I watched your video and got some great tips for making forged carbon.
I was having a really hard time releasing types.
However, when I compressed the cling wrap I use in the kitchen by putting it in a mold, I was able to release it surprisingly smoothly.
No tools were required and it could be opened by hand.
I believe this is the smoothest method.
Taking shape! Can't wait to see the casting? forging? the end result!
Thank you! I should have a video of the cast/forged part soon.
You can also get Smooth-cast 380, it's a 1:1 system that is designed to be machined and drilled
I’ll have to check it out. Might be a good alternative to what I’m using.
You can microwave (15sec?) the oil base clay to soften it up.
I'll have to give this a try if i ever use this again.
Nice job! Moldmaking is hard. Took me forever to make the first set of proper molds. I used a resin 3d printer for my forged CF molds, which turned out great. I have a timelapse of the entire process on my channel. After all that trouble with designing and mold making, the forging part was a smooth and enjoyable ride.
That’s awesome. I would like to try that or regular 3d printing a mold. Would solve half my problems and probably come in at a much lower cost.
@@CleffersGarage Easy Composites has a great video on forged CF in which they use a 3d printed mold. I believe they also have a video on 3d printing molds. They are super helpful and have answered any questions despite the fact that I am not a customer (they're in the UK I'm in US)
@@CleffersGarage 3D printing is great for one offs, prototypes, and limited runs but the molds won't hold up for production.
@@juanesteban8827depends on the material u print with.
8:30 that's the reason I usually work my way up from dirty cheap material like plaster, soap, sand, plasteline, wood and pvc pipes to high quality hopefully-only-buy-once material like carbon fiber, epoxy etc.
That’s probably the route I should have taken. Ive learned some expensive lessons.
@@CleffersGarage Don't worry, we all did.
For all the work you do in the garage making these molds and stuff, I found a battery powered hot glue gun at harbor freight, bauer brand for like $20 loved it when I was using hot glue to help hold everything together while I was making my molds and didn't have to worry about the cord from the glue gun.
I might have to get one. Thank you.
Very nicely done. Will be trying my luck with this mold making shortly after I gather my materials up ❤
Good luck and let me know if you need help
Great video, I'll be using this as a guide for my project. Have you tried adding in relief holes to push the finished product out? I think I saw something like that done by easy composites
can't wait to see the end part, great job on the video great info on making the molds.
Thank you. The part is curing right now I’m excited to finish it!
Great video,im definetly going to try your mold makeing techniques for my products.would sure like to know use life could be.
Surely the moulding wax would leave good release finish?
It depends on how much time you spend on it to make it look perfect
Can I put this mold in the oven and bake the carbon?
I’m not sure. I have not tried that.
What type of clay you using to model your parts with. i cant seem to find anything good need some help here
Can you use butter as a release agent?
🤣🤣 it might work.
I'm learning the same thing as you hehehe...I've only been learning this thing for 4 days...I know this thing from an Indonesian youtuber..and at the same time I saw your video
Im glad i could help. let me know. if you have any questions.
That resin separates that bad after just a few days. After mine sat for a few months it took FOREVER to get mixed back up. Made another mold 3 days later and thought to myself “mixing will be easy now”. Wrong. It was EASIER, just not easy lol
haha yeah it seams to get any easier to mix.
Did you rub mold release wax ??? Before pouring the mold making gel ?
I didn’t use wax only the spray on chemical release agent
Thank you . Best video on RUclips making a mold . Can’t wait to get mine finished for my mirrors for my 66 f100
@@natalinomonastra96 ooo I bet that’s going to look really nice.
For what purpose this molds???
did you remove air bubbles from resin?
I did not. It probably would have helped a bit but I don’t have a big vacuum pot.
Where did you buy the wax for the plug?
Composite envisions compositeenvisions.com/product/chavant-le-beau-touche-plasteline-non-hardening-clay-2-lb-block/
all this amount of resin to make a mould it will cost a fortune
It is not cheap that is for sure
No to smart r u
This is such a bad way of doing it.....
I am pretty sure easicomposites have a website for US as I first found the US one and was wondering if they deliver to Europe :)
