  • In this video I talk about the Soonwell PD100W, a smart D-TAP/USB-C adapter that turns all your batteries in a 100W powerhouse.
    Although some v-mount and gold mount batteries have USB ports, they typically max out around 40-60 watts of output, while a lot of newer gear requires 65 watts or more.
    The Soonwell PD100W converts D-TAP power on any battery into a 100 watt USB-C source so you can power things like higher-end lights, power-hungry laptops, and more.
    Even better, it's bidirectional, so you can ditch your bulky v-mount chargers and use this to recharge your v-mount batteries instead.
    The PD100W has tons of use-cases, so watch the whole video and let me know how you would use it.

    Do you have any gear that would benefit from having this?

      You're right, it isn't cheap, but relative to the other options, it's a least much less expensive. V-mounts themselves cost a whole lot more, and this can also replace a v-mount charger. Plus, I don't know of ANY v-mount that can output more than 65 watts via USB, and that's super rare. I can, however, name a ton of items that require 65, 80, or even more watts to run properly, so it opens up an entirely new avenue of power.

    Very cool. I was looking for 100w output power bank at amazon and bought one. But find out it can not last over half hour for my led. And I was thinking why there is no dtap to usbc that can simply do it. And finally find this product.

      Glad you found my video! I had the same issues. It's hard to find something compact that can handle 100W and work for 1-2 hours. It's like you either get a tiny power bank or a huge power station and nothing good in between.

    This is a great find!
    Do you think the Soonwell would power the Zhiyun Molus 100W at 100% for as long as the v mount battery has power?
    The Zhiuyn battery lasts about 30mins at 100%. I have tried 2 power banks that should work (Imuto and Ugreen) but they seem to shut off after 15 mins or so.
    Do you think the Soonwell with a vmout would work?
    Thanks for all your videos, I always look forward to seeing them!

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  8 месяцев назад

      That setup should work just fine. Is what you tried shutting off because they simply run out of power, or another reason? 100W is a LOT for small power banks, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't last long at all.
      Even a 100Wh v-mount with the Soonwell PD100W would only last ~40 minutes or so at 100% brightness due to things like efficiency loss, fans and other electronics drawing power, etc.

    I have a 100w USB C charger than I’m using to charge my SmallRig 99 V Mount battery. Is the 100w USB C charger too powerful for the V Mount battery? Do you think it will damage it? Thanks again 🎉

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  10 месяцев назад +1

      No, this has protections built-in to properly convert and match voltage/amperage on both ends, so it will not damage any batteries or peripherals!

    • @gingersnaps7186

      @@NewLayer thanks for your response. Do you mean the small rig v mount battery has built in voltage protection?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  10 месяцев назад

      @@gingersnaps7186 The battery might, but I'm saying the PD100W has the protections built in, and on both the D-Tap and USB-C sides. It auto-detects and converts voltage and amperage on both sides at all time!
