      @@SGYLT12School is a waste of time, not education. There’s other forms of learning that are useful rather than your traditional “be in debt and find a job not in the field of your ‘expertise’”. I’m 25, dropped out of high school, found a job that didn’t even require any trade school training and making a little over 100k before overtime. My job is SUPER easy. Full benefits and all. Sure, not everyone is going to be in my situation. But unless you really want to go for something that requires a high level of education and you’re passionate about it, don’t waste your time. It’s really not necessary.

      She still can get educated from works. The only education you needs in this world is finance education and political. Having a doctor/engineer degree does not guarantee that you can paid for your life. Costs of living today is crazy. After 4 years of college, most students cannot survive with their minimum entry-level wages, however after 4 years i am sure she owe nothing and own houses/cars..... I think college is a wastes of time and money and your life. However, education is not. I think she made the right decision. At the end, making money is important. If she want to go to college she can certainly do that in her later years. There was an old lady who graduated with a Dr/PhD degree when she was in her 90 plus.

    Haha welding give me a break. When I was young I worked at a machine shop that had fabrication departments and let me tell you, welding is a miserable job. Summer time comes around and you’ll be baking your butt off in those coveralls. Plenty of six figure jobs in tech where you get to work from home. Besides, when I dropped out of college initially it was all the welders that told me to GET BACK INTO SCHOOL! Very thankful for the older guys talking sense into me in those days.

    • @TriAmpHiFi
      @TriAmpHiFi 4 месяца назад +11

      Lol, yeah you're right except AI with or without robotic tools will, by necessity, eliminate the trade completely. Anyone for basket weaving college? Maybe fur trapper? And now with PEX, the plummers' bending, soldering & measuring skills aren't needed.
      The only way to be a tradesman these days is with custom work. As soon as 10 or more widgets are needed, labor is decreased & mechanization is increased.
      There's no hope for a Cabinet Maker at Ikea or Wal-mart. Same is true for an Upholsterer at Pier One or Home Goods.
      Starting, owning & building a trades labor company is really the way to make a buck because no one wants to be a tradesman at 50.

You have to know someone to get ahead in the waiting list and show up to the hall every morning during the recruitment season to show interest. Which isn't a problem until 2 years of doing this passes by and no results. My mom's ex-husband was an Iron Worker and he brought me to the annual rodeo. I've heard first-hand accounts of the process. It's not an easy feat and its mostly because of the nepotism.

    Do your research before becoming a welder. The attrition rate of iron workers is HIGH!! Because it is honestly grueling physical work, conditions, and lots of traveling/hotel living. Plus you got the political side of the unions (whether your okay with them or not). If you want to become a welder? Look at the processes that you can actually semi do. Then a trade school will fine tune your skills. The welding field is like the medical field….there are SO MANY different avenues that a person can fit it. And only go to a accredited welding course.

    I graduated HS in 1986. We had vocational classes such as Building Trades, Welding, Auto Mechanics and Auto Body. And I attended a small 4A HS. There were even some 5A schools with Cosmetology programs and Vocational/Practical Nursing (LVN/LPN) programs. Kids had options in HS and were able to join the work force with practical job skills and experience. It seems like the mid '90s is when we saw the big push for all kids to go to Universities. I agree the Universities are important for teaching the traditional Professions but so many of the degrees today are useless and provide absolutely no value to the kids. The sad part is the credit hour cost is the same for an Engineering degree as it is for an Underwater Basket Weaving decree. How many of these kids end up working as baristas and such after they finish their "degree"?
    Seems like an easy fix but what would I know. I was one of those kids that was taught how to think, not what to think.

    I’m a tradesman myself and give a thumbs up to anyone in the trades. That being said , let’s be honest here. One of the reasons We see a shortage of skilled workers is because there are more, much more nonunion trades positions. You won’t find Union trade workers on residential construction and small commercial construction, for example, a Popeyes building being constructed. The non union contractors pay literally half of what a union contractor pays. This is why there is a shortage. If you don’t believe what I’m saying, go on an employment website like indeed, and find some job openings. Sometimes contractors will also give a wage range with no intention of ever paying the highest amount offered. Also, in defense to some residential contractors, they can’t afford to pay union wages for the type of work they do. I know this as a fact because I am a residential excavating contractor. I have always tried to pay my employees as much as I could, because that is a value my union pipefitter dad instilled in me. But most Nonunion contractors don’t want to share the wealth.
