    Rules for Kyus:
    1. Play in the smallest area of the board.
    2. Bump/attach against, or armpit hit, your opponents stones to make them stronger.
    3. Again, and we can't stress this enough: If your opponent claimed a small area: Invade it!!! You can't let them have points!!!
    4. Make that stone live, from the inside. You will be able to reduce that influence anyway. (See rule 3. Repeat if neccesary.)
    5. When that stone lives connect it to another living group, to make it 200% alive and avoid "Schroedinger's cat"-state groups. (Frequently seen in Kyu games, 💯% alive groups can die anytime, thus they are both alive AND dead until both players agreed the game is over - therefore you need them 200% alive to make sure they will make it until counting)
    6. Don't. Ever. Read. Your opponent doesn't either.
    7. Don't. Ever. Count. Libs. (Good chances are you will get it wrong above two anyway.)
    (Anyother rules are welcome to be added. All rules are open for discussion)
    (I'm Kyu too 😉)

      Merry Christmas -- you've hit it right on the head. Even on KGS where kyu ranks are equal with Korea (most strong), lots of the things you just listed happen. I have to play 1-2 Kyus there in long play to avoid most of the 7 points you just made. However for 1-2K's I would add
      8. Shape is a thing, just only make it for yourself, don't every deny good shape to your opponent in a fight where you have to actually win.
      9. Sente is never important, don't get sente or know when you need it EVER.
      10. Start fights over medium sized territories when large moyos are given to opponent. you take 24, and give them a 50+ point area that you then have to jump in and reduce to win -- lots of work

    Mistake videos are fun to watch and useful. Good content, please make more of them! :D

    Thanks, I appreciated the analysis. Talking about common kyu mistakes, why they are wrong, and what the player should be trying to do is very helpful for me.

    So you asked in a previous video what go content that you make do we prefer to watch. Personally your content with Andrew i find the most enjoyable, this is probably do to being able to listen to both of your view points on the game. My favorite go video that you are in is actually on Andrew's channel, where you, Andrew, and Frank all played a bunch of matches. Like i stated before it probably stems from being able to get both view points on the game, but also that we get to witness you in a match were you really don't want to lose due to the friendly banter both of you partake in while your playing causing you to make questionable moves.

    Hey Nick, I understand why those are mistakes. However, even though I am stronger now, I still remember some of the things I was thinking when I was a DDK player. When I was pushing on the second line like Black did at 10:35, my reasoning was: "The corners and sides of the board are where you can make territory. White's plan was to make territory on the right side, so if I block the edge of the board, he can never make territory there and his whole plan is foiled!" Also at 12:12, I don't think Black was thinking about L&D, it's just that weaker players hate to let their opponent get the monkey jump because it takes so much territory away.
    So what I am saying is that DDK players have their own reasoning since they don't have a feeling for where the potential is and what is big and what is small. Sometimes your arguments are a bit too high-level to explain to these players where they went wrong :)

    Hey nick, long time viewer, I’m looking to get a new go board, any suggestions? And what sellers would you recommend, I’m looking at about 100-200$. Keep up the great work! Starting next month I will be a patron! :)

    Merry Christman St. Niccholus Sibicky .. Do you know if this 7K game was a blitz or semi-speed game? like 5 min. per side and 20-30S boyomis??? That would explain a lot. I don't think I've played on KGS against 7 or 8 Kyus and had them do this poorly. This looks like 9-10K play to me-- at least in the opening....

    Hey Nick, is there a reason you dont like using them/their instead of he/she and his/her in order to gender pronouns? Saying his or her sounds a bit cumbersum.

    • @LegendStudioGames
      @LegendStudioGames 6 лет назад

      White is feminine & order.
      Black is masculine & chaos.
      It's part of the zen of the game.

    • @Zyhmet
      @Zyhmet 6 лет назад

      @@LegendStudioGames Yeah but Nick doesnt use it like that. I know some just use the female pronoun for white and the male for black. But Nick doesn't, in my view rightly, do this like at 12:37.
      Which in turn creates a bit of a slowdown/hiccup in the explanation which would in my opinion be avoided by using "their"
