Reach Records Lecrae, why all of a sudden you letting fame get to you and completely dissing your diverse multicultural fans. Now you want to just be fine with cursing and have these unsaved rappers sing on your tracks.I'm really disappointed in you.I just pray that you change your ways and behavior
Lyric by lyric explanation: 'Hold up 3x Yall gone get me bowed up When that beat hit, it's like three kicks to yo knees up to yo nose huh' 1. This is just Lecrae getting hyped about the beat 'You knows us unashamed, uno uno seis tatted on my skin, all up in you face' 2. He is repping Romans 1:16, and isn't ashamed to show it. 'If I ain't about that life, then I ain't really living but if you can't see my light then maybe I ain't in it' 3. If he isn't living to serve God, then he's not really living. But if there is no evidence of the light of God (fruit of the spirit) then he's an impostor. 'Champagne Champagne Celebrating my campaign' 4. Not that helping others shouldn't be celebrated, Lecrae is actually showing the smugness and excessive pride that some people have as they give in charity. This is a mild form of a 'messiah or savior complex' (Matt. 6:1, 23:5) 'I just dug a well in West Africa, but how many of my friends is African' 5. This is a revelation of how Americans and others in modernized countries are great at missions for poorer countries, but he then contrasts this with our friends, or in particular the people we grew up with or our fellow countrymen and how we are voluntarily neglectful in spreading the Gospel and love to our own citizens. 'No hablo espanol, just show me tu bano (bathroom) aint trying to get to know you I'm too busy reading Daniel' 6. Not just when we speak to Hispanics, but people in general, we tend to pass them up daily and never take the time to meet them, know them, or even befriend them. People are more accepting of the Gospel if you actually show interest in them as a person, and it makes it easier to evangelize to them. Instead, we're like the Pharisee, who know the law (reading Daniel), but can't show the love and mercy of God. 'Most segregated time of day is sunday service now what you think that says about the God you worship' 7. This is dealing with manual self-segregation blacks and whites (hispanics also) do in going to church. This sends the message to the world that God is divided and that his people are divided by their own choice and hardness of heart. It expresses division more than love 'First of all I know it aint a song that gone change the world, there's no way It's not a guilt trip, it's a field trip that's gone last more than one day' 8. Lecrae realizes that this song alone isn't enough to change the problems in the church today. 'It's not a guilt trip', refers to the fact that some people get defensive or offended when you bring up race/racism instead of searching for solutions without being in denial of its existence. Example, 'white guilt.' 'It's a field trip' refers to the fact that it will be a long and steady journey for Christians to get there concerning this 'what you thought, huh? faith ain't bout no soft stuff' 9. Most people think our Christian walk is supposed to be comfortable with no worries. (take up your cross). Faith involves getting out of our comfort zone and reaching out to people of different races, socioeconomic status, etc. 'I heard you just went overseas now come back home and boss up' 10. Lecrae is asking Christians to show the same fervor and desire to spread the Gospel in america as we do in poorer countries. To be active among people, (P.S. not just with social media) 'Buy a bottle for a fee dirty water bodies floating in sea dirty water blood following from the ground dirty water 2x' 11. A contrast between america, where we can buy clean water, and poorer african nations, where mostly dirty water is accessible. the contrast is that one physically suffers from a lack of clean water, while the other suffers spiritually, a nod to crime and murder in poorer american neighborhoods. the water represents the oceans that physically divides africans from african-americans, yet it's what spiritually connect them, also. The water is dirty from the murdered people of today and the enslaved people from yesterday. 'aint' no filters in this town, dirty water' 12. 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. American christians aren't willing to 'filter' or reach out to the 'bodies' lost in the sea of sin in america, especially in crime ridden areas 2nd verse explanation: 'Worthless worthless 400 years we done heard this my family came here on slave ships some herd cattle some herd blacks I know some of yall done heard that' ' 1. A reference to the african slave trade, where blacks were seen as worthless savages, or even apes to some, 400 years refers to the fact that we still feel the effects of this sentiment today. Where both whites and blacks today, still see blacks as worthless, even subsciously. Also, it refers to the only black history we know in america is slavery, not the cultural or even african kingdoms of the past. Lecrae then refers to blacks being seen as livestock (possessions) and not humans 'My kin was treated less than men that's why we raised to hate each other cuz we hate our skin' 2. A realization of how slavery/segregation has effected the mindset of blacks where they hate other and view their skin as worthless ('black on black' crime). Also, could be a reference to how beauty in america is treated where more white facial/skin features are celebrated, and black facial/skin features are belittled or ignored. 'Lies you told about yourself that you don't realize' 3. 'that you don't realize' refers to the subconscious nature of how blacks view themselves, even connected to how other races view them. It's more subtle, less obvious racism in the subconscious that both blacks and whites suffer from. 'must be a thief she locked the doors when I was walking by' 4. Refers to the things we assume when blacks, or even latinos, walk by us. We judge them. And sadly that judgment occurs like a natural reflex to some people. 'they must be whores cuz the master rapes em' and leaves the child so deadbeat daddy was taught to me way before my time' 5. Back during slavery, Masters would rape their slave's wives and the husband couldn't do anything about it. The slaves would still be responsible to take care of the child. This represents the degrading of black women that's been instilled in america, and how today that degradation is in the form of dead beat dads, baby momma/baby daddy drama. That's why Lecrae says it 'was taught before my time' or before he was even born, It's part of american history 'Now we extreme buying fancy thing like gold chains just pretty shackles we still enslaved put em round ya neck cuz we still hangin' 6. This refers to how some blacks go to the extreme in buying jewelry and other expensive things to try to add 'value' to themselves. They're enslaved to material things and the crime around them. The 'hangin' or lynching reference is acknowledgement of how some blacks 'lynch' each other or themselves through crime, all to acquire those said gold chains. Police brutality could also can added in 'lynching' also 'hood preacher told em they should live as kings you call him devil he fighting for self esteem' 7. The 'hood preacher' refers to the gang recruiters/rappers who steer black kids into a life chasing material things. "you call him devil' is synonymous with 'you call him a thug'. It shows how most americans, black and white, don't know how to relate to them, in order to help them. We call them 'devils', or our physical enemy, without understanding that they are broken and misguided people. (2 Cor. 10:4) 'It's hard to dream when yo water ain't clean now look at lucifer scheming us out of being a team' 8. It's hard to have hope and dreams when the area around you have so much crime and depravity 'dirty water.' The devil uses misguided views on one another and even racism to divide people from coming together. Because if americans came together as a whole, with the love of God, we could end most crime in america. We're losing out 'Blood in the ocean to these african streams this dirty water ain't nothing we haven't seen' 9. This again parallels to how american christians participate in missions and charities in poorer african nations. The physical dirty water we find there and dig wells for is no different than the spiritual dirty water we see in america through gun violence/bloodshed among african americans.
I think you have got it....it's definitely something I can agree with you on..all of it...it's about the way we treat eachother..especially the Black race...that purchase of the water and the bodies floating...IMO same thing but also, that the water is something controlled, taken from others and given off of the backs of others to those who consume it now. It's not clean for it was not received in a clean manner. Hence its filth. Good breakdown! Thanks! :-)
The second verse is very profound and explains the entire song. The chorus is a reminder that the very thing that should be refreshing us is actually poisoning us (by a bottle for a fee...dirty water). It is a reference to the past connecting it to today. Slaves coming on ships were thrown in the ocean (Bodies floating in the sea)...slaves being killed in fields (blood flowing from the ground)...these connect with some of the social activity of the black culture today (gold chains, etc.). This is one of the most profound and significant songs considering all that our country is going through today.
Maybe just me, but this song speaks so much about how much we ignore and sweep under the rug. Makes me feel like instead of death and decay, we should be more wrapped up in life and restoration. We aren't so far as to drown in our own blood yet, we can turn this around and acknowledge God's perfection and actually heal what is broken. Jesus said to Deny thyself and pick up thy cross daily and follow Him. Well if we walk in His footsteps, there is power; and that power contains so so much healing. ...We need to clean the wounds.
John 4,13-14: Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." My interpretation: dirty water has multiple meanings in this song. First and foremost it goes out to those who does not drink from the water that Jesus gives, but drink from dirty sources instead such as today's hedonistic pop culture. Also he is criticising Christians who are too busy reading the Bible (Daniel), to get to know their fellow men, since Jesus wanted Christians to live together in communities. It can also refer to the dirty water many Africans are forced to drink and to the blood trace left in the ocean after the slave trade. Lecrae is a true poet in my view.
This is probably the sixth video I'm commenting on, but I just need to express my feelings!! I love how in every song, Lecrae is being transparent, honest, and making you think!!
I believe this song is not the typical 'God is good,' song, but I agree with it completly. In order to preach to people about God's love and believe in it, you have to look deep into your heart, and expose yourself to him. But if all that comes out is Dirty Water even after you become Chirstian, there are still things that need redemption. LeCrae is just exposing some of what really is going on in African American culture and why that can pose a problem to their Chirstian faith. God bless, and I hope you can meditate on my interpretation. He's a really good rapper, and songs that talk about the truth of society, not just the Porshes and gold chains are a breath of fresh air.
"Now we extreme buying fancy things like gold chains, just pretty shackles we still enslaved, put 'em round ya neck cuz we still hangin'." - Lecrae That's deep.
Some of us, as Christians need to read The Word and develop our own walk with Christ. We waiting for music and pastors to spoon-feed The Word to us. You don't understand this song? Maybe you're drinking dirty water. Christ is pure living water. However, many of us drink dirty water. We claim we're doing God's Will, but miss so much. I'm helping people get food in Africa, but I walked past a homeless man in the street and said "he needs a job." We try to be Christians in a distance, but won't practice what we preach when the situation becomes too close for comfort.
I have not found a solid interpretation of the song. So being a history teacher, lets give it a shot. Lecrae uses the song to discuss issues revolving around the impure nature of human beings and natural racism. He discusses the travesties and blood shed that have taken place over hundreds of years. When one thinks of Christ they would associate purity with him. Unfortunately for us, our lives are so full of sin, they will never be pure. Dirty water is a metaphor for the blood soaked land we walk on, and the oceans filled with our sin. There is no way to clean it, as he states, we have no filter. There is no righting the wrongs. There is only us going forward in our filth and only through Christ at the time of our death will we be cleaned. Just my 2cents
In the beginning of the song, I believe he is talking about Christians who are doing Christian things, but their heart is not into it. "But if you can't see my light then maybe I ain't in it." Then he gives examples of someone who isn't "in it". I think "in it" means to be authentically compelled and driven to do something out of your real convictions.
This song tells the truth and the whole truth and nothing but the truth because we'll just listen we need more ppl like the 116 clique I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL!!!!!!!
Idk if y'all noticed, but the A during the hook is in exact rhythm with the Kick and Bass. Reach definitely put a lot of time in the lyric videos, watch them closely!.
I loooooove it! To revisit the potent issues that plague life is life itself. To expose the issues on a rap level is phenomEnal. Christ DEFINITELY cares about these issues and im glad to see them come from one of our own. #dirtywater

We went to winter jam and he was there and this was before I was baptized in Jesus name and got the Holy Ghost, but let me tell you that no one not even me praised or worshipped God when he performed we we're all stoked because of Lecrae. His music is all based on people's feelings. it's just rap with no curse words and has nothing to do with people's salvation.

Aiven thank you, I was not sure what the dirty water meant.
Love his whole album. Such a talented artist!
Song is a lot LOUDER in person. Love the song but the live beat is great. Pray Lecrae keeps following God and not get pulled in by the world.

This is probably the sixth video I'm commenting on, but I just need to express my feelings!! I love how in every song, Lecrae is being transparent, honest, and making you think!!
Wow! No other words necessary!
I love dirty water it's my favorite song😍
This is the best song ever! These lacrae songs give my father a message that brings him closer to Christ! Thanks so much Lacrae! You help me so much!
Dang he doesn't hold back. I love it.
I am in love with this song!! Can't get enough of it!
He speaking the truth
I LOVE this song sooooooo much
That is such a strong lyrics. I hope many people get to hear it.
I think my mind just exploaded for this epicness. I dream one day to create beauty like this inspired from God.

"Now we extreme buying fancy things like gold chains, just pretty shackles we still enslaved, put 'em round ya neck cuz we still hangin'." - Lecrae
That's deep.
So true.
This song is lit 👍been listening for years
I have not found a solid interpretation of the song.

I like this song
The bass in my this song legitimately blew my sub, it is off the richter scale. Awesome beat.
This is so real. Love it
I love this song
This one just slapped me in the face. Nice one Lecrae.
In the beginning of the song, I believe he is talking about Christians who are doing Christian things, but their heart is not into it. "But if you can't see my light then maybe I ain't in it." Then he gives examples of someone who isn't "in it". I think "in it" means to be authentically compelled and driven to do something out of your real convictions.
love it. we was just learning about "dirty water" at a church. so you on point lecrae. keep going.
This song makes sense and has a good message
I love how the A in the background moves in and out as if its a subwoofer. Legiittttt

Boss Up!

I loooooove it! To revisit the potent issues that plague life is life itself. To expose the issues on a rap level is phenomEnal. Christ DEFINITELY cares about these issues and im glad to see them come from one of our own. #dirtywater
'Hold up 3x
Yall gone get me bowed up
When that beat hit, it's like three kicks
to yo knees up to yo nose huh'
1. This is just Lecrae getting hyped about the beat
'You knows us
unashamed, uno uno seis
tatted on my skin, all up in you face'
2. He is repping Romans 1:16, and isn't ashamed to show it.
'If I ain't about that life, then I ain't really living
but if you can't see my light then maybe I ain't in it'
3. If he isn't living to serve God, then he's not really living. But if there is no evidence of the light of God (fruit of the spirit) then he's an impostor.
'Champagne Champagne
Celebrating my campaign'
4. Not that helping others shouldn't be celebrated, Lecrae is actually showing the smugness and excessive pride that some people have as they give in charity. This is a mild form of a 'messiah or savior complex' (Matt. 6:1, 23:5)
'I just dug a well in West Africa,
but how many of my friends is African'
5. This is a revelation of how Americans and others in modernized countries are great at missions for poorer countries, but he then contrasts this with our friends, or in particular the people we grew up with or our fellow countrymen and how we are voluntarily neglectful in spreading the Gospel and love to our own citizens.
'No hablo espanol, just show me tu bano (bathroom)
aint trying to get to know you
I'm too busy reading Daniel'
'Most segregated time of day is sunday service
now what you think that says about the God you worship'
7. This is dealing with manual self-segregation blacks and whites (hispanics also) do in going to church. This sends the message to the world that God is divided and that his people are divided by their own choice and hardness of heart. It expresses division more than love
'First of all I know it aint a song
that gone change the world, there's no way
It's not a guilt trip, it's a field trip
that's gone last more than one day'
8. Lecrae realizes that this song alone isn't enough to change the problems in the church today. 'It's not a guilt trip', refers to the fact that some people get defensive or offended when you bring up race/racism instead of searching for solutions without being in denial of its existence. Example, 'white guilt.' 'It's a field trip' refers to the fact that it will be a long and steady journey for Christians to get there concerning this
'what you thought, huh?
faith ain't bout no soft stuff'
9. Most people think our Christian walk is supposed to be comfortable with no worries. (take up your cross). Faith involves getting out of our comfort zone and reaching out to people of different races, socioeconomic status, etc.
'I heard you just went overseas
now come back home and boss up'
10. Lecrae is asking Christians to show the same fervor and desire to spread the Gospel in america as we do in poorer countries. To be active among people, (P.S. not just with social media)
'Buy a bottle for a fee
dirty water
bodies floating in sea
dirty water
blood following from the ground
dirty water 2x'
'aint' no filters in this town,
dirty water'
12. 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. American christians aren't willing to 'filter' or reach out to the 'bodies' lost in the sea of sin in america, especially in crime ridden areas
2nd verse explanation:
'Worthless worthless
400 years we done heard this
my family came here on slave ships
some herd cattle
some herd blacks
I know some of yall done heard that'
'
1. Lecrae then refers to blacks being seen as livestock (possessions) and not humans
'My kin was treated less than men
that's why we raised to hate each other
cuz we hate our skin'
2. A realization of how slavery/segregation has effected the mindset of blacks where they hate other and view their skin as worthless ('black on black' crime). Also, could be a reference to how beauty in america is treated where more white facial/skin features are celebrated, and black facial/skin features are belittled or ignored.
'Lies you told about yourself
that you don't realize'
3. 'that you don't realize' refers to the subconscious nature of how blacks view themselves, even connected to how other races view them. It's more subtle, less obvious racism in the subconscious that both blacks and whites suffer from.
'must be a thief
she locked the doors when I was walking by'
4. Refers to the things we assume when blacks, or even latinos, walk by us. We judge them. And sadly that judgment occurs like a natural reflex to some people.
'they must be whores
cuz the master rapes em' and leaves the child
so deadbeat daddy was taught to me way before my time'
5. That's why Lecrae says it 'was taught before my time' or before he was even born, It's part of american history
'Now we extreme buying fancy thing like gold chains
just pretty shackles we still enslaved
put em round ya neck cuz we still hangin'
6. Police brutality could also can added in 'lynching' also
'ho

I'm buying this album for real.
This song is just more than base and nice music but it is inspiring. I like it a lot.
Dope 👍
Anomaly was such a good album
Leacre is awesome he was in Athens ga when the move conference was down there it was so cool
I dont think this is a everyone problem i think that's a you problem
Wow....powerful
love this song this is all I here at church
