Yup , I would not even consider such solution few years back , but since June my rent went from 580€ to 820€ and 100% is power bill fault , I use PC with 500w PSU 2 screens , and that can draw some power , but I play older/mmo games like wows so that kind of PC could be what I need .

Something to consider for a future comparison video. The upcoming Ryzen 8700G has the same 780M graphics onboard, but arguably with desktop cooling and power delivery you might be able to get a little more, or at least very consistent performance out of it. Something like an entry level 8700G build vs a second hand AM4 system with a ~1650 in it for example could be quite a matchup :)

I think it has to be stated. Consistency is very important when measuring framerate. It seems in the games tested, the 1050ti is consistent more of the time, especially in older games. Hmm... Onboard graphics solutions are getting better and better though. I wonder if motherboards will ever get slots for GDDR variants of RAM rather than DDR (Probably not).

According to my calculations the 780m is pretty bandwidth starved in this configuration. I'm planning on getting the AM5 version once it releases and combining it with as high speed DDR5 memory as I can. That will probably even out the percentile lows. But even then the memory bandwidth will likely remain the limiting factor.

    • @FFXfever
      @FFXfever 7 месяцев назад

Yeah, the 780m isn't much faster compared to 680m due to bandwidth. At 7600mt, it's only 10% faster, even though rdna 4 should be a huge leap. So the 780m is likely to be held back by ram.

It's the power budget causing those low 1% and 0.1%s. The processor has to share its power budget with the IGPU so they compete for it in demanding games. Using a discrete GPU allows the CPU to stretch its legs a little more, and since the GPU is powered separately it can also reach its maximum potential.

Damn! Years back on board graphic was considered rather as display adapter than graphic card... Today, iGPU can actually run games, even AAA titles, with certain sacrifices. Also, contrary to GTA IV, GTA V is amazingly optimised on PC!

By the time we reach that level of performance at just 40-60w (because you dont want 120-150w in a tiny space do you), 6700xt will barely handle 1080p. That's how technology works.

I was going to suggest a comparison video for the channel... run a shoot-out between various CPU's that have integrated graphics and then slap a variety of "old gold" LP graphics cards in them as per the classic method of shoving a Quadro K620 in some old i3 Optiplex as a way of getting it just about playable... but for any given landmark processor how high up the GPU tree do you need to go or is even worth it for the performance, K620's are pretty much e-waste these days, but my aging AMD X4 860K is rocking one in a tiny SFF case in my office and can cheerfully handle running Dredge at 1440p....

The 1050 Ti was my first proper gaming GPU. It was never amazing, but it was enough to begin my transition from a 8-and-16-bit-era console gamer to a PC gamer. Cool that integrated graphics are finally starting to match it.

What about a 470/570 comparison vs the 780M? I think that would be more fair since they are both AMD and a little more powerful than the 1050ti after these fine wine years.

Compared to the rx 570 the 780m is less powerful. At least from what a user said in a forums since he had a mini pc with this gpu and a 570 gpu

AMD APUs have always been good as far back as I can remember. AMD rules the mini PC market and even the new PC handheld market. Intel just have never really had a good APU that could go up against AMD. If AMD ever make something like the intel N100 they would be pushed out of the mini PC market all together.

Just few years ago you could say that an iGPU was more or less just a display adapter. Now those can actually play AAA games more or less fine.

Could you also try it out with older games?
In the past I was already doing high-ultra on DOOM 2016 with a 1050ti at 1080p and still getting lotsa FPS.
Testing out older games (without going as far back as Team Fortress 2, even if 240FPS stable is still difficult to reach) would still be cool AND useful because many great games of the past decade are now pretty easy to run.

That's not a bad mini PC at all, for the size of the unit performance is surprisingly good.
I remember when integrated graphics came in the form of the Intel HD4400 and Intel HD4600, both from the 4th gen Intel series, and both rather lacklustre to say the least even compared to something like a 2GB 960 or a 4GB 1050Ti.
The 1050Ti is a nice performer for games like GTA 5 but I've never seen 100+FPS out of it with my HP OMEN 15 laptop, and I think that was either high or very high settings.
Also, how do you manage to get GTA 5 to show more than 60fps, as mine is locked to 60?

Should put Return to Moria in the bench test lineups, I got it running 1440p high/very high and it looks astonishing esp when you get into the mines themselves which are freakin' huge. One thing to remember in the mines is careful on the ledges, I fell off a ledge onto a sticky out bit of planking between floor and fall point and I lost a ton of quest items as I simply cannot get back to the planky bit even with quick build platforms or a staircase or a rope ladder :(

At the moment the 780M is really good for handheld PCs, especially indie games. For AAA you have to lower resolution still to get ~60fps but on a smaller screen the tradeoff is acceptable. Next gen APU will be really interesting

Really the main issue with IGPs has to be memory bandwidth given how constrained it is with system RAM. The original Xbox One used DDR3 shared by system and video memory but they used some sort of cache to make up for the deficit afaik.
