I just did this for my 2017 Sierra. The shape of the plastic that you cut into is a different shape for my model/year. With a 2 1/8" hole saw, I cut two holes about an inch apart, then cut the center piece separating the two holes to get a similar shape as this video. In my case, I centered the overall pattern horizontally and just a bit higher than center vertically. This gave me a very clean cut. I completely eyeballed it to get the position of the hole and it turned out great.
Looks like the template (and the GM plan) for the cut-out are much bigger than necessary. Looks like one could just cut a narrow rectangle. A more narrow cut-out might even eliminate the need for the foam (filler).
Hey Thanks for the Vid! I'll be installing my tow hooks today and I was going to make a video because I did not see one that explained as well as you did so no need for me to make another video. Btw, I did make a video on how I installed the OEM fog lights. Liked and Subbed
Thanks for watching. I hope it was helpful. I wasn't going to record this but I learned after research there weren't many videos so I decided to. I'm probably going to do the fog lights next but I know the dealer has to flash the ecu for the lights to work properly so I don't know how far I can go.
@@mrdiy1601 yes, that is true. The dealer will need you code the ecu. However, there's a workaround if you hardwire the foglights. I installed the version that keeps the foglights on as long as the headlights are on.
I just order some new tow hook inserts from Amazon! I'm going to trace them and transfer them to my factory covers. Get a torch heat a Stanley knife blade and melt the cut out off. Then install and send the new ones back to Amazon.
Do you know or anyone what size bolts they are? I’m installing some on mine since mine never came with towing hooks I need to find out the size of the hardware thanks!
Do you still have the measurements for the template? I am about to do the same thing, just don’t have time to run to a dealer to trace. Or it would be cool if you could scan a copy of it to be printed.
It fit pretty good. I made it nearly the same size as factory (as i was able to measure another persons truck cut outs) and it was a little tight getting it into the frame rail thru the foam. If it were much smaller it may be a bit difficult.
What’s up man. I have the same truck as you and I recently bought some tow hooks but the problem I’m having is the hook end does not fit in between the frame to screw so I’m thinking they sent the wrong ones. Do you know the model number or part number for this truck?

The inside passenger side spot has a mold of the cutout already present in the plastic. You can just trace it for both sides.
It’s on the back of the plastic on both sides of my 2020 Silverado. You gotta be under the vehicle to see it.
For anyone wanting details on the template, i plan to upload another video this weekend just about the template and how i made it in detail.
following for template ! Thanks looks good!
Same! Was hoping for a template soon!
Wheres the video lol

8 inches wide 3 3/4 tall
Does the tow hook fit good trough the opening or you can cut it smaller

What is the purpose of the foam insert.
The foam is a factory snow / mud block to keep debris out.

Part No. : 84192871
Part No. : 84280202 This is the correct one for 2019-2021 model in red. The other below is for 2018 model I had.
