on reflection what's interesting about my mistake is that I was thinking about exceptional ppl I've met in other areas of life, w physical stuff it's visually obvious, and 1 in 100 is completely amazing. Not sure I've even met 1 in 1000.
@@ChessDojo Chesscom's rating stats say that 2150 rapid is 99.9 percentile, but they are probably counting all their accounts ever created including people who barely know the rules or played just once. By that metric, almost every experienced amateur bicyclist would be in the 99.9 percentile compared to the entire population that rode a bicycle at least once in their life.

Jesse is the only person from New Mexico that ever became a grandmaster. There was one master in NM (Stephen Sandager) when Jesse was growing up. The best player at that time in Santa Fe was a CM (Chris Candelario). Jesse became a gm in a literal desert. You have to be a fan.
Maybe I’m tired but it actually blew my mind when he finished going through the game and said we reached the position from the beginning of the video. I think that’s the blitz player in me that automatically tries to rattle off bad moves cuz I don’t always take the time to think it through. There was so MUCH in that endgame position it really didn’t feel like it was from the same game. Thanks for the great content!
I didn't believe that USCF experts really made that many mistakes with wasting time, but I checked my last few tournament games, and what do you know? In every single game, time was a major factor in determining the result. I'd just never conceptualized the errors in that way before. Thank you, Jesse.
@@ChessDojo bro I've run out of crack so I need the next best thing, or else I'm going to rob a liquor store or something 😬 I'll tell the judge it's your fault
That percentile is deceiving. It's like taking into account every person that runs in some capacity and saying you are in 1% of the world's top athletes. But if you compare yourself to competitive athletes, you might be in the top 20% or worse. So only percentages based on the FIDE rated players make sense. These online ratings are inflated and take into account anyone who's ever created a chess account. If you want to set the bar low and call yourself one percenter because you're also counting those 400 ELO people who don't even know the chess rules...
There is a lot to learn from Jesse but he’s so long-winded and insufferable. He makes you suffer his terrible outlook on life and commentary before sharing constructive chess and it’s obnoxious. He reeks of being full of himself which is obvious insecurity for obvious failure outside of chess. He should trade chess lessons for EQ lessons.
99.9 is not one out of a 100. It's one out of one thousand.
this is obviously a great point :-)

@@NoOne-so7jt I wonder how the stat would change for a smaller sample size of lets say everyone above 1200
@@ChessDojo I earned a badge on Chessable that says I'm "1 in 1,000" (and another badge says I'm "6 in 10,000".... So, I think I've made it.)😂

Haha I knew it would be bad if Jesse looked at one of my games (ThorBiddles) but also very helpful. Thank you!!

Excellent analysis by Jesse. Some Andersson endgames might help I think!
I would like to see koustia make a video on this series.
Jesse is so smart that he cuts away from the nonsense.
The secret part of this video is Jesse indirectly telling me that I am the reason he stopped doing my favorite dojo event (Sunday night fights)
Great video
