Watto's bit had me in tears. Kevin's reaction of almost deflating was amazing. Andy laughing for 2 minutes afterwards was great. Watto not being able to finish a sentence and slipping into a Brooklyn accent was art.
"The force is with you young Skywalker. But you are not a Jedi yet." I had a Vader ornament that said that line everytime the lights were turned on. My mom hated it, but it became my favorite line ever.
iceman333933 yeah that is a great line. I like when he also says. ”Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.”
It's easy to take these things for granted after having seen the movie so many times but the mere fact that they set the first act of the story on a snow covered planet and that the first sequence follows a droid that crash lands there to scout for the main characters is SUPER important to establishing an oppressive atmosphere that is pushing everyone together (before they are ultimately separated and left to their own devices). Each character deals with an internal conflict surrounding their duties to an institution and their trust in individuals. Luke is trying to pursue his predestination toward greatness, to follow in the footsteps of his father who he has romanticized through Ben as being this perfect Jedi knight, Ben and Yoda are struggling with the fear of him turning into his father and can not see all the ways in which he ISN'T like him so they appeal to him through Jedi tradition alone, Han and Leia have a building romance - they are both swindlers in a way and can recognize that in each other - but Leia can't separate her professional opinion of him from her sense of place or bring herself to let go of performing her duties as a leader of the Rebellion to make that connection and Han is too entrenched in his own feelings for her to perform his duties as an actor in the Rebellion - the personal connection is really the only thing of weight to him so he creates excuses to ditch the larger responsibilities and find that connection elsewhere, Lando is dealing with this conflict as well as he folds to the Empire to provide for the people of Cloud city - betraying the trust of his friend who came to him in a moment of desparation which consequently is a turning point for Han where he sees the merit of the Rebellion with more clarity "You're a real hero," as Vader tightens his grip Lando is pushed to reforming and aids the group in escaping and saving Han, Leia ends up confessing her love to Han (but more importantly herself) and Luke puts aside his pursuit of his role model to protect the ones he cares about. While all these characters get beaten down in their states of weakness and personal flaws, they end the story by reconnecting and refocusing on what they need to do which is why it's so enticing to just watch Jedi IMMEDIATELY after. The underdogs have refound their footing, they see things more clearly and are huddling back together...but there is still that one. Let's go get him!
JarJar is annoying because he is the center of scenes that have no function but to be silly. C3PO is almost never the point of a scene the way JarJar is.
I would really love to see you all rank the lightsaber battles as you go through the Star Wars movies. I know it's another thing to rank, but the duels are more than just sword fights to Star Wars. There is a lot of emotion and meaning to pick apart behind each of them for us and the characters involved. I would be curious to hear you all discuss and rank.
This is great! Oh my god, Kinda Funny's in Review just keeps getting better. Nick does a great job recapping the movie. I enjoys everyone's comments throughout the recap, Watto's* cameos are also great, I love the fact he can't keep it together and it's great to watch. I hope more folks watch this! Great work all around! Empire Strikes Back is an awesome movie that lives up to this day and I'm glad everyone enjoyed it!.
Dude I had so many Star Wars legos when I was a kid. I had the 3000 piece Star Destroyer, the a-wing, b-wing, x-wing, tie fighter, tie advanced, millennium falcon, 2 snow speeders, the at-at, the clone wars beetle Walker, arc 170, and all the minifigs that came with it. So much fun.
They love that the Bounty Hunters just exist and don't do anything but I bet they're gonna hate the Knights of Ren just existing in the sequel trilogy.
“Do or do not” doesn’t mean “Don’t try, just do it.” It means “You will Succeed or Fail”. Which is amazing considering Yoda is saying “You can fail as equally as you succeed.”
@kevin Lucas was the owner of Lucas arts at the time and picked his own directors. It's a common misconception that studio interference made him give up directing witch is weird as he paid for the movie himself. Star wars was an indy project. He said this at the time about it "I dislike directing. I hate the constant dealing with volatile personalities. Directing is emotional frustration, anger, and tremendously hard work - seven days a week, twelve to sixteen hours a day. For years my wife would ask why we couldn't go out to dinner like other people. But I couldn't turn it off. Eventually, I realized that directing simply wasn't healthy for me."
I remember my dad showing me the OT around the time Phantom was dropping and him trying to explain the order that the movies went in nearly broke my 5 year old mind.
In the prequels, yoda says anikin is too old to start training. The fact he personally helps train Luke adds weight to the whole scene knowing years ago he wouldn't even bother.
A great "Who's mans is this" moment from andy staring tim down when he said "it looks like an STD." lmaooo wtf does that even mean? I dont know if that is a slang term on the west coast but east coasters definitely know what it means.
Kind of like the Han and Luke cuddling in the Tauntaun thing... I like pretending that there are Ugnaughts in the carbon freezing chamber where Vader and Luke are fighting and they're reacting to the fight. Every once in a while, maybe it's a trick of the audio, a 'phrase' in the combat will end and someone on set yells, "OH, MAN!!" "DAMN!!"
It would be interesting if we could try them watching these both ways, I mean in release order and number order, story order. I wonder if that would affect anything, or make them see anything differently
I'm sure they considered it at least, but I'd imagine they thought they'd get less negative responses going by release - it'd be interesting, but people would have more problems one way than the other
@@adroX17 I agree, It would be interesting to start with the "not so good ones", maybe they would be less negative after just seeing the old ones in the current order, also using it as a way to rediscover the plot or whatever might have been interesting
The most recent plot twist that blew my mind, not on the same level but similarly to Vader reveal, was in Homecoming when Peter goes to pick up Liz for the dance, the whole theater gasped, it was awesome
Kevin couldn’t be any more wrong. Studio had nothing to do with the production of the sequels. Lucas wanted to build his company while he hired another director to film Empire.
It’s easily the BEST made movie of the franchise, but still my 3rd favorite. RotJ, TLJ, and ESB are top-tier Star Wars in my opinion. ...RotS sits right behind at #4 for me. You can’t go wrong with this franchise. Any one can sit as your favorite and I’d back you 100%
I really think you guys should add “Empire of Dreams” to this Star Wars in review. One of the best movie documentaries ever and soooooo many amazing facts
Empire is great, but it's not the best Star Wars is. That is a complete film, and can be watched singularly. I remember watching Empire at the cinema, and it ends like that....with a 3 year wait for a conclusion that was sadly Return of the Jedi :( people forget so easily how crushed we were all at the time
Yeah, Empire wasn't well received by the masses when it released. It had some folks praising it, but the consensus of it being the best one is a newer thing.
I hope the do a James bond in review in the lead up to No time to die. Maybe they could do one film from each actor to play Bond so they only have to do 6 episodes rather than all 25.
In the new canon comics, Boba Fett is the one to tell Darth Vader it was Luke skywalker that blows up the death star. So in empire strikes back he knows and is just pretending to the emperor that he's just found out its skywalker. Also in between A new hope and empire Luke and Vader have fought each other already.
When you finally get to it, I hope you guys tear Solo apart for being an utter pile of shit. That movie tries SO HARD to ruin this movie. Fuck that garbage.
1. Rogue One 2. Empire Strikes Back 3: A New Hope 4. Return of the Jedi 5. The Force Awakens 6. Revenge of the Sith 7. The Last Jedi 8. Attack of the Clones 9. Solo 10. The Phantom Menace
I feel so bad too, i'm sure he's a great guy but I just don't care about his opinion and he is constantly interjecting into whatever show he's running. Kevin does the same thing, albeit it not as often and not for as long but I love Kevin so it never bothers me.
1. Empire Strikes Back 2. Star Wars 3. The Last Jedi 4. The Force Awakens 5. Return of the Jedi 6. Rogue One 7. Revenge of the Sith 8. Solo 9. The Phantom Menace 10. Attack of the Clones
I'm fascinated by Watto's obsession with speaking into all of the mics.
He knew those mics when they were just small transmitters!
Watto's bit had me in tears. Kevin's reaction of almost deflating was amazing. Andy laughing for 2 minutes afterwards was great. Watto not being able to finish a sentence and slipping into a Brooklyn accent was art.
You get a like simply for the Brooklyn accent being taken as art. LMFAO. I LOVE IT.
When are we gonna get KF tee with Wattos face that says
“HE WAS A SMALL BOY NO BIGGER THAN A PUMPKIN”
39:31 Is the time you want
Every, single, time watto says “small boy” i lose it.
So did he 🤣😂
Nick: “I do Miss Piggy”
.......
Andy: “huh?”.....
Literally crying holding in laughter at work
LOVE THESE LONG PODCASTS
KEEP IT UP
"The force is with you young Skywalker.
I literally am crying from laughter at work because of the Watto bit. 😭😭😂😂
I’m excited for at least 4 more appearances of Watto

I was today years old when I found out that Luke and Han didn’t sleep in the Taun Taun.
Same here friend
JarJar is annoying because he is the center of scenes that have no function but to be silly. C3PO is almost never the point of a scene the way JarJar is.

Watto is my favorite thing! 😭😭😭
You really should do a lord of the rings in review with the recaps by Andy
That would be a one man show 😂
Professor McGonagall - now Watto... this is the hardest I've ever laughed from any Kinda Funny bits or content.
One of the funniest descriptions I've ever heard about the original trilogy:
"Father tries to convince son to take over the family business."
Finally I’ve waited all day for this. Recovering from Achilles surgery. I wanted nothing more than to watch this. Love you guys
Get well soon, bro
Hey real deal, I hope your heel heals with zeal.
I just want a middle earth in review, Everyone will hate it except Andy, but it will be great content
Watto is bringing me to tears everytime. Nothing is funnier than Greg uncontrollably laughing at his own muffled humour! 😂
I'm so glad you guys are doing Star Wars. Been wanting this one since MCU in Review.
39:32 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!
Had my guard up the entire first half hour, because I wasnt sure when/if Watto was coming
Lmfao at 44:30 don’t know how many ppl caught the shot at poor Portillo! Lmfao!!!! Nice one Nick!
This is great! Oh my god, Kinda Funny's in Review just keeps getting better. Nick does a great job recapping the movie. Until Nick explained that, I thought Han and Luke slept in the tan tan... mind blown and I’m a grown ass man
Dude I had so many Star Wars legos when I was a kid.
Oh also the jedi starfighter and cloud car
37:50
It's where he keeps Jar Jar.
I tried taking a sip of my Modelo when Watto came in and it went under my shirt. It's the funniest shit.
Greg needs to cameo in character for every KF show he isnt in because these are far too good
They love that the Bounty Hunters just exist and don't do anything but I bet they're gonna hate the Knights of Ren just existing in the sequel trilogy.
"I think Kermit was someone else" Jesus, Nick.
“Do or do not” doesn’t mean “Don’t try, just do it.” It means “You will Succeed or Fail”. Which is amazing considering Yoda is saying “You can fail as equally as you succeed.”
This is something that always bugs me. People are like "That's terrible advice!" but it's not advice. It's fact.
Barrett let Tim do his job and just chill
@kevin Lucas was the owner of Lucas arts at the time and picked his own directors. It's a common misconception that studio interference made him give up directing witch is weird as he paid for the movie himself. Star wars was an indy project.

rewatching these for the third time and watto never fails to kill me
Han Solo's a captain in ESB, probably an unofficial rank because he's the captain of his own ship. It's ROTJ where he suddenly becomes a general.
You need legged transport for navigating complicated terrain. Thats why they make those robo killer-dogs nowadays.
A great "Who's mans is this" moment from andy staring tim down when he said "it looks like an STD." lmaooo wtf does that even mean? I dont know if that is a slang term on the west coast but east coasters definitely know what it means.

Random poll: do you say "at-at" or "A-T-A-T"... I say "at-at" and I remember colin used to say it that way as well, maybe it's an east coast thing.
a-t-a-t personally. I'm midwest. Chicago actually
A-T-A-T. I'm Australian.
I’m from the east coast , I call it A-T-AT.
“There’s no mcguffin... it’s just about the characters and the character development...” Sounds a lot like........... The Last Jedi.
Tyler Robertson this guy gets it
It would be interesting if we could try them watching these both ways, I mean in release order and number order, story order. I wonder if that would affect anything, or make them see anything differently

This is actually the funniest movie of the entire saga, IMO. The jokes between Han and Threepio is "golden".
Been waiting for this.
So many goddamn ads
im nervous about your TLJ review. Please dont hate it :(
Will the intro music change with the prequel reviews? Doesn't matter just curious...
wasnt Han a Captain , thought some due called him Captain Solo
I come to the reviews to support KF, to laugh at the jokes. And of course the character interruption bits 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Leia being his sister was a last minute addition, so there would be no unresolved love triangle. It was pretty stupid regardless.
3 . 3 years have passed since hope Jedi is 1 year KAMPAI!
Not only the best Star Wars movie but one of the best movies ever in general imo.
"We'll be fine, as long as they don't have any giant robot camels"
Kevin couldn’t be any more wrong. Studio had nothing to do with the production of the sequels. Lucas wanted to build his company while he hired another director to film Empire.
Best movie in the franchise hands down
Please have Watto on every episode.
"You can't use that word! Only we can use that word!"
I can't wait for the TLJ review 😈
Love having Bruce in the office
It’s easily the BEST made movie of the franchise, but still my 3rd favorite. RotJ, TLJ, and ESB are top-tier Star Wars in my opinion.
...RotS sits right behind at #4 for me. You can’t go wrong with this franchise. Any one can sit as your favorite and I’d back you 100%
Michael Cutts my man! RotS is also my #4 😁
Greg’s Watto sounds like the fuckin Zohan
Why doesn't Greg do these reviews? Is the force too strong in Watto?
This is the best star wars film.
Nick needs a hydroflask cup. that ice is ruining that cool and crisp Diet Coke
2. The Empire Strikes Back
1. A New Hope
Kaleb Koho uhm no
Yep, those are the two SW films I return to again and again. The others range from mediocre to bad.
Honestly, shoulda kept the prof mcgonagall bit going :D
So good. So so good
Civil War reverse engineered the Empire moment and succeeded in making it fucking awesome.
I really think you guys should add “Empire of Dreams” to this Star Wars in review. One of the best movie documentaries ever and soooooo many amazing facts
The budget went up to $30 million.
Hey guys Lukes ego is the villain!!!
1:15:40 - Who the FUCK is talking?
Hm. Interesting. I disagree completely.
The only context it needs is, "What have you done to my ship?"
What!!!!? They did not climb inside the ton ton. Fucksake, my whole life is a lie.
Empire is great, but it's not the best Star Wars is. That is a complete film, and can be watched singularly. Yeah, Empire wasn't well received by the masses when it released. It had some folks praising it, but the consensus of it being the best one is a newer thing.
Use Roman numerals in that video title, heathens.
I love you Barrett
I hope the do a James bond in review in the lead up to No time to die. Maybe they could do one film from each actor to play Bond so they only have to do 6 episodes rather than all 25.
They would most likely only review the Daniel Craig movies.
such bullshit when people say they have memories fro mwhen they were 3 years old lol theyre called false memories

Fuck that garbage.
Kevin is 100% C3PO
1. Rogue One
2. Empire Strikes Back
3: A New Hope
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Force Awakens
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. The Last Jedi
8. Attack of the Clones
9. Solo
10. The Phantom Menace
I’m just gonna say it... am I the only who detest Barrett? Loved this episode though, can’t wait for the prequels 😂
I feel so bad too, i'm sure he's a great guy but I just don't care about his opinion and he is constantly interjecting into whatever show he's running. Kevin does the same thing, albeit it not as often and not for as long but I love Kevin so it never bothers me.
Element I feel the exact same.. and you can tell Andy doesn’t like him the most and it’s hilarious to me.
Exos and they’re roommates lol
Well.. I'm not going to pretend to know how the guys feel lol. I'm only entitled to my opinion.
Element true true
Vader means Father in Dutch so the reveal was pretty obvious.
Because everyone knows dutch
There’s The Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One. Best. Star Wars. Movies. Ever.
Tim losing weight? Looking good Mr Getty.
I’m just glad they spoke English long ago in a galaxy far far away. Could be we didn’t invent English at all, but they did.
"Vader in German means father, his name is literally Darth Father"
jesus there are a LOT of adverts in these
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars
3. The Last Jedi
4. The Force Awakens
5. Return of the Jedi
