    0:00 💰 Understanding the concept of premium is crucial when buying gold bars or coins, as it represents the additional cost over the spot price.
    1:16 🔄 Buying smaller gold bars or coins offers flexibility in taking advantage of price fluctuations and selling in smaller increments.
    4:36 🏦 Gold bars come in two main types: minted bars with intricate designs and cast bars, which may offer lower premiums but less aesthetic appeal.
    6:32 🪙 Gold coins, while typically having higher premiums, have the advantage of being legal tender, providing a guaranteed face value by the issuing government.
    7:55 📈 Cash bars offer a smart way to maximize value when buying physical gold, as they typically have lower premiums compared to coins or minted bars.

  • @P37RU5
    @P37RU5  4 года назад +17

    I did not mentioned on the video that the most common sizes of gold coins are 1/10 of an ounce, 1/4 of an ounce, half ounce and 1 ounce.
    Also, bigger bullion items such as 1 kilo gold bar have lower liquidity over smaller gold items as it is much easier and faster to sell 1 oz of gold than 1 kilo (32.15 oz) gold bar.
    Your local gold or coin dealer might not have immediate funds available to buy an 1 kilo gold bar. With that in mind, for fast cash, smaller portions of gold such as 100 grams, 1 ounce or smaller pieces will always offer liquidity advantage whenever you decided to exchange your gold back to currency

    Dear Sir: really happy to have discovered you. Question: as a Stacker and not a collector , bars are the best even in Gold ? Are they that easy to re-sell ? I thought that it was easier to re-sell Gold & Silver Metal Leafs, for an example, and in one of your video you say that the Philharmonic is the best because very sought for in Europe ? Finally: i never knew what legal tender meant for real: how do they determine that 1 oz gold gives 50 $CDN !? Cheers to you!

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад +3

      In theory, there are few advantages with legal tender coins. Although, no one would use a gold or silver legal tender coin to go to a supermarket because the legal tender value in the coin is much smaller than its metal value.
      two advantages of the legal tender coins are to be exempt of taxes, as you move your gold from a country to another, the local law might charge taxes on your gold; however, if your gold coins are consider currency as they have legal tender, these local governments can not easily charge taxes on currency.
      Other idea advantage behind the legal tender coins is that if in the future there is a gold confiscation like happened in 1933, these legal tender coins would not be confiscated because it is considered currency. That would be the same as opening your wallet and taking your money. (I don't believe there will be a gold confiscation ever again).
      I don't know how do they determine the legal tender value; nevertheless, when these legal tenders/face value were assigned to gold coins, the gold price was much lower.
      The Gold Maple Leaf legal tender has a face value of 50 Canadian dollars, but this face value was assigned to the coins in 1979. back then the price of 1 oz of gold was $400

      @P37RU5: May I ask, in today’s market, what is a competitive premium for gold coins at a coin shop. I typically shop for the American Eagles and Buffalo. Again, thank you.

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  4 года назад +1

      I would say that until 3% premium is a good deal and from 3.5% until 5% is a fair deal. Nevertheless, the premium depends on the amount of gold weight and the type of bullion that you are buying.
      At the moment the coins from the US Mint (eagle and buffalo) are coming with a high premium as the US mint is with low capacity of production; consequently, not being able to attend the demands.
      There is a beautiful coin from the Perth Mint that I really want to buy but the premium is at 6.2% at the moment.
      I really want this coin but I am a bit reluctant to pay this premium, even though this “premium” already includes a “free delivery”.
      My emotional side wants to buy the coin, but my rational side doesn’t allow me

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад +1

      Hello mixonayers!
      I don't have a precise answer for that; however, I guess it will depend on who is buying the gold. Some buyers will buy the gold and send it back to refineries to melt it down and transform in something else, so for them keeping the bars on the assay card is not necessary. On the other hand, If you sell the bar privately for a stacker or collector he or she might prefer keep it in the assay card and use the veriscan to check the authenticity.

    • @billmase2458
      @billmase2458 Год назад

      i love how this comment was hearted but never answered hah.
      here is my two cents, the mints will maintain a higher premium over the casts even if you remove the mint from its package. the premium's you'll get when selling gold are low compared to the ones you'll pay from large reliable* gold merchants in most any case. Still you should try to get 1-2% or more above melt(spot) value. a good thing to do is keep all the receipts especially if you're investing in larger bars, as they are more prone to be counterfeited

      @P37RU5  3 года назад

      Hello Anil,
      I prefer the 24k gold as it is the purest form of gold that a person can buy and it is prettier. The 24k gold has a nicer yellow color. On the other hand, the 24k gold is softer and must be handled with care to avoid scratches and finger marks.
      In most countries, either 22k and 24k gold are exempt of taxes. Coins made in 22k and 24k gold are common and easy to find; however, gold bars will come mostly on 24k.
      22k gold bars are NOT common or easy to find. I am not even sure if they are being produced at the moment.
      I don’t know how the taxes on bullion are applied in Asian countries; although, in the USA and Europe any 22 or 24k gold are exempt of taxes.
      24k gold is 99.9% pure gold
      22k gold is 96.12% pure gold

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад

      Hello PT,
      Yes, you are right! It is ridiculous that the 1 oz Gold eagle has a face value of just $50.
      I know these face values were set many years ago when the price of gold was lower, but these values should be updated time to time. I am quite sure that more Gold eagles would be sold if the face value was at least $500.

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад +2

      Hello Filip,
      The certificate (assay card) serves as guarantee by the refinery that the gold minted meets the purity standards inscribed on the card. This helps you feel confident that you buy precious metals knowing that their true purity and authenticity has been tested and guaranteed by the mint/refinery.

      In my opinion yes, it is a good time to buy gold.

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад

      The premium on jewellery is incredible high, you probably would have to wait long time to brake even. I wouldn't recommend jewellery as investment. The premium that you describe above is 30%, so you would have to wait the price of gold to go 30% up to break even.... normally gold goes up 30% in 18-24 months; however, these gold bars and coins on the video have 3 - 5 % premium and with a little bit of luck you can recover your investment in a week

    • @ahmedsgallery3507
      @ahmedsgallery3507 3 года назад

      @@P37RU5 True. jewelry costs more because of craftsman work etc. not a good idea for investments for sure. just pure bars is what's it worth for. I think in Middle East gold premium is way cheaper than here in US as well. Abu Dhabi is a great example of cheap premium and actually benefits you in the long run. I was specifically talking about a brand called Mene. their premium is stupid high.

    • @P37RU5
      @P37RU5  3 года назад +1

      You are right! The only advantage that I see in jewellery is the fact that you can not travel out of countries with large amount of cash, gold coins or gold bars. The limits in US is 10.000 dollars and in Europe 10.000 EUR, any higher amount than this you would have to declare and possibly pay taxes; however, it is absolutely fine if you take an airplane and leave the country with a ring of 20,000 dollars in your finger or a necklace for example 😉
