I have been driving a 95 del sol S since 2010 and it is the best car I have ever owned. Flawless reliability, 45mpg, absolute blast to drive. A car this good could not be made today at a value price.
Always happy to watch a Del Sol Video. A few things cuz i'm a Del Sol nerd. US got the Del sols from 93-97. 98 Mainly Australia US got the S and SI in 93 and in 94 we got the Vtec (b16Aa3). So, we had 3 models up until 97 when Honda gave us all black interior and a B16a2 which is the same motor as the EM1 Civic in 2000. The engine bay is a carbon copy of the EG, everything behind the firewall to the trunk is obviously different. Also, the US was the only place that never got the Transtop, the automatic Targa removal system in the trunk. Which is fine IMO because it weighed million pounds.
a video by someone with no knowledge of the car and didnt even read the wiki page. All his engine information is wrong other than that its FWD. His analysis of the usability of the car and civic i geneneral is flawed. 10/10 misinformation
I bought my Del Sol new in 1997. I still have it, been driving it daily. I bought an automatic because I was sick of driving a manual which I had been doing for the previous 4 years. The salesman tried to talk me out of it saying it costs more and would be slower and worth less money than a manual. I didn't care.
So believe it or not, there's way more room in there than you would think. My buddy is 6'1" and has driven mine with room to spare. Also the SI came with both the D series & B series. The D series had 120 HP while the B had the 160. Thanks for making this!
I love driving the car . I like the handling . I love the five speed transmission. I takes less than 5 minutes to wash the car. If they passed a law requiring the only way your car gets washed you do it, all the tanks on the road would disappear. My 1997 Honda Del Sol Si is the car for me. It is kept in the garage and I maintain it
I miss my Del Sol so much. I am absolutely getting another once I have a house where I can put it in a garage and work on it again. Such a fun little car!
I currently own a Del Sol and I don't mind how small it is. Also it is primarily my daily driver and it runs great and gets good gas mileage. Mine's an automatic which I don't mind then again I don't know the difference between that and the manual but I've never had a problem I do plan on putting some modifications like an engine swap but so far the car runs great as is for the base model and I got it for a steal in pretty good condition. Also the AC and mine runs pretty cold but then again maybe I'm just lucky LOL
this is The best car you can find if you spend the right money & get one from the right owner. mine is still definitely worth the 600 i spent when i originally bought it. this car isnt for any regular person either. if you're the type of person who likes small cars with basically no cup holder & a roof that leaks like hell then buy a del sol. but not a cheap one like mine.
how much they cost? Got one in excellent condition, all original but timing belt and everything else in engine like new, it's a Honda! Will outlive me 😅😅😅
I've been looking pretty heavily into Del Sols for a while now. I'll say this, for a vehicle of it's class, the interior is actually surprisingly spacious, especially compared to any generation of Miata. Also, the trunk is deceptively large. Don't be fooled by how small the car is the trunk is ridiculously large, even if the top is being stored in there. If you don't need to haul people around frequently you can easily get away with owning it as your only car, way easier than a Miata.
Umm i believe in either 94 or 95 they started a vtec trim, which i own a 95 del sol vtec, and two other 95 s models, the vtec model was their top of line and i believe my engine is a b16a3 and in the 96 and 97 models they came with a b16 a2 i think, just throwing that out there
A friend of mine from my teen years had one. Felt asleep while driving it, crashed it and the car split in half. Engine compartment in one side and cabin with him on another side of the road. Then I hear they are purposely designed that way 🤷🏼♂️. Not sure if that bad, good or ugly.
@@markroden Well, he was asleep. He survived cause he didn’t see it coming. But if that’s how the car is supposed to react after a crash, I guess it did his job.
Great review. You have to really want this car, or any 80's-90's Honda. They're reliable, but mostly, they're not the most practical cars. Especially the Del Slo. They will leak, and they will rust, unless you were diligent about it in the 90's, which most people weren't. With CRX's, preludes, etc getting more costly, the Del sols are next. I've already seen an uptick in how fast they sell, and the prices are going up. That being said, unless you live in New Mexico, you'll have to deal with rust, but not much else. Unless you're a glutton for punishment (like me), I wouldn't buy one in the northeast, unless you never drive in rain or snow. It's not fast, but it handles great. And yes, if you have an automatic tranny, it's a waste of money.
First off that is not a stock muffler. I own a 1997 Honda Del Sol Si. Of course if you put a sport muffler you are going to hear it. This is a car with only 127 horsepower. You pickup the performance with a Sport muffler. I am an original owner. I am 72. So I prefer a quieter exhaust. I picket up performance by using four prong platinum Bosch Spark plugs . The car run much stronger than the stock NGK plugs. It makes that difference. I prefer quieter Stealth . The car with 222,000 miles will cruise 100.
Keep up the great work u should of mentioned the fact that the del sol comes with a d15, d16 and b16 but regardless I enjoyed ur video next time look a little more into what motors they come with and a recommendation do the eg hatch please
I def co-sign the idea of doin the eg hatch.. or just eg in general since it would include the hatch.. I was in high school and got my license in the early 2000's, so the eg and ek civics were huge in the car scene and not even all that old yet. Crazy thing is, a clean one was prolly cheaper back then than it is now smh.. reliable and cheap to work on (and cheap to mod so any kid gettin in to cars wanted one) so they also flooded every high school parking lot. Any kid w/ coilovers, intake and fart can muffler, and euro tail lights thought they were straight out of the Fast and the Furious
My 1997 leaks only in a down pour and not bad. The 1993 , 1994 and possibly the 1995 were worse than the last two years of the model. Replace the dam rubber gasket 9:57
I really want like a s2k or a new civic si but for now I don’t have the money plus I’ve never driven stick. So I started looking at del sols because they’re really cool and super cheap
I’m 31 and just bought a del sol shell I’m building it from the ground up and I’m stoked this is an awesome journey to have fun and learn you will love it especially when you are looking forward to a drag tournament like I am when I’m finished but im thinking rear wheel drive or I leave it fwd
It was my first car at 21, its a very fun car thats super easy to work on, i swapped my suspension myself with 0 prior experience and just YT videos. Great mileage and you *can* find them cheap. Good to learn manual on as well, since the transmissions are sturdy. Definitely stalled it a lot and the transmission is still going strong. Got mine for 4k but that was a pretty crazy deal for the condition it was in, expect to spend ~7k
What wheels did we see? I'll be putting new dance shoes on my baby... Just need to figure out which ones... Suggestions for some 15". 195/50 jdm style wheels that fit?
Again I don’t agree it bigger inside than a Miata . The trunk on U S. Models with manual roof removal is luggage for two. That makes the Del Sol a long distance driver. The Miata has a joke for a trunk . The early Miata’s road hard. And was only good for short travel. The Del Sol is like years better. than the First generation. The trunk is still a joke even on the new one!

WHAT A NERD> JEEEZUS!
Onlyn 200 more lbs. But it puts it in the rear which helps with the weight balance.

Yup he skipped the vtec trim. Also definitely not a $1k car lol.
i own a 95 vtec, i restored, its strictly a weekend, summer car, that's the best way to enjoy the delsol, top off windows down👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Ngl I’ve always wanted to throw on the same graphics from Johnny Tran’s S2000 from the first F&F movie on to a Del Sol
That would be sick
That’s actually my plan with the one I just got lol
I bought my Del Sol new in 1997. I still have it, been driving it daily. I bought an automatic because I was sick of driving a manual which I had been doing for the previous 4 years. @@eastcoastken thanks for the info bro, and that’s right I should’ve known lol

@@eastcoastken yeah the D16Z6 has vtec but there’s a third trim the Del sol came in called The Del Sol VTEC that came with the b16
The trunk on the Honda del sol is bigger than any civic trunk from the very first one to now.
07:37 I would disagree, the Del Sol's trunk space is larger than most modern SUVs.
Correct. If you leave the top on, or away from the car, it's pretty spacious in there. The giveaway is how big the truck lid is. Yuge.

Si had a 1.6 sohc vtec with 127.
VTEC had the b16. 3 trim levels. S Si and vtec.
Oh damn my fault
I agree on the cup holders. But after own 27 years it looks great to me। Compared to the F. King tanks on the road it is beautiful.
Not good driving an invisible car 😂
That was funny thanks. Needed that.
