Great stream, Rob. BigHeadTaco just did a DLux 8 review that I enjoyed. My EpL8 is often my everyday cam. & even with the little ext. Evf it's great fun.
WR is also about dust getting into lens and camera. WR lenses tend to have much less issues with dust getting inside system. And if rain catches me without umbrella or raincoat, at least Im sure that camera in bag is completely safe even if water leaks in bag :) WR should simply be standard for any lens above cheapest kitlens. And for example Pentax has even affordable lenses with WR. DA18-55/3.5-5.6WR, DA16-85WR, DA18-135/3.5-5.6WR, DA50-200WR, DA55-300WR
Oly 14-150II and even Oly 12-50 are nice affordable options. I also have 12-100/4 which sure is optically superior, but for normal use during hiking trips it is a bit too heavy and I can trade some image quality for portability.
Hey Rob, thanks for another great chat... I always learn something! Question: What if any is the difference between using "manual mode" and using one aperture/ only adjusting the shutter to control the exposure VS using "aperture priority mode" and using the other dial as an exposure adjuster? When I use the manual mode method it takes a lot of clicks to adjust the shutter speed ... Maybe the aperture mode method requires fewer clicks? If so are the leaps per click adjustable ? Thanks!
Concerning RAW file size, Oly XZ-2 has 19MB .orf files no matter what you shoot :) Quite a lot for 12Mpix camera, but there is no compression. Stylus1s which has same sensor but better CPU has smaller RAW files thanks to lossless compression of RAW.
The brand differentiation for OM System dictates that weather sealing is important.
When the OM-1 Mark II was released there were also two new lenses introduced, including the 8-19mm f4-5.6 II, which is similar to the previous version, and the more interesting 150-600mm f5-6.3 IS super telephoto zoom lens.
Thanks, Dave. I totally forgot they came out at the same time.
That killed me... I want m43 lenses, not FF lens conversions.
Rather than a camera or yet another lens. more often it is the light that makes the photo and ALL fail in this category. I wish Nikon - or others - would have come up with their own internal flash trigger and a flash/speed light/LED ecosystem to build upon much like a Bowens mount, etc. for studio or portable use for outdoors No need for external hot shoe triggers and cables but being built into the body for TTL, HSS, fill percentages, ratios, better WB, stacking, weatherproofing for longer telehotos for wildlife as a BetterBeamer, etc. It's a mess right now, imho.
It would be nice. I know Olympus has the "RC" mode for flash. It uses either the cameras built-in flash or Olympus branded flash on the hot shoe. You can then control any other Olympus branded flash. It relies on the optical triggers but did support TTL and HSS (FP).
Robin Wong's assessment of the 14mm f/2.5's AF is inaccurate. I think he was referencing the Pany 20mm, which is quite slow. I've had 2 copies of the 14mm and it's fast, but not as fast as other premium lenses (splitting hairs here). Many other's have also said so. However, the Pany 12-32, Oly 14-42 EZ and Pany 14-42 PZ all offer similar size and performance at 14mm but without the f/2.5. It boils down to: are you a prime guy or not?
I've been looking into this lens myself. Supposedly version 2 of this lens had quieter and maybe faster AF. I'm holding off since my 14-42 EZ is pretty close at f/3.5. I'm thinking maybe going with the 15mm f/1.7.
@@RobTrek Personally, I'm enjoying the 17 f/1.2 for interior/rainy weather. I think I'd like either the 40-150 pro or the 14-150 ii for general walk-around/travel. The 14mm or pancake kit lenses are only for extreme portability, the 14 is the most portable and still does decently indoors. I love the 28mm look and it's THE lens that M43 hasn't paid that much attention to.
There was a conversation on Facebook about defraction is removed automatically in M4/3rds. That is why it is not an issue...
I don't see how that's possible. Can you email a link to me on that?
@@RobTrek I am not seeing the post about being removing defraction done automatically: facebook.com/groups/MicroFourNerds/permalink/527303074340004
@@DavidCrooksPhotos There is a setting on the LX100ii that turns diffraction correction on/off. I'll have to test it and see if it makes a difference on raw or if it's only for jpg.
