I personally love my Kindle Paperwhite! It's one of my favorite possessions! It fits in my bag and is waterproof and glare proof. Excellent battery life. My eyes aren't very strong, so being able to change the font size is wonderful for me. Also, being lightweight, they are much easier to read in bed than a 1300 page book (The Count of Monte Cristo ftw!) with its booklight. I can carry 1000s of books with me on a lightweight, distraction free device.
One important aspect of the page turn buttons is that it allows you to turn off touch. Why would you want to do this? I read in the Pool some people in the tub. Wet hands and touch screens don’t go well together as drops will manipulate screen. To activate whole book is open go to hamburger bun[…] menu and choose deactivate touch.
Excellent review. I have the previous gen Oasis (without warm light) and will stick with that in the hope that this year sees a refreshed and better Oasis replacement for it - ideally with a much better battery life too, as well as USB-C charging of course.
This has been the most helpful review to compare the Oasis and new Paperwhite. I upgraded to the Oasis right before the new Paperwhite came out. I know I would have purchased the the Paperwhite if I had the option at that time. After hearing your take on it, I feel at peace about waiting for the new Oasis. Thanks!
Bintou, excellant video. I have had just about every version of the Kindle since the original and the Oasis is my current and my favorite. I use an Origami cover since a lot of the time I will read at lunch while I am alone and the Origami cover is hard to beat as a book stand. I own the Paperwhite and it would be utter perfection IF the power button wasn't at the bottom. That is annoying AF. Other than that, I have no complaints. It fits in all of my purses, which is important, holds a long charge (I read 3+ hours a day and can go more than a week on a single charge), and that amber light is perfection.

I have both. As well as a paperwhite two, and a couple of kobos With the two you're demoing, I prefer the paperwhite. It fits well in my left hand, fingers pointing to your right, thumb up. Kind of sits in the crook of thumb I must have the signature. I got the warm light. Might sound nuts, but I keep the 6.8 in the car as I'm in it more than anywhere. I'm retired. Im with my dog (Bob) we spend a lot of time at the beach, in the country somewhere. Under a tree. And so I usually charge up in the car. I have three power points in the car. One for dash cam, one charges my watch and phone/kindle. The one in the back of the center elbow rests charges my wife's phone if she's out with us. I live a mobile life style. We imported a big rv to new Zealand and we could be anywhere,. Sometimes I just sit in the car and read, window open next to the rv door and chat to my wife while reading. Lol

I agree with you. I feel like the new PW is somewhat overhyped. To be fair I have the Oasis. The Oasis took a long time to grow on me. I thought I would swap for the new PW but I’m going to stick with the Oasis.

So I lost my Oasis so ended up getting the new Paperwhite (not the signature edition). I agree with this video, I really enjoy the PW more and the only reason I got the Oasis was for the buttons.
Actually, you can put a timer on the warm light 😉 mine is the 8G PW 2021, and I love that I just added the timer, and I have the automatic feature too! In terms of battery, the PW21 is a winner for me, compared to my Oasis. In terms of value, I switched gladly and considering I got my PW 21 on sale, it was a fantastic deal!Love it!

Although the Oasis is what I had my eye one. However, there is a new kid on the block called the Scribe, Wil you do a review on this device? BTW your content and presentation was very on point.

I got the new Paperwhite for Christmas because I wanted the warm light. I do wish it had the page turn buttons. I thought about the Oasis for awhile, but I borrowed a friend's and decided I didn't like the size and design of the Oasis. It wasn't worth the price difference just for the page turn buttons. I love my new Paperwhite! (but I do wish they'd add the page turn buttons and move that power button away from the bottom!)
My only complain with the PW, is the screen cover. It's a fingerprint magnet, and doesn't seem to diffuse reflections quite as well as the Oasis. However...I do enjoy holding the PW more, bare handed. I kept it in a case that is also a stand... So, reading with it on my chest isn't a problem at all . The larger advantage of the PW is the battery life (you're actually mentioning this right now and I'm mentioning this). I feel like I actually watch the battery decrease on my Oasis. Very frustrating. I ended up selling my Oasis, simply because I ended up using the PW more.
Heard the pw was problematic. Software and freezing. Have you noticed any of that? Also has the power button at the bottom been a problem at all with accidentally turning the pw off?
@@asianstud7 No... I haven't noticed anything. I may have accidentally put it to sleep once or twice (because of where the button is), but, that's it. I don't think I've had any freezing problems. I think most of that was fixed with an update.

I am a new subscriber. Thanks for the great video. I have owned most of the Kindle versions, except for the DX and the Voyager. I have the first version of the Kindle Oasis (No warm light option) and I love it. The new Paperwhite looks like a good value but the position of the power button and the lack of page turn buttons is a deal breaker for me. The position of the power button on the Oasis is much more intuitive and convenient. You can easily push the power button with your index finger on the Oasis while holding in your right hand. Plus, the power button on the Oasis is not right next to the charging outlet. The page turn buttons on the Oasis are especially convenient if you have a lot of books on your Kindle. I hate having to keep swiping to turn a page on my old Paperwhite because it does not recognize the gesture on the first swipe. I am waiting to see if Amazon updates the Oasis since I would really like the adjustable warm light. However, that feature is not sufficient by itself for me to give up page turn buttons and a more convenient power switch.
I want to buy one of these on Prime day tomorrow. I went to a local store to check them out. I love the way the Oasis feels in the hand. It is so balanced plus the buttons. However the Oasis screen had a lot of ghosting, like screen burn in, and the contrast didn't seem as good as the Paperwhite. The blacks on the Paperwhite looked darker while the Oasis screen looked washed out. They had them in some sort of demo mode so I couldn't play with brightness settings and the store lighting was very bright. Still not sure which to get.

However, I hardly use the Oasis. I much prefer the Kindle app on an 8 inch tablet with color. E-readers are like black and white TVs from the 1950s.

Great review! I really like the new Kindle, but that power button is horrible. I can't prop the kindle up on a table without it powering down bc the weight of the device is enough to press the extremely poorly placed power button.

I definitely recommend it if you've made reading a big goal for yourself! You should know that all of the current kindle devices (the basic, paperwhites and oasis) allow you to listen to audiobooks from audible only. And more importantly, you can't read AND listen at the same time. oh, and no speakers! You would have to connect your kindle to bluetooth headphones or bluetooth speakers.
There is not a huge price difference between the 10th generation Oasis and the 6.8 inch Paper White. In fact I bought both models new for the exact same price the 32gigs version I paid $184 for them. You only read 2 books on the Paper White that is hardly enough to write a review on it. Why not? Well my Signature Paper White quit working after 2 weeks. I had 3 of them die on me within 2 weeks. This is a common issue customers have (Read the 1 and 2 star reviews, I did after the issuesI had and dozens of people had the same problem/ design issue.) reported. I have had 8gig Kindles and for me and many / numerous other people it is not enough storage. Right now it costs $20 more for 32GIGS 4 times the 8gigs storage. FYI Anyone who buys a lot of Comics / Graphic Novels books with a lot of pictures / charts and illustrations will never get by with only 8gigs of storage because those books take up a lot of storage. The Kindle Oasis 10th generation is far superior to the 6.8 inch Paper White it has a superior processor that is noticeably faster in downloading books and loading pages. It has 25 lights vs 16 and the difference is immense. The all metal build quality is miles better than the cheap easily breakable plastic, yes I broke a plastic Kindle in its case when it fell off my bed a 3 foot fall. So no you are not only paying for the page turn buttons. The Oasis is a much better value especially right now when you can buy it for $184 new with 32gigs. The 11th generation Paper White is cheaply made garbage.
