I was a kid in the early 80's in the UK and remember 'gender bending' was a thing that pop stars like Boy George and Marilyn did and as a 9 year old I don't remember it being a big deal, because it wasn't shoved in my face. The closest thing to "drag" that I was exposed to as a child was going to a pantomime. I think the show was Cinderella. Most times in Panto you have a woman playing the "Male Lead" role, and a man or men playing the evil "female role". Cinderella was played by a young woman, Prince Charming was ALSO a woman dressed up; and the ugly step sisters and mother were played by ugly-ass men. It was funny. Wasn't sexual, and even as a kid I remember laughing about how silly they looked. The only thing that didn't make sense in my childlike head was why Prince Charming was being played by a woman? It worked very well to have ugly men (with beards!) playing the ugly step sisters (funny as hell), but why the "good characters"? Never worked that out. What's going on NOW, however... don't even know what to think. So many people deserve locking up and having the keys thrown away it's crazy.

I've had the pleasure to be around individuals who dressed up in Drag and the only time they dressed up is when they were scheduled to do a performance or going live. But he has a point tho. The closest thing to "drag" that I was exposed to as a child was going to a pantomime. I think the show was Cinderella. Most times in Panto you have a woman playing the "Male Lead" role, and a man or men playing the evil "female role". Cinderella was played by a young woman, Prince Charming was ALSO a woman dressed up; and the ugly step sisters and mother were played by ugly-ass men.
It was funny. Wasn't sexual, and even as a kid I remember laughing about how silly they looked. The only thing that didn't make sense in my childlike head was why Prince Charming was being played by a woman? It worked very well to have ugly men (with beards!) playing the ugly step sisters (funny as hell), but why the "good characters"? Never worked that out.

My older son saw his first transvestite on the street when he was 5. I could see the confusion on his face this hulking man, pure deep manly voice, full facial hair but dressed as a woman. All I said was "yes, that's a man and he likes to wear ladies clothes". End of discussion. There was no taking him to drag shows or any other adult space etc needed.

I'm a conservative and really do not have a problem with this gay man and his lifestyle. It's none of my business how he wants to dress or who he sleeps with.
