I love your music Mike and The Waterboys! I want be on your all concerts. I want to see you and hear you again! You are my favourite band. I never heared more beautifull music than yours. I talk with you in Liverpool I was really touched.
My 'fave' band changed monthly as i discovered different ones and as i listened and overlistened to different songs. when i found the waterboys they've been my fave band ever since. impossible to over listen to any of the magic
I saw The Waterboys do this song on Late Night With David Letterman.I think Mike Scott is a great songwriter.Right up there with Dillford/Tillbrook of Squeeze, Lennnon/McCartney Tom Petty,Just great great fucking songwriting.Dig the audio pictures. She moaned like a woman, and gave sweet head what !!!
Scott use to go out with a scottish girl that was always so sleepy, so one day he commented "if they had sleep competitions at olympics games you could sleep for Scotland".. and that's all :D
I am not a local but I've been living in Edinburgh for years. Scotts use the expression "do sthng for Scotland". Most common one I came across is "to eat for Scotland" that means someone likes to eat a lot. So I guess the sleep is the same case:)
Waterboys frontman Mike Scott came up with this song's title while dating a woman who was always difficult to awake. "She slept like a rock," he told Billboard magazine. "When we were together, I came up with that phrase. I said, 'You could sleep for Scotland,' meaning if there was an Olympic category for sleeping, you could represent Scotland." Having come up with a song title, Scott stored it, waiting for inspiration to strike. "It stuck with me," he said. "Who knows why songs happen when they happen, but it became a song."
Someone on 2021?

What means 'slept for scotland'? I'm from Austria and don't understand this adage.

The only song on the album I can’t get into.
