Me after realizing Dan only has one life left: “please don’t game over during the Mach speed section. Please don’t game over during the Mach speed section!” (In case you don’t know, if you get a game over on the first level the game boots you back to the title screen and you have to start from the opening cutscene all over again, it doesn’t auto-save unless you finish a level)

The Banjo&Kazooie music really adds to the loading screens. I get the feeling that before the week ends, i'm gonna be humming the tune on a daily basis... It's so catchy!
I think literally any music would add to the loading screens. If they didn't get time to optimize out all of the pointless loading screens, they could've at least made them less... boring.

I love that there's literally more loading than there are cutscenes. You'd think they'd know how to optimise that after so many years of game experience
Yeah the loading is so inefficient cause normally you wait till the end of development to work those things out; Sonic '06 was booted out the door faster than a pregnant teenager before Roe v Wade

While true, when this much of a game is nowhere near acceptable for sale, the difference between a fair, comprehensive criticism and bashing it is not that far apart. Trying to give evidence and examples can result in so many extensive issues that not "bashing" a game can be an inadequate review. 4:30 Wow.... Sonic wasn't supposed to fling forward like that onto the empty beach. He was supposed to fly up to the rock formation and jump off to the goal ring. But somehow the game decided to just let that glitch slide for you.

I'm so glad that for this big anniversary title that Sonic team remembered what Sonic was really all about at his roots. Walking around talking to NPC's.
Miles P. Rower I think the design of the Egg Cerberus is sort of reminiscent of the kinds of mechs you encounter in the Metal Gear Solid games toward the end of the timeline. MGS4, MGR:R, things like that. Of course, this game predates both of those, so they can't be an influence. It also kind of reminds me of a zoid or a zord.
There is something very satisfying about the moments when Tails' tail-spin sound effect happens to line up with the rhythm of the boss music during the dog fight!

based on information from matt mcmuscles's "wha happun: sonic '06", the main reason this game is this way is because very few people actually worked on it full time, and they were overworked and underpaid for the work they were doing. then the game got kicked out the door totally unfinished. so, no, nobody in the loop really believed in this project.
I'm pretty sure the overlapping voice lines has NEVER showed up in any other playthroughs I've seen. Including other plathroughs of the Xbox version, one of which is going on right now. HOW. How does this KEEP HAPPENING. Like, it's an accepted truism by now that every time someone does an LP of this game, they conjure brand-new bugs from the Dungeon Dimensions. The "close competition" you describe between Sonic Adventure and Sonic 06 in terms of quality was also how a friend of mine thought about it. That was until he let me try the game for the first time, and I fell through the roof of a level, stood upside down in loops and more. We also had a multiplayer race where I got to try playing with Sonic's full toolkit without knowing the levels and he tried to play them normally. By accident I found that some of Sonic's abilities let me go through corners and outside the level, where I got lost and lost most of our races. If played one time, the game doesn't seem *that* bad, but I doubt this would have been possible in any of the adventure games - which is not to say that they are particularly high quality.
Speaking of Sonic 06 having new glitches every time I see it: why is the first line of every cutscene delayed and overlapping stuff??? I've literally never seen that
I haven't watched the first episode nor am I going to watch this one. I just wanted to say that the title of this one made me laugh a lot. I could only imagine the first two episodes were you waiting for the load time to be over xD Ahhh good ol' Sonic 06. Don't we love it.
I think I've read that the biggest difference between the 360 and PS3 versions are that the loading times are significantly worse on the PS3. Saying something nice about this game for once, if the controls of the game were better, Egg Cerberus woul dhave probably been a really cool boss.
My favorite thing about this game is the Silver vs. Sonic fight from Silver's perspective. They actually stay consistent about Silver being hilariously overpowered, and everyone I've seen play this game found that fight to be really cathartic.
The speed sections try to follow the rule of cool, but do so at the expense of control and visibility. Those sections must feel like playing in autopilot and must be a pain to get a perfect score.
Don't feel the need to edit out the loading. It was our choice to watch this video, the least we can do is sit in solidarity with you during the loading!
How can someone who's usually so bad at Sonic go and clear one of those broken-ass speed sections first time? That was incredible in the truest sense of the word.
I can't believe you got through the first Mach Speed section without dying. I guess all that Dark Souls and Sekiro training paid off somehow. Incidentally, you didn't hit the pillars at the end of the final loop like you were supposed to and the goal ring's graphics didn't load as a result. I didn't know that could happen.
As someone who has played the PS3 version, I can say that the major reason why it's worse aside from the load times, is the slowdown. The problem with this game is that, rather than dropping frames, the whole game becomes slowed down when the FPS drop, so basically controlling Sonic becomes very unpredictable because he will just suddenly feel very heavy and slow at any point that the game is dropping frames. This slowdown is so bad it even happens frequently during the hubworld (I remember it happening a lot around the fountain near the shop) Edit: On the other hand, it seems that you're getting slowdown during the cutscenes, which is something I never experienced in the PS3 version. Which in turn is making them seem really oddly paced and making the dialog overlap
Okay but imagine that boss battle with more consistent rail grinding, less running around wasting time, and some sort of threat to keep you occupied until it's vulnerable (eg. missiles).
Tails dying off-screen is like the perfect running gag, it gets me every single time
We should make a drinking game out of it. Every time Tails dies offscreen, take a shot.
We needed a Dark Souls esk death counter for every time Miles (Tails) Prower gets himself killed.
