Martin and Teri lived close to where I grew up up. Actually Martin grew up around the corner from me. She was from a neighboring city that was about 15 mins away after they built the newer highway. Martin did an hbo special from north ridgeville school and she was a guest star. Aired 86 or 87.
@jculver1674 "220, 221, whatever it takes" common t-shirt in several industries. A generator provider in the entertainment industry used it in the 80s & 90s.
A year before this came out, Michael Keaton had his breakout role in Night Shift, Directed by Ron Howard. Where he and Henry Winkler, Fonzi on Happy Days, Play NYC morgue attendants who help a call girl and her friends played by Shelly Long by turning the Morgue into an after hours brothel, and calling themselves Love Brokers, because Pimp is such and ugly work. It's a great comedy worth checking out:)
As an electrician, you have no idea how many times I have said "220, 221 whatever it takes." it used to make people laugh. Not so much anymore. I feel like it's become a forgotten line.
Thanks, Ashleigh! 🚼 The actor who plays 'Joan' is Ann Jillian. I used to love her in a situation comedy called IT'S A LIVING (1980 through 1989). Back then I remember seeing on a newspaper cover that she had breast cancer; she was only in her mid-thirties. So many died of it back then, in my youthful shortsightedness, I figured she didn't survive. This was supported by me not seeing her in any more tv series or movies. But just a few years ago I was researching her and discovered she didn't die, is still alive... and kept working through 2000!
I don't know if you ever saw Gypsy (1962), but Ann Jillian plays Dainty June in that film. She has a fine singing voice, dances well, and has a very sweet moment with Natalie Wood as her sister.
@@paulsuchy6210 Indeed, I have, Paul. 😊 I was going to recommend that to Ashleigh, as well... but I know it's difficult to edit around musicals. I hope she gets to it, someday. 🤞🤞
And unlike her character in this she looks to never be divorced, married almost fifty years, and does charity. (She's Catholic like me but sadly some of us got "judgy" enough about her having only one kid she felt the need to explain her medical history.)
Terri Garr also did an episode of the original Star Trek series. The episode is called: Assignment Earth. She looks so young and like such a little hippie girl.
Teri Garr was the last member of the Young Frankenstein main cast still living, so that's a particular sad marker for me. On a happier note, the kid playing Kenny? Taliesin Jaffe? He actually grew up to be a prolific voice actor and Dungeons & Dragons live player, but even more amusing - he became a goth who constantly dyes his hair different colors, which makes looking back at his role here as the little blond kid particularly funny. He once compared his childhood self to Butters from South Park, and you can see the resemblance.
R.I.P. Teri Garr and Martin Mull Thanks for watching and sharing your reaction. Please add the comedy Johnny Dangerously starring Michael Keaton to a poll.
I love how we radio people, whether we're still in the industry or not, can snap into a flawless copy read like you did with your infomercial joke. It's a skill that never goes away.
He was the most popular daytime host in the 70s and his shows were discussed quite a bit. His talk show was one of the earliest, if not the first, to have audience participation as a part of the program. He was a liberal person and lost his later program on MSNBC for daring to be against the upcoming Iraq War in 2003 (NBC was owned by GE, a big defense contractor). He lived to be 88.
He really created a mess of the Oscars one year too. Ruined the dance number, puked in a tuba, embarrassed Raquel Welch... But he did save everyone from a terrorist and his bomb.
Ashleigh I’m sure you remember that Christopher Lloyd and Martin Mull were in the movie Clue based on the board game in 1985. It’s one of my favorite movies ever.
Kenny is played by Critical Role's own Taliesin Jaffe. I learned this from a mutual friend about an hour before I met the man at AnimeIowa in 2005, and I can tell you that he is just as funny as he is on CR.
Re Critical Role: In the middle of Campaign 2, Sam made a comment about Yasha's (i.e. Ashleigh) woobie, and the delayed reaction "...wow." from Taliesin was quite amusing. 😁
I was only 12 when this movie came out and loved it. What is so funny is that the Young and the Restless characters of Nikki & Victor are STILL on the show in 2024!
Mei noodles are my favorite! That's what you saw expand in the frying pan. He got the noodles wet and dropped them in hot oil and they expand instantly. Follow directions can be dangerous! Worth it though!
FYI: the actress who played Joan was Ann Julian, who mainly did tv series movies. She came to fame via a tv show called "It's a Living" (1980 to 86) & her large bosom. She was a sex symbol & a very sweet lady. Two years after this movie was released, she was diagnosed with breast cancer & had a double masectomy. She used her fame & became a spokesperson for breast cancer awareness. Discovered she started out as a child actress in the 60s. She continued to work until she retired in 2000.

I was a theatre usher from 1980-84. High School. Mr Mom was a huge hit in the summer of 83. Sold-out shows for weeks. A lot of big 70s & 80s are forgotten. "Ruthless People" was a huge hit in the summer of 86. A very funny movie and Danny Devito's best performance. But it's forgotten.
" Who is Phil Donahue"? He was THE greatest daytime talkshow host, way before Oprah and Ellen and the rest!! I absolutely loved watching him with my mom.
Michael Douglas was much more responsible for Ellen and the rest of the entertainment talk show host, but Donahue was FOR SURE responsible for Oprah and the ridiculous amount of shows like hers.
I'm a child of the 80s and watched this many times when it aired on HBO. I was just a kid, but I loved it. It's funny to me that many people today don't realize Michael Keaton started off as a comic actor. This movie and Night Shift are hilarious.
So, there's an explanation for the bathroom walls being so dirty when the kids were taking a bath. Back in the day, they used to sell these bathroom crayons/markers. Kids could write on the tile walls and they were supposed to be easy to clean up, and it was also supposed to make bath time fun. My parents had serious doubts about them, hence why I always wanted some but never got them. You used to find them in catalogs that sold items not necessarily sold in stores and also a lot of novelty items.
7:18 It was not Beverly D'Angelo from Vacation, however the lady who had the umbrella who was talking to Batman about the kids drop off was Cousin eddy's wife from that same Vacation movie as well as from Christmas Vacation.
I was about to say the same thing. It's so ironic she said that, that even tho the person she thought was in it wasn't, the one that WAS in it she missed. 🤣🤣 Like literally 2 seconds before..
Phil Donahue - talk show host - married to Marlo Thomas. He passed away in August, but he wasn't an actor. Teri Garr and Marlo Thomas played the mothers of Rachel and Phoebe on Friends.
If you want to continue to honor her, Teri Garr was also in my late brother David's favorite comedy of all time, a lesser known gem from the late eighties starring her and Richard Dreyfuss called Let It Ride. I would love to see if Ashleigh enjoyed this movie as much as my family and I love it.
Since someone here recommended watching Teri Garr’s appearance in an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series; I would like to recommend her appearance in an episode of M*A*S*H; this series came off of the success of the movie, whom Ashleigh saw a while back. The episode was called “The Sniper”. She appeared as one of the many nurses whom Hawkeye (played by Alan Alda) was romancing while a sniper was firing at the 4077th. It was a great example of how the series could handle that mix of comedy and drama.
I’m so happy!! I freakin love this movie!! It’s such a comfort movie from growing up in the 80s (well I was born in the early 70s, but still was young in the 80s) and it was always on HBO.
My parents had HBO when I was a kid in the 80s, and they recorded so many movies that I’d watch over and over. Mr. Mom and Night Shift (Keaton’s first movie) were two of my favorites!! Both are so quotable!
Teri Garr was one of the sketch players on the Sonny&Cher/ Cher Variety Shows, and as a young lad of 10-12 I loved watching her doing those skits and musical numbers with Cher. They were the two most beautiful woman on TV to my little eyes, and I was so happy when I saw her in Young Frankenstein. “What knockers!”
@Ashleigh You get it classics are timeless greatness has no expiration date. Please continue to show your subs/fans the best in cinema and keep saying it again an again.... there is no age when a film is classic
Been one of my favorite movies for 40 years. My parents divorced when I was born and my Dad had full custody of me and my sister. So this film hit a little different for me.
If you want another movie with a young Christopher Lloyd in it, check out The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, it also stars Peter Weller who was Robocop. 7:15 Yes, that was Beverly D’Angelo from National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. 10:23 Miriam Flynn who played Catherine, Cousin Eddie’s wife in National Lampoon’s vacation movies.
One of my favorite comedies of all time! My friends and family still use the "210... 220, whatever it takes!" line to this day! Would definitely love to see you cover more of Teri Garr's work, her comedy timing was perfection!
You're the first reactor to love this - first one to get it right! Mr. Mom was on cable all the time in the 80s and I always watched it. It's good to know I'm not alone in thinking this is hilarious and adorable. 👨👩👦👦
You think you've never seen Christopher Lloyd with that much hair? It may have been a while, but he did have a fair amount when you watched "Clue" on this channel. He was Professor Plum.
Horizontal hold is like trying to keep your TV picture from looking like a psychedelic funhouse mirror, back in the day, you’d twist a knob to stop your screen from wobbling like it just chugged a six-pack of Zima
OMG! A Teri Garr binge would be amazing. I've said before that my favorite comedy of all time is 1989's "Let it Ride" with her and Richard Dreyfuss. You'll love it!
I love this movie....we watched it on HBO back in the day & my niece who was 5 at the time would say, "Let me tell you about flattle...it makes me hot." We have never let her forget that. The other Teri Garr movie I recommend is "Mom & Dad Save the World." It's a silly little movie where her character, Marge, is kidnapped with her husband & taken to a planet of idiots. It also has Jon Lovitz (A League of Their Own), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride), Eric Idle (Monty Python) & Jeffrey Jones (Ferris Bueller's Day Off). Also been watching "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor...my favorite of the movies they did together. It's a comedy thriller.
The actress who played Marla Hooch is named Megan Cavanagh. A League of Their Own, which came out in 1992, was her first movie. Mr. Mom came out in the 80's.

Michael Keaton and Christopher Lloyd would team up again in the underrated 1989 comedy The Dream Team which is also worth a look.
'I hate paisley.'
😂😅
"The Dream Team" is one of my personal favorites! 😂
@@user-EricWatson55
It's great to be young and insane.
Martin and Teri lived close to where I grew up up. Actually Martin grew up around the corner from me. She was from a neighboring city that was about 15 mins away after they built the newer highway.
Martin did an hbo special from north ridgeville school and she was a guest star. Aired 86 or 87.
Another vote for the Dream Team. such a funny movie.
“220, 221, whatever it takes” is still funny to this day.
"Beer?" "It's 9 O'clock in the morning!" "Scotch?"
So many quotable lines
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
@jculver1674 "220, 221, whatever it takes" common t-shirt in several industries. A generator provider in the entertainment industry used it in the 80s & 90s.
There is one movie that stars Michael Keaton that i think you will like. It's called "Multiplicity".
Agreed. I've always said this.. I love 'Multiplicity'.. Ash would definitely love it..
This movie seems like it will deteriorate into Dumbness but, no, introduces The One Dummy Copy and then sharpens back up.
Any movie written or directed by Harold Ramis is a must watch.
She touched my pepe, Steve.
1000%. I need to revisit these movies
Teri Garr was beautiful in this movie. R.I.P.
Such an expressive face, too. She has classically beautiful lines and features, but soooo expressive, too.
That supermarket cashier played Mr. Rooney's secretary in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
And unforgettable in Planes, Trains, And Automobiles.
Edie McClurg. She was a John Hughes regular.
She’ll always be Mrs Poole to me
@@russellh.3150 McClurg: May I see you rental agreement... Martin: I threw it away McClurg: Oh Boy... Martin: Oh Boy What... LOL you know the rest 😆
Eddie was also in the original "Carrie"
A year before this came out, Michael Keaton had his breakout role in Night Shift, Directed by Ron Howard. Where he and Henry Winkler, Fonzi on Happy Days, Play NYC morgue attendants who help a call girl and her friends played
by Shelly Long by turning the Morgue into an after hours brothel, and calling themselves Love Brokers, because Pimp is such and ugly work. It's a great comedy worth checking out:)
Oh yes!! Night Shift is a favorite of mine. I’d love for Ashleigh to see it too 🧡🖤🧡
@ me too. I think she’d dig it:)
Love brokers!!!!!!
One of Ron Howard's first director gigs. I remember an interview with him talking about the rather awkward process of "interviewing" boobs.
I remember being a kid and watching this on HBO. It was just a good, clean movie without any real tension. I loved it.
Sooo that was not Beverly D’Angelo from Vacation in the car outside the school, BUT Annette did play Cousin Catherine (Eddie’s wife) in that!!
As an electrician, you have no idea how many times I have said "220, 221 whatever it takes." it used to make people laugh. Not so much anymore. I feel like it's become a forgotten line.
Teri Garr was just so adorable! Cute as a button! I loved her in everything I saw her in. She’ll be missed.
But just a few years ago I was researching her and discovered she didn't die, is still alive... and kept working through 2000!
so hot!
I loved her in "Jennifer slept here"
I don't know if you ever saw Gypsy (1962), but Ann Jillian plays Dainty June in that film.
Oh yeah I remember that one. It was so out of the ordinary. I honestly thought there was going to be a spinoff series but it just never happened..
I didn’t know that!
This is an underrated gem, thanks for the reaction. Terri Garr is also in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a great film.
Mr. Mom was one of my favorites as a kid and I still love it!
The newest episode of Critical Roll was literally right next to this for me.
He gave up his woobie for a possessed revolver?
@@karlaegley8210 Ah, algorithmic serendipity, gotta love it.
and his "woobie" has entered geek speak as well, with a whole series on TV Tropes.
These 80s comedies had a lot of heart
R.I.P. Teri Garr and Martin Mull
Thanks for watching and sharing your reaction. Please add the comedy Johnny Dangerously starring Michael Keaton to a poll.
"I wanna sleep... Dangerously."
Hugely under-appreciated movie!!! Love it and must watch
"And knock down that farging wall!"
Terri Gar and Dee Wallace were our moms in the 80's. I adore her in Tootsie and she was hilarious on Friends as Phoebe's mom. ❤
I love how we radio people, whether we're still in the industry or not, can snap into a flawless copy read like you did with your infomercial joke. It's a skill that never goes away.

Phil Donahue was a talk show host in the sixties and seventies and early eighties.. He died earlier in the year.
He was essentially the original Oprah.
Yep, I thought the same thing. I ❤ Clue!!
@ Right? It’s a real 80’s comedy classic as far as I’m concerned especially with Tim Curry as Wadsworth. Talk about a laugh out loud riot! 😂🤣
Yes
The wife and I still joke with, “220, 221…whatever it takes.”
Kenny is played by Critical Role's own Taliesin Jaffe. I learned this from a mutual friend about an hour before I met the man at AnimeIowa in 2005, and I can tell you that he is just as funny as he is on CR.
Ahh a person of culture I see
@@holdenb.huffman4042 nah, just a neo maxi zoom dweebie with a mutual friend. Hell, I'm only one generation off the farm.

Re Critical Role: In the middle of Campaign 2, Sam made a comment about Yasha's (i.e. Ashleigh) woobie, and the delayed reaction "...wow." from Taliesin was quite amusing. 😁
@ omg what episode was that? I don’t remember that lmao
I was only 12 when this movie came out and loved it. What is so funny is that the Young and the Restless characters of Nikki & Victor are STILL on the show in 2024!
…Are they still together!? I haven’t watched in literal degases!!
Mei noodles are my favorite! That's what you saw expand in the frying pan. He got the noodles wet and dropped them in hot oil and they expand instantly. Follow directions can be dangerous! Worth it though!
I've been bummed since I heard of the passing of Teri Garr. She was a delight. A lifelong crush, lifelong respect.
Me, too. Ever since I saw her in Tootsie, I thought she was adorable. I also love her Letterman appearances.
"Who spilled the beans?" XD That wass good timing, well played
FYI: the actress who played Joan was Ann Julian, who mainly did tv series movies. She came to fame via a tv show called "It's a Living" (1980 to 86) & her large bosom. She was a sex symbol & a very sweet lady. Two years after this movie was released, she was diagnosed with breast cancer & had a double masectomy. She used her fame & became a spokesperson for breast cancer awareness. Discovered she started out as a child actress in the 60s. She continued to work until she retired in 2000.
She was also in 1961's "Gypsy" as the younger daughter Dainty June. With Natalie Wood and the great Rosalind Russel.
Ask any Gen-Xer and they'll tell you ... this is pure afternoon cable TV comfort food. I couldn't even begin to guess how many times I've seen it.
"Wanna beer?"
"It's 7 o'clock in the morning."
" ... Scotch?"
Oh & you saw her as Richard Dreyfuss' wife in "Closee Encounters of the Third Kind." And "Rocky III" had Mr T. in it...he's the one with a mohawk. Mr. T is best known for his role as B.A. Baracus on the original "A-Team" tv series. His character said, "I pity the fool"
I loved Phil Donahue., rip
@@lisaclark1181 Michael Douglas? Actor, son of Kirk Douglas?
@@w1975b No, a completely different guy. He was actually known as Mike Douglas.

If you liked the Chippendale dancers you really need to see 'The Full Monty'. It's a British film but so good. You might even recognize a few faces.
With subtitles ON.
Yes! Excellent film and lots of fun.
Terri Garr will be missed but we have all her great movies to watch!
Loved Terri Garr! She was great in Tootsie also!
How did I forget that movie existed?
@@ApesAmongUs We all do. It's just not as celebrated as it should be.
As great as the show was i always found it bizarre that it ran for eleven years while the war it was set in barely lasted four...
Phil Donahue is the man who practically invented the talk show format.. He also was the one who gave Oprah Winfrey her start.
I’m so happy!! I freakin love this movie!! It’s such a comfort movie from growing up in the 80s (well I was born in the early 70s, but still was young in the 80s) and it was always on HBO.
