It was brought down by our father Adam peace be upon him when he descended from heaven, so its a stone from heaven, and when it came down it was a brilliant white, but over time it became black because of the sins of the people.
It was inserted into the Kaaba by Abraham peace be upon him, when he built it.
As for the kissing of the stone, the Caliph Umar was seen kissing it, and the others asked him why?
He said that he saw the Prophet kissing it, and since the companions respected the Prophet so much they did as he did.
We don't under any circumstances believe that the stone has some special powers of its own or that it forgives the sins.
