Kyuho definitely looks like a Korean guy 😂 I’m from Hong Kong and have been living in Canada for almost 35 years, until this day, I find most North Americans still can’t tell the difference between Asians, but most Asians can distinguish ourselves by just looking at each other, our facial features, the way we dress, mannerism, we can just tell 😅

Btw, I love how non-Asian people are always so obsessed with trying to tell apart Asians when no one can distinguish between French, Swiss, German, Austrian etc., by looks alone.

Those blue tea cups looked beautiful! We have a set of ramen bowls that are similar in color that my wife's relative from Japan got us one year. Love using the bowls all the time. One time, I accidently banged one against the sink while washing and it split it half. I wanted to punch myself so hard that day lol.
Glad you got 2 of those cat cups too. I was screaming at the screen, get two get two!!! Lol.
God I feel you with all the walking, especially in hot weather. Last time we were there, when we were in Kyoto for a couple days, each day we did like 30k+ steps. Literal non stop walking from sun rise to sun down. It was wild and I don't know how I was able to walk after that. Feet hurt so bad haha.

I just knew you were going to buy the cute cup with the cat that looked so much like Beemo. When you were deciding on one or two, I was like, "Get two, get two!" I loved the chopstick holders. They were so many. The couples' sets of chopsticks were so neat. I'm going to see if I can find some online. Enjoy Japan. When I was in high school, I thought of traveling to different places, but I did not. Don't worry, though, when I watch your videos, I get to see what other places are like.

Hi Sarah! Hi Kyuho! OMG! I love Kappabashi! I always said that I would need one whole suitcase, just for all of the fun kitchen gadgets. Your chopsticks that you chose are beautiful! I love his and hers sets. When I was 11 and lived in Japan for 3 months, I was so impressed with the fake wax food at restaurants even back then. 😊
I have a question please…..how do you guys plan your trips? Restaurants, shopping, points of interest, etc? That pork tonjiru set looked amazing! How did you find that place?
Summer in Japan is a no-no for me. Nikko in the fall is stunning you guys! If you’ve not ever stayed at a Ryokan, I highly recommend it. Sarah, I’m sure you have, because you lived in Japan. I can see you both walking about in your yukata’s, after having soaked in the hot springs, then enjoying the many different dishes of the incredible meal the ryokan will serve. I have so many memories of the many different ryokan’s that we stayed at, throughout the time we visited. Hontoni natsukashi!
Thanks for sharing your very fun vacation with us!! That fortune you got Kyuho! Awesome, and BTW….. you ARE famous! 😊

We usually do a little research on TikTok and Instagram, and also just browse around Google maps for restaurants in the areas we know we’ll be staying in or around that particular day :)
I (Sarah) did stay in a Ryokan before and loooved the experience. I’d love to go together sometime in a quieter prefecture 🌿

It really depends what your style of travel is. If you want exciting nightlife, Asakusa is not the place to stay, since it’s more of a quiet residential area at night. But we personally love that, since we are usually out all day when we travel and are too exhausted to go partying at night-we just like to go to quiet local pubs :)

Hi both of you. Tokyo and such big cities are a fun little outing (for me) but I try to keep out of them on the regular. Next time you come (to Tokyo) and have a bit more time (& $$$), I would recommend (for kyuho mostly but not exclusively) as he seems to enjoy manual processes to participate at the mogami kogei workshop (taito ward, Tokyo). It is a little spot that offers knowledge on traditional (wood) joinery techniques from the Edo period (1603-1867) found in homes and furniture. Extremely similar to Korean joinery (known as): Somok.
There the third (and eventually the fourth) generation Edo sashimono craftsmen (Yutaka Mogami and Ryo Mogami), will talk about their experiences and knowledge while also providing the highest level of teaching by learning to make chopsticks from a master joiner (as do all apprentice joiners do).
It is an priceless experience (avg ¥30,000/person😅😂). Starting with the wood selection (hard or soft wood) whichever suits you more, after which planing it down to a comfortable fit/grip, trimming it to a simplified octogonal or hexagonal shape.
Creating handmade chopsticks will provide not only an amazing experience but also bring a new appreciation for the craft.
And who knows, it might become something that he will pickup as a pastime for the later years. The fact that you both come back to 🇨🇦, also provides an opportunity to work "new" (untraditional) wood essences. White birch and poplar create some of the palest chopsticks and at the opposite red cedar (BC) or thuja occidentalis (eastern white cedar, will offer reddish colors but subsequently give off coniferous aromas which pair amazingly well with rice, fish/seafoods and meats/wild game.

i think Asians usually say they can ID the type of Asian an Asian is, but while they may be right most of the time, it's still a guess. especially harder if the Asian being Id is raised elsewhere.

Kappabashi...not sure that we should go there, it'd be ONE MORE SUITCASE to drag to the airport....😖😖 For useful kitchen tools,ok, but decorative kitchenware?.....I think we've enough already 😊😊 Recognising Asians..I'm not too bad, I think Koreans dress better and maintain their skin better....? And I'm always listening...Korean always have "...A-SAY-YO" somewhere, whereas Japanese have ".....ASS"... generalizations but ... Of course in Europe there's SO MANY nationalities, from Nordics to Mediterranean types, and North Americans .. Canadians say KAAAANada EH? 😂😂 and then there's the 'Irish' Noofies....their accent is SE Ireland ....with a twist.. 😳😳
