Not for anything..this is the best video I've seen for setting up a rear derailleur. Explained so well.
Just got mine today. I am very impressed. The whole installation took me about 1,5 hours including the chainring change and fine tuning. I put it on my 11 years old trekkingbike. Works perfectly. I am happy with it.
Just installed this on my 2015 Giant Talon. Fantastic smooth shifting. Great product!
Your videos are spot on. I just installed your 9 speed, followed the video step by step, and had zero issues. Incredible product and value!
Microshift does a great job in supporting their products. I completely missed the B-screw washer portion of this video. Gave you guys a call and the rep Matt Campbell got me taken of super quick! Shifts awesome and my bike is super quiet now. Coming from a max cog of a 34, the 42 feels like a dream!
Just bought the advent groupset with the pro shifter I am so far really impressed with quality and price of these parts. Thanks for a really clear instructional.
I just changed my 2020 Talon hardtail over to a 1x9 advent clutch derailleur yestrday, coming from having a shimano acera garbage derailleur before the upgrade, I can't say enough great things about the new drivetrain uterally in shock as 2 how easy it went on the bike & eliminated all chainslap/ chain falls, over 60 kms not 1 chain fall, even once over toughest roughest terrain of bumps, jumps, roots, rocks in my local trails & is even better then advertised !! WOW I would recommend this drivetrain to anyone likes 2 ride more, then fussing with crap stock deralliuer/cassette drivetrain comes on most entry level bikes. $225/Can. installed including the kick ass new shimano chain blinged my bike right out was the cherry on the cake !
Just got me an advent 9 speed can’t wait to install it with my new cassette
Thank you...I had to adjust mine after 1500+ miles in the last 6 months of owning my new trike...the shop in business near me for over 35 years didn't have a bike stand that could lift my trike for them to be able to adjust the shifter cable...I put my hydralic floor jack under my trike jacked it up, used a 5 gallon bucket of chlorine pool tablets to hold the front of the trike down and made adjustments to the high screw to bring the derailer back into position...not as well done as the bike shop could do but saved $120
Thanks to your video i was able to set my son gear properly. I would have make it worser otherwise. Thank you
I got this stock on the bike I just bought. I was planning on making a bunch of new upgrades through the next year. I still am doing most of those upgrades but I am now planning on keeping the adventx on it. Man it shifts like butter.
Thanks. It's really helpful. Got my first multispeed bike (fixie guy) with this derailleur and was a bit confused about fine-tuning.
Thank very much my talon 2 with this derailleur way off on the adjustment the chain was skipping and and getting caught between 2 cogs now it's all quiet and shift smoothly
works great. if you use a KMC 9 speed chain and a 38t front chain ring and the 42t rear cog as the biggest you don't even have to resize the chain.
I needed to watch the part about the upshift/downshift levers several times before I figured out which is which!
it works ^^ just had to adjust a little because the derailerwas slow going to smaller cogs
Loved this. Just wish I paid attention to the chain routing a bit more since I placed it underneath the little tab thing on the derailleur
We've all done it!
I am happy with the AdventX so far .. few weeks so far. Right now, i have a 36t chain ring. It is good enough to climb hills, but not enough for pedaling downhill. Instead of 36t, 11-48t/400%, I'd rather have 44t, 11-56t/500% range. I'd rather have 5t between cogs, instead of 4. More range, wider between gears.
today I ordered the derailleur and the lever I am looking forward to reach me I will use the video to mount them correctly
I have an 8 speed 11-40t and i have a microshift derailleur which is 5 years old. My old cog is 11t-32t and when i upgraded to11-40t the mechanic troed to adjust it and i even bought a goatlink but the tune keeps on jumping.
I am planning to buy advent rear derailleur. I am asking if it is compatible to a 3x8speed 11-40t on the cogs
Overally very well done video. I'm impressed Microshift!
Thanks! We would give you a high five, but the internet is not really convenient in this case.
What chain ring would you need
Would help so much if they just marked out the high/low limiter adjustment screws
Hi, is this available for Singapore?
I’m switching an old derailleur to this one will I need to put more or less links in??
Also does it matter that my cassette isn’t in the same configuration of how many teeth on eAch cog
Hey George, it depends on what old derailleur you had. The cage length and pulley sizes can change. We recommend putting on a new chain if you already have some miles on them. We also recommend using the ADVENT cassette because the cog combination is the closest to how the guide pulley moves on the derailleur. For additional assistance, feel free to email us: service@microshift.com for North America or service@microshift.com.tw for other countries. Thanks!
Is the Advent X derailleur compatible with any thumb shifters?
Its compatibile with any 9 speed switch
Question would I have to remove links from the chain to make it shorter since I am upgrading from the cheap shimano 1 x 9 to a advent microshift 1 x 9? Chain is hanging kind of loose.
Depending on the setup. You can double check the chain length by following the procedure at @3:48. If it is too long, then you can cut it!
Thank you for replying. I ended up removing one chain link and it is now working smoothly with improved tension to the chain.
WHAT CHAIN DO I PURCHASE FOR AN ADVENT X GROUPSET?
Any chain is fine. We usually run KMCs =).
I have this deraileur and have snapped 5 cables in 2 months at the rear deraileur. They rub while shifting fray and then snap there. Anyone experienced this with this deraileur? Suggestions?
5 cables are a lot! Please contact us at service@microshift.com, so we can possibly troubleshoot for you.
I can’t get my chain onto the lowest cog
Is microshift also using the same damned JIS bolt heads as old shimano derailleurs did? I think You should go to allen bolts in a batch change ASAP. First thing I'd mod if I'd buy one.
Thanks for the feedback. We're happy to tell you that it's already on the way to the market! Keep an eye out for it.
I have a 44/32/22 11/32 older Shimano drivetrain on my bike. It's worn out and needs to be replaced. Would this Advent 11/42 or 11/46 setup be a good fit for my hard tail? I ride xc only with a lot of hill climbing. What about the front? Could I just delete the FD and run in the 32t ring?
If you have a lot of hills, the 11-46 cassette might be better. I would get rid of the front derailleur, remove your chainrings, and replace the middle one with a narrow wide 32t or 30t ring. There are many guides online about how to do that.
Thanks for the nice video! My microSHIFT is not stable at the smallest gear - it shifts back to a prev one under the load. Which screw should I adjust?
Do you have a ADVENT derailleur? Or are you referring to a different microSHIFT derailleur?
@@microSHIFTTECH Yes, I have. I'm referring to the one from the video.
@@btcrew1937 Try re-aligning the guide pulley with the outer edge of the smallest cog. Loosen the H limit screw, which is the bottom screw in the back of the derailleur. Then readjust the barrel adjuster on the shifter. If you are still having trouble, contact us at service@microshift.com.
@@microSHIFTTECH yes thanks for the vid 4 shure. I also wanted to know about this high limit question.
@microSHIFT - Can I use this with the Acolyte shifter and cassette?
Unfortunately not, as the acolyte is a 8 speed and the advent group is a 9 speed group.
I’m piecing your drivetrain together and One of my friends is giving a free xx1 eagle 12 speed chain. Would I be able to make it work with this?
12 speed chain is going to be too narrow for ADVENT. Probably best to sell it or hang on to it until when you need it!
I just order the Advent X parts for my 2019 Trek Marlin 7 I am replacing the 3x crank set any recommendations? What do I look for as far as compatibility goes? Thanks!
You can contact us at service@microshift.com on the specifics. Our service guys should be able to help you with it.
I bet the Hollowtech design IXF Crankset with Exo BB would convert you to 1x9 very nicely.
I just swapped to them from a Square Taper BB on my Hyper MTB.
Sweet upgrade !
@@microSHIFTTECH Worked out great been running it for a month nice and smooth crisp shifting I highly recommend it Thanks!
@@rjahn3000 Sweet!
My advent 9 speed cassette is slightly loose... How do I tighten it up please?
👍👍👍
If your cassette lock ring it torqued to 40nm, there is a good chance the play is between your freehub and hub shell which is normal. Please reach out to us through the service tab at microSHIFT.com as needed.
i bought the rd-m6205am advent x rd 1x10 and it comes with a plastic piece which looks like it fits over the top tension sprocket. I dont see mention of that in the instruction- what is the purpose? it looks like it might be a measurement tool.
i meant to say the plastic piece fits over the top guide pulley. I dont know what purpose it serves and the video did not mention it
It is meant to help measure the gap between the guide pulley and the largest cog on your cassette. It helps you really precisely set the B-tension screw during setup. We have a video about it, if you check out the rest of our channel.
Is the advent rear derailleur direct mount or a standard mount to frame hanger?
Just regular direct attachment to the frame hanger.
microSHIFT TECH thank you. Ill give it a try hopefully it will work on my frame
I run a microshift advent derailleur 11-46 t microshift cassette and shifter I live in to so cal mountains with really high climbs and very fast and rocky downhills and microshift never lets me down it with stands all the abuse a wreck less rider throws at it
I have one question. While putting cable to the housing and screwing it in, what setting on the barrel should it be? Max clockwise?
For our stuff, max clockwise is usually best. Some Shimano systems recommend that you set it a couple rotations from max clockwise in order to be able to release tension from the system on setup.
@@microSHIFTTECH Thank you for reply. I have last question. I have derailleur from the video. In my case the chain is quite loud on each gear, is it normal? Btw I am using it with 8 gear casette (also microshift which is compatible with this derailleur.
I am asking, because on sram gx on different bike (10 gears) its quite in most of the gears (middle)
Is this groupset available in Brazil? How much does it cost?
Yes. Please contact our Brazilian distributor in regards to availability and price.

@@microSHIFTTECH Thanks!
What number is "highest gear? Is it 1 or 9? If my rear cassette only has 7 cogs do I then set it to "7" ?
Highest gear is the one you go fast. Just like on a car. So smallest cog.
why does mine have a ticking sound on certain gears? how do you resolve that?
9 times out of 10 that's a cable tension issue.
Hello ,I like your channel but can you also make video for road arsis or centos groupset . Explaination and reviews ,please 🥺👍
Working on it!
Can you do the changes with the clutch on ?
Yes. We only advice to turn the clutch off, so it is easier to take the wheel or chain on and off. While adjusting the derailleur, you will need to leave the clutch on.
microSHIFT TECH thanks bro
I see a cable protection where the cable leaves the derrailleur to be attached with the screw. Is that a special cable? cause my cable doesnt have it and it is damaging the derrailleur MIn 2:51.
You can use a nosed housing endcap on the derailleur side of the housing.
My Jamis Trail X A1 did not have this cable protector from the factory. Frayed shift cable in 2 years as I'm a daily commuter. It's not a great design, maybe the only flaw in a otherwise perfect drive train. I'll invest in a nosed housing endcap and seen what happens with the new cable.
Looks like in my country this is referred to as Lined end caps, knowing that term might be good for anyone else searching.
@@practicalguy973 thanx mate
Can I use the long cage derailleur with a one by drivetrain?
Do you mean if you can use the long cage ADVENT rear derailleur with a 1x setup?
@@microSHIFTTECH yes, I ordered a long cage advent derailleur for a 1x setup. Will I have any problems ?
I really appreciate your reply :)
Edit: I also ordered the 11-42t cassette, and advent 9 spd shifter.
@@LuisOrtiz-fb1hn Long cage can work with 1x. The only difference you might notice is more chain slap, but it shouldn't affect your shifting performance!
@@microSHIFTTECH You guys rock!! Thank you for your help :)
Yes, you can. Have built two mid-drive Ebikes with this setup - and those have had but *one* chainring.
Both of them used long-cage derailleurs, and the second instance has a 42 - 12(?) Microshift cassette. I have *no* trouble with hills!
2:18 I mean I know it's supposed to be budget, but that is one big hole of an invite for water penetration. How is this gonna survive?
Thanks again for the feedback. For a man with a hard to spell name, you are also very hard to please. We are also happy to say that new products are on the way to the market, and it's going to say no no to water (and other things you don't want).
