Totally agree its sung from the heart so very beautifully by Edi,,,,all the other folk who cannot appreciate her soulful rendition must surely be tone deaf!
What a beautiful rendition, of such a heartfelt song tis totally original to u now 😘 I just love this wee song holds a special place in my heart ♥️ come back to Scotland Eddie please, missed u last time. Yours aye
I don't think it was unrequited love though, I think that both of them.loved eachother but she was married and divorce wasn't common then. I did some reading about this because the song is so beautifully sung by Eddi. Unfortunately, "Nancy" didn't have a happy marriage. It's unfortunate, but common at the time.
Eddi does a braw job of this Burns Classic but she does not truly present the richt Scots way of his words.. Eddi, I love your work, it is so easy for you to do it properly. Your gaun Tae be a Lang time deed. Leave us your best.
She distorts the flow of the song, loses the impetus of the lines and splits sense groups as she chooses. I know she has had a great success with her versions of Burns, but for me all the poignant simplicity of this very great song is lost and in fact she destroys it. It's a wilful approach. I have no idea whether Burns would have liked it or not, but though the tune she uses has bcecome very popular, he might have preferred to hear the one he chose, 'Rory Dall's Port', which is sung with direct and fetching simplicity by Mae McKenna on the 13-CD Linn set of all the songs.
On behalf of the Bard can I say that Eddi did this auld sang mair than justice. She captured the sadness in his he'rt when thinkin' on Nancy. Nancy McLehose - a forbidden love, but the love of Burn's life nevertheless.
Ian Letham. You are completely correct. All the fancy voice antics and yodelling does nothing for the song at all.She doesn't know the words, her pronunciation of the Scots is appalling. She has destroyed some of the most beautiful love songs ever written
