Pathways is such a cool name for a thriller, really different than what I would expect. But the more I think about how it could have a dual meaning besides being the name of the company, Pathways gives a creepy vibe about the characters deciding which path they take throughout the book.

That’s definitely my feeling about the title and so I’m glad that it’s coming across! ☺️

I'm so excited for this book, I really want good things for it!!!
I have to admit though, I HATE cold opens in Thrillers. They're popular so I know it's a me problem but I just find them to be huge spoilers and I can't tell you how many times a book was ruined for me from the cold open. When I pick up a thriller I KNOW "shits gonna go down" so I have no problem waiting for it. Thrillers are already shorter than Sci-fi as it is and I read a lot of that so it always goes quick for me. So my new policy is to never read the cold open in Thrillers, I skip them and only come back and read them when I finish the book.

That’s so interesting!! And I guess it’s true because a lot of cold opens are a scene from later in the book, so I supposed it is a spoiler. But that’s great that you found a system for working around it haha

I hope this book gets picked up for submission. You listened to so many in a matter of days. I found some new books to try. Love the cooking B Rolls. Thanks for sharing your month with us. Oh, and your dog is so cute. Is that a beagle?

I love reading thrillers! I don’t read them too often, but when I do, I enjoy them! I’m super excited for PATHWAYS and hope you can go on sub with it soon! It sounds really good. I’m so impressed you read so many books! I’ve also been a sensitivity reader for a few thrillers, so if you need me once you get an editor… 👀👀
Since you’ve read so many Adult thrillers, I also want to recommend my friend Hollie Overton’s Adult thrillers. She is a TV drama writer and also a novelist working on her fourth book. She’s been a role model for me as I want to do both TV drama writing and novel writing. She has three published Adult thrillers and I’ve read all of them! I especially recommend her first book, BABY DOLL. 🥰
I’m super intrigued by the time travel thriller you mentioned! I will check it out! 😍

Thanks for the thriller recommendation! I’ll have to look her books up. And I hope I’ll be on sub soon too, we’ll see

I'm really glad things are coming together for you (crossing my fingers about all the possible lovely news it could be)! And omg reducing word count lol...trying to do some of that rn (from 105k to 99k before querying in July and ahhh lol). That's so interesting about the cold opens and how the majority of the 5 you mentioned then had them. I can def see how that can propel a reader forward especially if things don't go bonkers until the midpoint. I actually have The Housemaid and planned to get to it soon. Wishing you well that submissions start in May and things go super, super well!

Thank you!! And you can do it re: the word count reduction! It’s a tedious process but sometimes necessary. And good luck in advance with querying too!!
And yeah I didn’t realize how popular the cold open is in thrillers. I associate it with horror but it’s def more common to read in a thriller. And I hope that you’ll enjoy the housemaid! It’s a wild ride for sure haha

I really like your non spoiler synopsis. Saying things go down us enough for me to want to read it. May i ask what program do you work in to write?

I’m glad! I use Plottr to outline, draft and edit in scrivener, and use Microsoft word for my final line level edits and beyond.
