Why has this concert never been released ? Probably one of the greatest concerts ever. If American traditional music could be represented by a concert, this would be it. It has everything; folk, gospel, rock, Americana...
This is at the peak of Ry Cooder´s musical career - just as any other music he produces - genius, Legend who cannot go wrong I like to believe - musicologist, Global & national treasure
True Soul wrapped up in Gospel & delivered in the Blues. Ry Cooder has always been a special soul, gathering those around him with the passion to deliver.
Instantly recognizable, brilliant playing. Ry is the most respected within the music business,of all the living blues guitarists, period. The so called rock and roll hall of fame is not even worthy of him.
Thanks to all of you that commented and educated us about Ry's instrument. As always, Mr. Cooder is unique. I would be remiss if I did not thank the person posting this. THANKS !
Wish my husband were alive to see this. He had the album Into the Purple Valley so long ago and we never knew he sang this. It's great I love this song
Ry is too much. First off he looks like some harmless weedy pop singer. You could slap a beatle jacket on him. But then out comes this enormous raw okey shouter voice all festooned with huge gospel realism and he just knocks you out!
Not too much for me....i could handle All-Ry all the time! ;) top of my all-time favourite musicians...not to take anything away from any of the accompanying musicians!
We used to sing this in church back in the 70's. The Church of course had their own version. It is amazing to hear again-in a blues version. It made my spirit soar!
I believe it's a Vox Mando-Guitar, made from '64-'68. Unison string pairs, not octaves. But enough technical trivia, Ry could play rubber bands stretched across a shoebox and sound great.
@danmiller66 Comment from WesleyvanH: "That Vox Mandoguitar Ry's playing is a octave twelfe. A hybrid with a short-scale 12-string guitar neck and a small solid electric guitar body. It's usually tuned one octave higher than a standard guitar with the pairs of strings tuned in unison rather than in octaves as is the case of standard 12-string guitars. This puts the instrument in the same range as a mandolin."
Absolutely. Jesus enjoyed a good party! I'm sure he would have enjoyed Ry & the Moula Banda Rhythm Aces! Does this sound like a 'party pooper' to you? Marriage at Cana - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_at_Cana

@@draaikont8637 Sincerely, yours is not an uncommon situation, because we all feel God is supposed to hear our every desire, and fulfill it as we order Him to.
Fantastic. All of them. Early Ry Cooder LP's are real gems. Saw him with Bobby King & Terry Evans in the 80's. I don't think he's been back to Toronto since. Too bad!

Wow! I wish I could have been there, on fire, wow! This is real playing and singing. This brings memories and all good ones, the way it's played and sang, chills run up and down my spine. What a gig that was.
This song makes me like jesus is on the main the line it is so spiritual. The line is never busy tell him what you want, call him up and tell him what you want xx
Long time ago I bought an obscure bootleg CD titled " Ry Cooder . Live USA" (LSD Record 152.062) in an department store (!). It features 10 tracks from the movie in mono (like this youtube video). You can find it here: www.discogs.com/de/Ry-Cooder-Live-USA/release/2897627
I've ALWAYs loved this- sometimes I just start singing back up- someone said Ry Cooder could sing at my funeral- AMen to that- I talk to him the time- not sure he's listening- I meant jesus- but Ry Cooder would be cool-

@oceanplanet602 I think Ry Cooder is a super underrated musician. I mean, I hardly know ANYONE who knows who he is, or has ever even heard of him or his music. But why?! I mean, Ry Cooder is such an amazing musician, it blows my mind! He's one of the best guitarists I've ever heard.

This is definitely the most soulful version of this old gospel hymn I have ever heard!
The vocal quartet is what makes this performance for me . . . powerful singers all and they rock the hell out of Mainline !
💯 💯 💯 💯!
especially dat bass Sanger! whooo
Monster crew on this one! Bobby King/Terry Evans are SO good. Have a couple of their lp's from back in the day.
This is absolutely amazing. Ry Cooder is the man

"JESUS IS ON THE MAINLIIINE TELL HIM WHAT YOU WANT!!!" I LOVE YOU JESUS!!!!!!!
Pure genious. How the hell he gets that thing in tune let alone finger-picking it AND bottlenecking beats me. Great track. Thanks
Instantly recognizable, brilliant playing. Ry is the most respected within the music business,of all the living blues guitarists, period. The so called rock and roll hall of fame is not even worthy of him.
5 years. Grown up yet?
marinman39 you got that right!
He's basically a silver haired guy now; still a stone genius
Thanks to all of you that commented and educated us about Ry's instrument. As always, Mr. Cooder is unique. I would be remiss if I did not thank the person posting this. THANKS !

If you had that album you should be familiar with one of my favorites, Ry's cover of Denomination Blues!
@@adderman1950 no not familiar with any other albums for whatever reason. But I'll check out Denomination Blues 👍

Solid body mandolin with strat pickups and electrics!! I want one! :D
Not a mandolin. It’s a 12-string guitar tuned one octave up from standard.
I believe it's a Vox Mando-Guitar, made from '64-'68. Unison string pairs, not octaves. But enough technical trivia, Ry could play rubber bands stretched across a shoebox and sound great.
Big thanks! I’m a guitarist and I was wondering what it was, confused. Great combo. Should I make my own? Sam X
