, consistency, and leader ship from you.

I just want to let the dog now that you don’t like it and it’s not worth it. Look it up on my channel and do something similar for your pup (it doesn’t have to be with Ecollar, it could be a finger poke, it could be a finger wag, it could be a foot tap, it could be a leash pop, it just Hass to be whatever it is that makes the dog stop doing it and look remorseful. Then move on from it.) Good luck!
So what do u do if u meet dogs who run over to greet ur dogs and the owners cant recall them ? This is the problem i am currently having. My 11 month dog isnt 'strong' enough to stay in sit/down if the passing dogs jump all over him, but would ignore them if they walked past under control like ur neighbours dogs just did. Its ruining my training !
If your dog is friendly and you are certain that the other dogs are, then say "break" before the dogs get to your dog. Sometimes this is the easiest thing and then practice when you are certain the other dogs won't get in his face (like on a bike path with leashed dogs). Or YOU have to keep the other dogs away by getting in front of your sitting dog and you may need to use your legs or a stick until the owner can get their dog. I have always found it less stressful for the dog to break them if another dog/s comes running over. Nobody seems to recommend that. " Do everything you need to do, to get the dog away". I mean who wants to be that person to a friendly dog. If it's aggressive or tense then yes. Or if I'm with a reactive dog. If you force it, there is pressure coming from you and the other dogs. The dogs can end up hating even friendly dogs with this method. It also ruins your walks 😂...

E-collars are illegal in my country. Can it be done without? I tend to think the call of nature (sex drive, prey drive) will perhaps always be stronger with very strong distractions than bonds with a human.
You can do this without Ecollars, it just takes a lot longer, and you don’t get quite 100% reliability. You could put the long line on the dog w training collar and do this over and over for months and you’ll probably get your dog to come back 95% of the time. Maybe even 99%. It will just take months of Practicing long line recalls with some sort of training collar on the dog and great rewards. So when you say the initial “come”, with the ecollar stimulation, instead you. An use leash and training collar pressure ( prong collar, martingale, etc). Something that makes him want to “turn it off” and come to you. (The specific training collar depends on how intense vs soft your dog is in their brain and their body size.) You would have to look into my operant conditioning playlist to understand more of that “turning pressure off”and on” concept. Also, It is always such a bummer when I hear that re ecollars. If places ban tools and then they inevitably have to start banning different dog breeds.

There are many ways to train a dog and food helps. But it’s best to be able to do it because they want to do it for you not just to get a treat. So aspire to that! A good challenge :-)
You need to create a situation where you are way more exciting and likable and fun than his surrounding environment. Those competing reinforcers (dietactions) Are better than you and your dogs eyes. So use food, use play, use engagement. Use whatever you can and be excited to get him to want to be with you.You can also correct him for getting to disengaged with you. Good luck!
