Today we’re going to talk about how to get rid of the hiccups. A hiccup is a problem with the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a muscle that helps you breathe. It contracts and relaxes. What happens with a hiccup is you’re getting an intermittent involuntary contraction.
A few triggers of the hiccups:
    • Excitement
    • Fear
    • Laughter
    • Eating too fast
A few ways to stop the hiccups:
    1. Hiccup on purpose
    2. Slow your breathing
    3. Drink water from the opposite side
    4. Calm down and relax

For most people, hiccups usually last a few minutes and are not a medical concern. However, if your hiccups last longer than two days, they're considered chronic. They're also referred to as persistent if they last over two days, but end within one month.👍

I've used this for a long time now and it has always worked:
My cure for hiccups: (Seems weird but really does work)
Sit down first. Immediately after a hiccup, take a very deep breath and then plug
your ears with your fingers. Hold that breath for as long as you possibly can.
I kid you not it works. I've been doing this for nearly 8 years with success.
    It's an American Indian trick.
It never disappoints. Sometimes you have to do it twice (wait about a minute then try again)

I used to drink from the opposite side of a glass, but it didn’t always work. Now I do this: (it’s from Pinterest, but it works)
    1. Exhale completely.
    2. Inhale as much as you can, and hold your breath.
    3. While holding your breath, tilt your head back as far as it goes.
    4. Hold your breath as long as you can in that position.
    5. Exhale.

I'll tell you what has always worked for me: I take a very deep breath and hold it for a long time - half a minute or longer. Breath out all the way and do the same thing again. Keep doing this several times and the hiccups eventually stop.

About 40 yrs ago when I was maybe 12 yrs old I learned that hiccups was the diaphragm and stomach getting out of sync. The article said that there was no cure. Even at that age I knew the body can heal itself. Me thinking just put the stomach and diaphragm back in sync. So I hold my breath, push in and down on my stomach while slowly exhaling. no more hiccups. I've showed many people this method and it has worked for every one of them.

You asked so here I go! I go to the person with hiccups and and ask politely if I may hold their hand. Then if they agree to hold hands I ask them to focus on looking into my eyes. I make a caring look into their eyes and only after a few seconds of calming interaction the hiccups disappear. This technique works for me 100% of the time if the person agrees with holding hands and sharing eye contact.
