I hiked up this route 2 days ago and it was hard, very steep in parts and at 53 with osteoarthritis in freezing conditions. Was so close to helvellyn then i slipped on the icy snow and twisted my knee 😢 i was gutted and had to hobble back down in absolute agony. (Thank god for my hiking poles and brilliant daughter) Couldn't believe I'd made it so far to have to go back. The whole hike was still worth every agonising step down though but...I'll be back💪😆 next year in fairer weather.
