    Played by the Orchestre National de France under the direction of Lorin Maazel.
    The main melody is used as sort of a chorus in the song 'Russians' by Sting.

      Así es, Sting sobre el "Romance", compuso la antibelicista RUSSIANS ¿acaso no aman a sus niños e hijos?
      Parece muy claro que no. Sólo para mandarlos a matar y morir, constantemente desde 1917.
      Muy triste y bárbaro pueblo ávido de crimen y sangre.

    This is film music people. And Prokofiev invented the modern soundtrack genre. He doesn't have a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Stravinsky does and so does Leonard Bernstein. I think Sergei who gave us this very magical and theatrical style of film music deserves a star. Besides he wrote this before any of the Hollywood composers were household names.

    • @buskov

      Kamarad Prokofiev doesn't care for a star in hollywood

    • @marcparella
      @marcparella 8 лет назад +13

      +buskov: Sure he does. Prokofiev bought a car in Hollywood and was fascinated with the place. Besides Stravinsky has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he contributed nothing to film music.

    • @harryhaller42
      @harryhaller42 8 лет назад +8

      +Marc Parella He didn't invent the modern soundtrack, not as much as De Bussy or any other musician from the 19th. he 'just' was a great composer. it's the other way around : contemporary composers (Zimmer, Horner ...) got inspired by classical music.

    • @vanmoody
      @vanmoody 7 лет назад +1

      I really think a lot of the classical composers would be doing music for movies. Back in their day they had to get funding from some King or Nobleman. Today they could just work in the free market.

    His father, Sergei Alexeyevich Prokofiev, was an agronomist from a mercantile family in Moscow. Prokofiev's mother, Maria (née Zhitkova), came from a Saint Petersburg[12] family of former serfs who had been owned by the Sheremetev family, under whose patronage serf-children were taught theatre and arts from an early age

    Not only cinema music but this exquisite piece made it as a musical quotation in Sting's "Russians" from his first solo album in 1985. It's used most effectively, too. I hope it's brought a few people from that world to hear the whole Suite.
    Speaking of John Williams, whose talent is considerable, his famous march from Star Wars is very much influenced by the march from The Love for Three Oranges, to give one example.
