Girl…I live in a condo and Florida and our HOA fees have increased 50% in one year. I pay over $1000/month in just HOA fees! You made the right choice! Congrats!!!

We also pay almost $1000/month in HOA here in Stockholm, Sweden and we don’t even get the sun like you do in Florida 😅 I really should re-evaluate my life choices 😂
Also in South Florida and my HOA went from 410.00 to 720.00 and instead of getting any updates we are getting less things. Eviction threats weekly it’s horrible
The insurance pricing is killing the Condo housing in Florida 😢, it’s sad but the reality. I work in insurance and the renewals premium are astronomical and barely any markets open in the state.

We built our house in 1986 when our son was just a few weeks old. The house is 2,200 square feet and it was well under $100,000. My son is now a house builder and it just blew my mind when were talking about the cost of the houses he is building now. It is like a bad dream. We would probably not be able to have a home or for sure not the size of our house. Good luck on your move.

Arlington resident here. Maryland is for sure the place to buy. Suburbia sucks, but you're not too far from the city, and it's the only true affordable option.
CONGRATS and welcome back to good ol MD, Morgan!! I’m also from MD and the DC metro area and have lived away for undergrad and grad school years, travelled a lot, and I love this area. It’s a good mix of suburbs that have fun areas and centers, while I also live within 10 miles of DC, so close enough to head downtown whenever without the congestion or traffic more than I want. Beautiful area with parks and trails, entertainment, shopping, great food, 3 major airports, and some of the best school systems in the nation. I’m super proud to be from here and as much as I enjoy traveling, there’s no place like home ❤ Welcome back and big congrats to you and Jose on buying your first house together, and all that lies ahead as you make it your home. 🥳
Congratulations Morgan! I live in Orlando, but I grew up in Baltimore. As far as education and culture, Maryland is amazing, and I’m glad I grew up there, but I can’t handle the winters. Luckily we bought our house in Orlando nine years ago well before the market went crazy. I’m happy and excited for you!❤

I’m a retired cosmetologist and interior decorator . Make a Pinterest board of all the rooms and furniture etc you love. You can go to yard sales and estate sales etc to find real wood pieces , frames etc. start with large pieces and fill in little by little . The best rooms are made in time. There are some rules you can also look up as far as steps to do first and how to layer. There’s so many tube videos to help with anything . Best of luck and big Congratulations ! Congratulations on the new home, you're going to love being a home owner! So glad that you'll be moving closer to your family. When you do decide to have children you will need them. I'm hoping to move out of Miami within 2 years, hopefully. My son lives in NC and loves it. I've visited him several times and I also love it there. So nice to experience the four seasons and cooler weather. I wish you and Jose all the best.

Thank you for talking about your move. My husband and i are in the same exact place. We are taking a trip to North Carolina next month. We also consider the same cities. We absolutely love DC, so that's an option. We are currently in Miami. I hate it here. I lived in Santa Fe for a couple of years and liked it, but not for our kids.
If possible take a look around Asheville. It's not the city but it still has everything and is absolutely gorgeous!! 🤍

Congrats! I moved to a big city for college, and moved closer to my hometown after I graduated. Bought a home for the first time in 2022! Buying and decorating your home is so exciting! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing with your new home.

Totally agree on the Miami driving…we went back to our hotel on I-95 northbound and a guy I see in my side mirror was rushing with approximately 100+ mph on a crowded interstate like a lunatic. He changed lanes every 2 seconds and all drivers reacted so fast and cool changing lanes and make space that nothing happened. The potential of this was a massive crash, so as an experienced driver since 1987 I have avoided the Miami area from that time on. Friends said it’s even gotten worse now. That happened around 10 yrs ago.

I have friends who live in downtown DC who were married in Chestertown, MD. It was the most beautiful and elegant wedding I’ve ever been to. We made a trip of it and ventured over to DC.. obviously Chestertown is only a small part of MD, but.. it was cute and nice to go from quaint town to a busy city. Balance! I can see why you would miss the convenience of walking to TJ’s and your work out classes.. those things are important! But I’m sure you’ll love this new chapter and find things to make your own again along with new routines. It’ll be great 😊 Good luck to you! Thanks for sharing.
Aahh so happy for you and your husband and a big congratulations 🎊 for buying your new home. Interior design is right up my ally if your house has big rooms fill it it with large sofas, tv's large modern and contemporary coffee tables, arm chairs, lamps, large wall art. I recently finished mine in the colour scheme of all the furniture in white in every room but with accents of champagne gold in the living room and taupe,beiges and different shades of cream in the rest of the house, definitely no grey which is still very popular but the warmer white shades are taking over a bit at the moment. Hope you are happy and settle in OK. Thank You lovely 🥰 🌟

take it from someone who has had the same sort of experience, my best advice as an older home owner have a separate bank account for home and house emergency such as a roof, flood, new toilets as you will need to replace things as you live in the house longer God Bless and congrats on a big deal of your first home

So excited for you! We’ve also moved from big city living to small town living and let me tell you, I miss being able to get out my door and walk everywhere. It’s been the hardest adjustment for me but the house and all the space we now have makes up for it. And our dog has a yard now! 🥹❤️

Live in the house for awhile before you do much to it. It helps to get a feel for it and figure out what works for you. When we bought our house, we went to a lot of yard sales where we found kitchen items, planters, small furniture items like side tables and even Halloween decorations. It really was fun as we talked to people in our area and picked up cool stuff for cheap. Don't forget thrift and vintage stores where you can often find great stuff!

Congratulations Morgan! The interest rates right now seem crazy but they are about where they were when we bought our house in the mid-1990’s. As rates come down, just keep refinancing your mortgage (usually you can do this low or no cost) but don’t take any cash out against your equity. If you get a lower mortgage payment, throw any extra money against the principal (assuming you have an emergency fund already)

I think your instinct not to show your house is a good one. I saw another beauty influencer move a few years ago - she did pretty thorough house tours and people on Reddit found the listing for her house pretty quickly. Stay safe and good luck with your move!!
