Iv been listening to them for years. Iv been through a prison sentence with their music in my head to get me through. It's more than a youtube video to me. They are one of those groups that really pull on your heart strings. I thought they broke up but I guess they changed they're name to watchouse. Thank you for still making good music.
Stopping by to say Thanks for over 1M views! Watchhouse (formerly Mandolin Orange) may hold the record for most Pickathon performances. They definitely hold the record for jaw-droppin, you was walkin' by but now you're stoppin', fan-makin' jams on the farm.
@@Jackofallthetrades Hi Jack, if its the same guitar that Andrew sometimes plays, he made it with luthier in Asheville. There's a discussion about it on youtube video of theirs where they play some show called audiotree live.
What I love about this performance - and there are so many things - is the restraint and sensitivity of the playing and the vocals. Together they manage to capture perfectly that feeling of waking up slowly on a sunny morning with someone you love - warm, relaxed, still slightly sleepy, but feeling that everything is okay and will always be okay. Emilee Booher's camerawork is part of this - their faces coming into and out of focus creates a visual rhythm that complements the musical one and adds to the dreamlike quality. These people have an intimate understanding of the power of music, and we need more like them. Thank you so much - I needed this.
Not just him. Understated and subtle. That is the difference between a work of art and hacks. These two and the people that play with them are masterful.
What a brilliantly photogenic couple, among their many other amazing qualities individually and together. My heart sings Mandolin Orange. And the pair of them, specifically hear, then, 9 years ago, are so so very beautiful and young and (perceivably) in love, it melts my little cold heart. Look at their Golden Rosy Cheeks-I could be wrong, in hindsight it always comes out; but I dont think so and hope not, they look so in love with them selves, firstly and most importantly, then, also too, with each other, and sharing that with the world so sincerely. Thank you Mandolin Orange for sharing your treasures with us all it shines so brightly in this world.
crispycritter said: "THIS is a duo that reaches back to the best of who we are as a culture with all our wounds to bare- a fearless and innocent sound that carries far beyond thier country a universal sound beyond Americana" -- which is so freakin true! These guys are wonderful! And Emily is so beautiful it makes me cry! Check out the full concert... amazing. And the new CD, 'Such Jubilee'!
Mandolin Orange is well within the pantheon of just 'incredibly talented songwriters and musicians' working their utterly brilliant craft, embedding folk music deep into our collective heart and soul for past, present and subsequent generations; precisely what folk music does best! The melodies and lyrics are instant classics, simply timeless, makes me feel like I've known these tunes all my life. It feels like home. What a remarkable effect this is. You've raised the bar substantially. I'm so grateful to you for sharing your gift to the world. We are truly all the better for it.
Love these two, they heal my heart, restore my faith, Emily Franz could melt an icy glacier of a heart, most spectacular eyes I have ever seen, what a gorgeous young lady. Love this band so much.
Grew up listening to GNR. My grandpa used to sit me on his knee and play you are my sunshine and the crawdad song. This song for some reason brings me back to that moment. Wow how I miss him. Eternally grateful for the musical taste he instilled in me. This song brings me back. Thank you!
Like a rock that came rolling down the hill I've been searching for something to kill I'm shameless And I've aimlessly drawn I wanna lay down somewhere I wanna close my eyes I've a good girl waiting If I ain't back soon, she may be gone Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same It's enough to hold her close But I'm in need of pleasant dreams So I cried to the doctor Doctor, please come quick My world's grown tired and sick If it ain't fixed, I fear it may fall I wanna lay down somewhere Lay down and die Well, the Doc just smiled and said in a good while Son, sometimes don't we all Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same It's enough to hold her close But I'm in need of pleasant dreams Won't you wake me In the morning light Wake me When the morning comes I ran outside and shout So loud it shook the earth So loud it chilled the air and cleared the sky I wanna lay down somewhere Down by her side And I've been going too long to crawl back now And crumble in her eyes I see a lock and a key and clock on the wall And I swear I hear her singin' The air smells sweet And I do think there's coffee in it I wanna lay down somewhere As long as time abides And with that morning sky above We can share our love with sleep still in our eyes Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same It's enough to hold her close But I'm in need of pleasant dreams Wake me In the morning light Wake me When the morning comes Wake me In the morning light Wake me When the morning comes Hmmm, mmm, mmm, hmmm, mmm, mmm...
This should have won a few awards in the music video category of whatever awards that were given. The audio recording is amazing. The cinematography is phenomenal.
This song is so beautiful, the lyrics and the music. The musicians too, it's all just perfect. Gives me solid hope and a surety that everything's gonna be alright, is already, and always will be. Wow, thank you Mandolin Orange. Best wishes to you both.
I started playin' this song while driving from Texas to California and I seem to keep playing it everyday. Beautifu - beautiful - beautiful - the harmony and lyrics are just awesome.
Physical beauty mean nothing when you can feel the surreality of their music..their coordination...the rhythm of the guitar with the quiverings of mandolin..the way their voices melt just like at that point when the solidness of the glacier gives complete way to a river...and lastly the emotions of eloquence and poetry and charm and dreaminess that in invokes in us, the listeners. This song is beautiful indeed. They are beautiful indeed but not for the reasons the comment section usually mentions.
These guys sound so good, especially with headphones on... the strumming and the vocals! Gorgeous! Yes thank you Mandolin Orange for making and sharing the sweet music!
When the end of the world as we know it, is on the precipice of reality, I sit here with my jack and my joint, playing this song as it echoes off the rocks of the Ozarks. Bring it on.
Their music is incredible...but it is difficult to get past her perfect beauty to discuss anything else; and her voice is in such perfect compliment to his. I love these guys...listening and watching!
listened to these guys on the radio on the way back from west va it was such a help when getting home tired of the road. the whole thing was live from charlotte every song was fantastic i had it jacked the whole way.
Just listened/watched Wake Me for the first time. Just love your chemistry and your arrangement skills. Could listen to you 24 hours, 7 days a week. 👌💛
thank you for this gentle beautiful music, this poetry. this is far and away the best version of this song i've heard. you make it sound so easy here but beauty is so difficult even you can't reproduce the musical magic that happened here.
I found this song 3 months ago I play it every day sometimes many times.Great job this is definitely y'all's song I don't see how anybody could do it better .God bless
Beautiful singing and playing on this one just like every other one by mandolin orange I have ever heard. Stay well and God bless everybody from Patrick
Man, those eyes. Blue-green? Sea-green? Grey? I have no idea what the right word is, but they're amazingly beautiful. I know I was listening to the music. I swear I was. But ... those eyes. Man ...
Y’all are absolutely amazing! I will never get enough…. Wish you would have kept the brilliant name, Mandolin Orange, but beggars can’t be choosers. Please continue to put out your amazing music 🎶
Hi, love this tune and all of your others, U tube put me here two days ago and iv'e done little else but listen to all of your songs when not at work. Reminds me of a time before, when people had honour and respect for each other. Not like now when everyone is looking for an excuse to put others down or themselves ubove others. Thanks guys for your beautiful music.
Andrew is a song writer - wow! Together they make a great sound. And whomever shot this knew what they were doing; soft colors and perfect lighting that makes those blue eyes STANDOUT!
To me, this song draws feelings of solace and redemption in the one you love. I misheard the lyrics for a while thinking 'if it's all the same' was 'it's all the same' which although isn't what they wrote, always makes me think of a time when I was depressed and feeling like everything was really all the same and during that time I pushed away the one I loved. That's what the song was about to me at that time but now I know the true lyrics I will use them for inspiration in a new love, 'if it's all the same, it's enough to hold her close'. I listen to this song now and I hear - you're not perfect but you don't have to push away, remember that holding your lover close is enough.
what talent. when to see them in Madison the audience was jaw droping amazed by there songs. best ive seen for a duo.. when they return ill be there , go see them amazing talent ED..
I got to say i past this video so many times. Finally i kliked on it .im so glad i did you guys are a grate teem sound grate together realy liked the tune .......
I love the moving camera. Also, the way the camera gets close--it's so interesting to see the male singer's beard growth. I mean, why should the camera stay still, stay far enough away so we can see both musicians and watch them sing and play their instruments? Oh, no--move that camera! And get it real close--it's so good to cut off arms, legs, bodies.
Iv been listening to them for years. Iv been through a prison sentence with their music in my head to get me through. It's more than a youtube video to me. They are one of those groups that really pull on your heart strings. I thought they broke up but I guess they changed they're name to watchouse. Thank you for still making good music.
Glad you made it through your prison sentence
Yer, they're great.
I know what you mean buddy - best of luck to you for the future bro
Tim, we are kindred spirits
Couldn’t imagine doing prison time

What is the make/model of guitar she is playing, please?
@@Jackofallthetrades Hi Jack, if its the same guitar that Andrew sometimes plays, he made it with luthier in Asheville. There's a discussion about it on youtube video of theirs where they play some show called audiotree live.
The camera person, Emilee Booher is the unsung star here. Fantastic job. One continuous shot with one camera. The emotion captured is palpable!
And the female singer is delicious , i would run away with her.
PERFECT!!!!
Been listening to this song for about a year now. I genuinely believe this is a top 5 song of all time in any genera.
So good
I completely agree

Such an amazing duo. One of the best live shows around right now. 🙌
Whenever, wherever I need a break from the BS of life I just find me some Mandolin Orange...so refreshing.
Sometimes various threads of life come together and weave the most amazing tapestry. This could hang in a museum.
Andrews skill on that mandolin is so underplayed, his riffs are freaking spot-on
Not just him. Understated and subtle. That is the difference between a work of art and hacks. These two and the people that play with them are masterful.
that's the beauty within music. always have them wanting more
10 years have flown by since these kids did this beauty
Somehow old Mandolin Orange videos give me the nostalgic feeling more than anything else.

A back-hills sound, lays aside anything unnecessary, wakes up healthy things within me, and others too I expect.
Swede McGuire you sir r a good writer.
Well said.
Perfectly described
Well said. Truly well said.
Words of a wise man..
I melt away when I see Emily and hear her sing ; she is very special ! ♥
i do think this is the best Mandolin Orange session on the 'tube. and it absolutely holds up 8-9 years later.
such beautiful harmonies
Making music like this is what life is for.

Husband has just made me a mandolin. Great song to play along to. Gorgeous.... thank you
Keep coming back for the sweet mando and those eye flashes 🌶
Her eyes are ridiculously beautiful
They are heaven incarnate.
Like a rock that came rolling down the hill
I've been searching for something to kill
I'm shameless
And I've aimlessly drawn
I wanna lay down somewhere
I wanna close my eyes
I've a good girl waiting
If I ain't back soon, she may be gone
Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same
It's enough to hold her close
But I'm in need of pleasant dreams
So I cried to the doctor
Doctor, please come quick
My world's grown tired and sick
If it ain't fixed, I fear it may fall
I wanna lay down somewhere
Lay down and die
Well, the Doc just smiled and said in a good while
Son, sometimes don't we all
Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same
It's enough to hold her close
But I'm in need of pleasant dreams
Won't you wake me
In the morning light
Wake me
When the morning comes
I ran outside and shout
So loud it shook the earth
So loud it chilled the air and cleared the sky
I wanna lay down somewhere
Down by her side
And I've been going too long to crawl back now
And crumble in her eyes
I see a lock and a key and clock on the wall
And I swear I hear her singin'
The air smells sweet
And I do think there's coffee in it
I wanna lay down somewhere
As long as time abides
And with that morning sky above
We can share our love with sleep still in our eyes
Hmm, mmm, mmm, it's all the same
It's enough to hold her close
But I'm in need of pleasant dreams
Wake me
In the morning light
Wake me
When the morning comes
Wake me
In the morning light
Wake me
When the morning comes
Hmmm, mmm, mmm, hmmm, mmm, mmm...

Boots of Spanish Leather never sounded better.
