    Lived in NC for 17 years. Happy to be in WA. 😉 Happiness is a state of mind, not a place. I know you will enjoy the change.

    I didn't think I would like it out that way but it is beautiful. And a lot of history to see you will love it. You will also love the drive. A lot to see and experience.

      I didn't think I would like it enough to move there either, to be honest! I always thought of the East Coast as being so flat and densely populated, but the Appalachian Mountain area is just spectacular. And Asheville is this little pocket of hippie happiness

    I live in the Bay Area too and am lucky enough to have a job I like that allows me to pay rent, but like so many others I’d definitely consider moving away. This part of the world is amazing but hearing how friends in other parts of the country can literally afford to rent a huge house for what I’m paying for a one bedroom with no dishwasher or washing machine in the building feels pretty ridiculous. I hope you enjoy your new city and look forward to seeing your vlogs!!

      If you have the motivation to live in the Bay Area, it sounds worth it to me :) But I do understand that feeling when someone you meet from Arkansas tell you how they paid 185k for their 2 story, brand new house and your jaw just drops. I'll miss the diversity and AMAZING food here in the Bay!

    Can’t wait to see your take on the East Coast! I’ve heard nothing but great things about Asheville from friends stationed in and around there. Plus I can attest to how breathtaking those mountains are

      I'm excited to make videos I had trouble finding when I was trying to make my decision about moving to Asheville! There aren't a ton of West Coasters willing to move out to Western NC haha :) Glad to hear you've heard good things as well.

      OG Fearless Fam members have a sixth sense!!! Thank you :) It's going to be quite the culture shock, but all within the US, so it's a really exciting adventure.

    OMG! My sister-in-law lives in Asheville and adores it. It’s such a magical place. You’re going to love it! I adore SF but we’ve thought of moving there several times and money always stopped us. Sigh. Oh and where is your hubs from? We lived in Wilmington NC for about a decade. If you want to sound local, say App-uh-LATCH-ah. Not Appa-LAYSH-ah. Can’t wait to following your new adventure! xoxo

    When you made your video about the plusses and minuses of living in the Bay Area, I got the impression that you will leave it eventually. Incidentally, you were so accurate in all your assessments in the video it felt like I wrote the script. All the best on your future. You made a good decision.

    Asheville is such a great area! I actually moved to Raleigh from Asheville a few years ago and go back every chance I get to play in the mountains for a few days! I hope you love it as much as I do!! Hopefully you’ll have a meet up or something when you get there. :)

    There’s been a mass exodus from the Bay Area going on now for years. With interest rates going up, I’m sure it will accelerate.
    Higher rates 👉🏼 things get more expensive. Oh and they’re also raising the bridge tolls.. All we need now is for gas prices to go up and I’m sure Bay Area traffic will decrease due to more people leaving...

    I'm happy for you, and at the same time I'm sad for the Bay Area. I've lived here all my life, and now I'm seeing it hollowed out by current economic reality. Fewer and fewer people can afford to live here, and when people leave, we lose the soul of the place.
    As for a video to make before you leave, I once suggested that you go to Berkeley Bowl and Monterey Market (and the shops surrounding it). I only hope that visiting places like this just before you leave isn't too bittersweet.

    • @LaurenWithoutFear
      @LaurenWithoutFear  6 лет назад

      Its definitely sad to see people move away just because of cost. The Bay is a crazy, crazy place. I will certainly miss the diversity, the variety of food, the random conversations with strangers on MUNI, and exploring San Francisco - one of my favorite cities in the world. Thanks for the video suggestions! I'll see if I can make my way out there. Sounds like they're both little independently owned grocery stores. Do they have prepared foods for a taste test by chance? ;)

    • @Jeff_Lichtman
      @Jeff_Lichtman 6 лет назад

      Monterey Market is a small independent market that mostly sells produce. Within half a block there's also Magnani's Poultry ( which does sell prepared food), Raxahoul Coffee and Cheese (also known as Country Cheese), Monterey Fish Market, Hopkins Street Bakery, and Gioia Pizzeria.
      Berkeley Bowl has two branches, but I wouldn't call either small. They have a huge produce section, a butcher and fish counter, and a deli counter. Berkeley Bowl West (their second store) also has a restaurant. Of the two branches, Berkeley Bowl West would be easier to get to from Hayward, and has much better parking than the original Berkeley Bowl.
      BTW, it's called "Berkeley Bowl" because the original location had been a bowling alley.
      Both Monterey Market and Berkeley Bowl are noted for the outstanding quality and variety of products they sell. As an example, both sell dry-farmed Early Girl tomatoes, which have better flavor than any tomatoes you can get at a conventional grocery store (better even than many tomatoes sold at farmers' markets). Both sell wild mushrooms, including exotic things like morels. Monterey Market sells a variety of melon called "ha ogen" that I've never seen anywhere else. Both are great places for anyone who's interested in food.

    We use to live in Oakboro North Carolina & we didn’t really like it since we have kids there wasn’t much to do for our kids(2&5) but we also didn’t know anyone but my brother in law. At least u guys have a bit more family than we did. Lol!

      That would be awesome! Are you in Asheville or nearby? Also did you guess we were falling in love with Asheville from my IG posts? Haha!! I have so many questions.... are people going to be weirded out when someone says Appalachia like that with a west coast accent? My husband is from Maryland and folks in NC says he "pronounces it like a Northerner" XD

      Girl, I feel you! It's crazy here. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have family here (AKA motivation to stay in the area) but also try to become financially independent.
