The Albin, Vega 27 sailboat he sailed doesn't get enough discussion. What an amazing story, a 50 year old boat gets minor, minimum maintenance prior to sailing through 3 of probably the 10 worst areas to sail through regarding pure punishment for the boat. That boat held together. She was leaking from stem to stern, getting knocked down, getting slammed by monster waves, getting slammed by monster winds, and she got him home safely. A testament to fiberglass boats and more specifically Albin boats! Cheers!
Outstanding achievement in sailing terms and more importantly a turn around in social behavior. A phenomenal story that brought out his personal life , his family and his passion. Awesome stuff Matt .
Hello from Germany/ I am a man and since I am getting older I do cry more. Mostly listening to certain kind of music and looking at some pictures. But this story made me cry too because of what we as people could do. I did live my dream for 40 years. Much love and Gesundheit from the old country. I do believe in dreams and love.

Super inspirational . Suicidal mission with a 2 percent chance to survive and a 0.01 percent chance to succeed . Fearless and heart broken with a will to help someone else , that's what got him there. So glad that he succeeded. Great documentary of this historical event !
Holy cow I don't believe this, I compared the Albin Vega to my 1985 Pearson 27 Triton and barring my spade rudder, they're very similar in statistics. But I don't think I'd ever try what he did. No, I know I wouldn't try what he did! That's just amazing. I love it that he just wore jeans and regular stuff, not expensive sailing gear. But that's probably why he got that rash! When he said that he doesn't want to go to land because he has adjusted to the ocean, he's in the rhythm, etc, I want to have that feeling some day. Fiberglass sailboats are just amazing machines, unbelievable. Thank you Matt!
By the end of this video I was crying with pride to witness (via this video) a Human, Being...and not just just Being for himself, but for others as well! Thank you, Matt, for Being a good Human. It's inspiring on a level above and beyond what others thought you could be, you could do! Thank you for being you, Sir!
Sooooo inspiring! Great story of passion and strength of character. I have just started sailing, at 54:) P.S. love the music.....sounds like Snotty nose Rez kids.
This should inspire anybody. I am 63 and I hope I still have plenty of time for big adventures. I have had a crazy life so far. I can't sail, but have grown up with the sea. The plan is to buy one of these boats and solo sail her from the UK to Thailand and from there who knows!
Congratulations, Matt!👏🙌⛵️I’m so happy for you completing this accomplishment. Thank you for sharing.🙏Looking forward to learning more from your adventures and expeditions.
I always told parents of my ADHD elementary students no medication. Medication messes these children up. I would tell the parents “let me handle him”. They were blue collar and were with me. I would put ADHD student off to side of class by themself. Then I made sure we went outside to play a lot. Also take lots of breaks during day in class to socialize. I told the parents that ADHD students become successful later in life if they can stay out of trouble. They become your contractors, successful business owners etc.

This was great and I enjoyed it immensely. Respectfully I don't agree with "the point of life is happiness" concept but I learned a few things along the way in this film regardless. Best wishes and thanks for sharing.
Amazing man!!! I identify as any entire family have adhd to the max! Fortunately i am like Max I have the ability to hyper focus. Also like Max I’m obsessed with Arctic exploration and Shackleton in particular lol! I never thought about it before but Max is exactly the person I imagined Shackleton to be. Max would fit the prototype for the best of them!
Excellent doco movie , he is very brave sailing in that size boat .. I been sailing since young age I Don't think I would sail around in one that small .. Fantastic achievement ...
I just cannot fathom being in the water that long and not having a rod and reel. Probably least of his worries but is my first thought. FISHING!!! Brave young man. Way more than I am. I hated school and barely graduated. Yet some years I have made 6x’s what a teachers salary is. ADD kids are smart. Some VERY smart. We just learn differently.
Matt had his own demons, but I don't think his father knew how to handle him. Despite his circumstances Matt has accomplished things people could only dream of. You have an amazing story.
I cannot believe he made it through the northwest passage. Only a handfull of people ever sailed the northwest passage with far more dying in the attempt. Now hes bummed? I cannot believe he did not stop. After the leaky fkn bladder and that was before entering the passage to boot!
That really loud noise you heard is calving ice breaking off the glacier. I don’t know if you remember me or not but I was watching your trip around the Americas back during the time I was living the dream on my 35’ Choey Lee in Poquoson, VA. I’m currently looking for a new to me used sailboat currently in Los Angless. Where I will sail her down to the horn and back to the East Coast solo if I have to only need a current passport if I stop anywhere.
More balls than a ship full of marines indeed! This is my inspiration as I prepare to set sail at age 69. With one ovary and a boyfriend who is a lot like Matt. How lucky am I?
That boat really did look worse for wear at the end of it all. These sailing videos really do separate the truly genuine sailors from the posers. An inspiring story. But he did learn saying skills before he left for this trip. There is a lot of skill involved in sailing.
Inspires me to follow my dream of circumnavigating the entire Pacific Ocean starting from Vancouver Island and heading south along the coast of the Americas . . . etc. Solo and nonstop would be the plan on my 30' cutter (I have no idea of the make - I just know she's built for blue-water). Aah, to dream.

Completely agree! Do you know whatever happened to the boat? I grew up sailing on a boat manufactured by the same company.
He was going to "donate" it to a museum, but they wanted money so he just sold it to someone to raise money for his non-profit organization.
Do you happen to know anything about Don Pye boats? He was with Holman and Pye out of the UK and designed my boat hustler35.

How did you come up with these statistics?
I'm doing a similar voyage, similar situation. Seeing someone else do it makes me even more determined. Thank you Matt.
