Short powerful thunderstorm with nice strike on August 19, 2017

After some thunder and lightning the night before, continuing shortly after midnight, I don't really give the forecast 'Some thunderstorms at night' much thought.
That changes when a loud clap of thunder surprises me around 5:20 AM. With a head still in sleep-mode I decide to first partially open the curtains and turn my PC on instead of getting the camera first.
Eventually I do get the camera and open the curtains.
I wanted to have an extra microphone near an open window but in this rare instance, rain is hitting both my big window as the window at the side of the house. Eventually the wind dies down and I can open it.
While the camera is already running, I make sure that I place the mic near the opened window.
About 2 minutes later, a nice strike hits. You can hear the sound fade from the camera-mic (mono) to the external mic connected to the Tascam.
I can't really tell how close this one was in this instance. My best guess is within 150 to 300 meter, but it's hard to check because the radio in this case was next to the camera-mic, which hardly noticed the thunderclap. The mic at the window did not hear the radio at all.

Amper 2 seconden tussen inslag en donder. Die was dus hooguit 600 meter van je vandaan. Toch een mooie vangst

Het zou best kunnen dat het daar wel degelijk gerommeld heeft: het complex waar dit materiaal van is was bijna zo groot als de provincie Noord Holland.
